Trying to get to my 10 posts :goodvibes

My last cruise on the first night we all got sick because the ship was rocking pretty bad. I bought some bands and we took motion sick pills the rest of the cruise. This time I plan to use the bands and am hoping to not need the pills if I can avoid it as they make me tired.

What other things do you guys do to help with the motion sickness? :cheer2:

I have a filled prescription for the sea sickness patch and will bring them just in case. we also use the sea bands and they work great I think :)

We were on the cruise in Dec. 2007 and had 20-30ft waves and the crew said it was worse in dec. than it was on the EB TA that same year. We did not get sick (woozie yes, but not sick) then so I think we will be ok.

I also drink gingerale every night at dinner (usually with cherry in it) and that helps me too. Ginger will help settle your stomach and is free at meals but costs from room service or the bars as it is not available on deck 9.

We heard many good things about Princess, so we had high expectations. Our expectations were met.

Lunch and dinner in the main dining rooms were very, very good. It was the best among the cruise lines we have tried.

Some of the things we liked:

  • Very smooth embarkation.
  • Cabins are ready upon boarding (we boarded at 11:50 and went to our cabin to drop off our bags).
  • A working refrigerator.
  • Warm cookies served in the afternoon (servers roam with carts around the pool deck and atrium).
  • Nice library (12 or so floor-to-ceiling bookcases).
  • Lots of quiet seating areas around the ship.
  • Daily afternoon tea (open to all at no charge).
  • Generous portions. If you ordered lobster tail, they brought you three, and later brought around another plate with more.
  • A self-serve kiosk next to the front desk. Just swipe your room card to get a copy of your stateroom account without standing in line. Brilliant!
  • Automatic enrollment in the Captains Circle loyalty program. On day 5 or 6, we received a welcome packet including Captains Circle cards with our names and member numbers.
  • On debarkation day you can go to breakfast then return to your cabin and relax until your debarkation time.
  • Very smooth debarkation.

Woody

sounds like you had a good experience. Were there many children? Do they have things for kids?

Happy Valentine's Day:love:
Just wanted to say hi and thank you to everyone for all the wonderful information on these boards. I have to admit I've been lurking for a while and it's been really fantastic to see how warm everyone is - we have 2 boys, age 7 and 3, and they make it rather difficult to do anything on the computer! The boys are good travellers and veteran cruisers, but this will be our first Disney cruise, so I don't think I've ever done so much planning - and just when I think I've got a handle on things, you guys amaze me with your organization and detail and I go into panic mode again :scared1: But really, thank you all so much!

Thank you very much for the info. I'll go to my doctor and get a prescription for the patch just so I have it. But will try to make do with the bands and ginger ale...I never thought of adding cherry to it.

just fyi, some people have adverse reactions to the patch - it actually makes them super nauseous and feverish. DBIL tried the patch on a Panama cruise and he was one of the "lucky" ones. So ask your doctor about it when you pick up the rx.

All we have ever used is sea bands. My oldest DD gets motion sickness really bad and as long as she had these on she was o.k.

Hello Everyone

I found this thread yesterday and while I've only made it to page 71 thought I'd say hi.

My aunt and I will be going on this cruise and we are very excited about it. I've done one Disney cruise before but have never been to Europe. I look forward to getting to know all of you :cool1:

Welcome! A visit to London 30 years ago was my only trip across the pond, so I'm very excited to be going back.

.
Sounds good! :yay:
.
In 2001 we used DVC points for four nights at the Royal Garden Inn (I think that's the name) on the edge of Kensington Gardens right near Kensington Palace--Diana's favorite. Lovely! And convenient.
feet when I, tough Yank that I am, had wrangled it for miles?--nope!

Jan, we found a different (and better!) B&B and the bonus money was reallocated into theater tickets. :thumbsup2

Was just on the phone with Monica and she told me about your post...we just booked Saturday afternoon tea at the Royal Garden Hotel. :) They have been refurbishing the entire hotel (will still be going on into next year yet) and the Park Terrace Restaurant just completes renovation a couple of weeks before we get there.

My family and I decided to book the transatlantic cruise today.

I use the patch too...only issue w/ this is that after day 3 I usually start getting double vision. Will keep using them tho as I can get motion sickness watching :happytv:

Do you do the Ginger lozenges, or chew ginger? I've heard that's good too (haven't tried that myself)

Thanks for the welcome, Ibouncetoo. Btw, I love your tagline - I can't be buying anymore either. I guess it does make sense to put all the stuff to work, doesn't it :rotfl:

I've been reading about the toboggan/sledge rides in Madeira - it sounds like it might be fun for the kids, but it almost seems like the 'intimidate the tourist' factor is really high too. Do you think it is worth the hassling?

Also, since we're in Madeira on a Sunday, Blandy's is not open except of group reservations. Were people planning to do that?

Thank you!

I believe some people are (not me tho). 1 thing to keep in mind...since it is Sunday they close at 1pm.

WELCOME (btw)!!:dance3:

So today I send my DD (8) to school with her Valentine's for her class. Each kid was getting a large Hersey bar with a personalized wrapper. Our family LOVES Disney and I never think twice using anything Disney for them. Well apparently the kids in DD's class laughed at them and said that they were for babies...:sad2:

Here is what they looked like. I thought they were cute.

3rdGradeValentine.png

They did say they liked the large chocolate bar. :sad2: They should, they were 4.5oz chocolate bars! DH said if they did not like them they should have given back the chocolate!

Oh well, I just figured I would share my sad story with fellow Disney fans.

Since when did 3rd graders become to cool for everything?!?!?!?!? :confused3
.
So sorry!
.
I think they are adorable and would have loved one. I agree that if they are too babyish, the kids should have given them back.
.
Kids are weird. Disney fans of all ages are mature enough to not judge by appearances.

 to your DD

I think that is where we ate a couple meals. Hard to imagine it needing renovation, it was beautiful. We felt positively pampered and when Tom's brother stopped by to walk with us to a nearby Italian dinner for a family meal he refused the invitation to come up to view our room, "I've seen enough" he said dejectedly.

I hope you have a great London time!

OK

I am caught up :yay:

(for now)

BUT

I do not understand the repreated references to cougars. :confused3 Can someone fill me in?

:confused3 Dumb, newbie question......what do you mean by the "intimadate the tourist"? We were planing on doing it with 8 yr DS, maybe we should reconsider?!?

Thanks

:welcome:ttpai & DisneyHeather.

Motion Sickness: I travel with SeaBands and Bonine in my carry-on. But all I've ever done with them is give Bonine to other passengers. Holland America always has crystallized ginger on a serving cart as you exit the dining room after dinner. I gave up on it after a couple of nights because it was so strong. I've had a few queasy moments in really rough seas--but always got through them unaided.
