Can you purchase 3d glasses somewhere to wear on rides/shows? I thought about it last time (5 years ago) and I think it’d be even better to do now.
I saw dolby 3d glasses on Amazon but are they the right ones?
(is this the right thread to ask this?)

Why? The glasses they provide are used then cleaned.
Well not just for Dis. but some movies too. I really don't trust that they are all cleaned really well. Just like I don't trust that blankets on airplanes are cleaned and not just folded and stuffed back in plastic.
Also, they wouldn't get scratched if I had my own.

We had a local theater that charged $1 to buy the glasses for 3D movies several years back. BUT... you could then bring them back with you and not have to pay extra for 3D movies after buying the initial pair. Those worked for theatrical 3D movies but, as I understand it, there are several different methods for 3D films (aside from the original 1950s red and blue lenses).

For example, a few years back when 3D TVs were all the rage, the glasses themselves actually had an electronic component to them as well (although nothing that advanced is used in theme park 3D glasses). So I'm not sure about whether 3D movies and rides at WDW utilize the same 3D technology that is used in your local theater for 3D movie releases.

I'm sure if standard 3D glasses are sold on Amazon or somewhere, they probably work at the theater (and maybe at WDW too, but I guess you'd have to test them out to see for sure).

Overkill much. Lol

From a "worried about cleanliness" standpoint...perhaps.

From a fit, comfort and clarity standpoint notsomuch. I have several pairs of 3D glasses at home that fit much better than any of the ones at Disney attractions and mine aren't scratched to heck. It might not be a bad idea to bring those in an eyeglass case to wear if they would work.

I did notice that the last time I rode FoP, the glasses were scratched and uncomfortable. So I could totally see bringing your own for these reasons!

Let us know if you try and how it turns out. My sister cannot wear the 3D glasses they hand out at the parks/movie theaters/etc... over her eyeglasses very well. She has tried, but they slip off her little nose and she usually has to do without. I have seen some clip on 3D glasses and thought about giving those a try so she can get the full affects of the shows. I think her scores would be higher on TSM.

This was at Universal so I can't 100% confirm what Disney does, but when I worked at Shrek 4-D I can confirm that every single pair of glasses was cleaned and sanitized. We would put them out, the guests would return them, we would rerack them, send them through a modified industrial dishwasher, and them but them back out for guests. Now, I couldn't guarantee that right before you picked up your glasses that a million kids with germy hands didn't touch every pair of glasses before picking theirs, but at the very least they were clean when we put them out. I remember talking to someone at It's Tough To Be A Bug and it sounded like they had a similar system.

this idea assumes that all the rides use the same 3-D technology. I'm not sure if that is correct.

I too have wondered if the ones on Amazon would work. The one size fits all provided at attractions do not fit my daughter, and she misses out on the 3D effects. There are child sized pairs on Amazon that I've thought of buying. If anyone has actually bought some, what brand worked best for you?

I was thinking about this before our trip last weekend but didn't buy anything. I did notice whenever we got on a ride that required glasses that a CM was the only person touching the glasses, no guest. I felt better about using them.

Glasses used for Flight of Passage are definitely different than the traditional 3D glasses used for things like Philharmagic.
If cleanliness is your concern, simply bring a small package of wipes and sanitize before wearing.
good idea, And that is what I was wondering -- if they are different ..
But I still like the no scratches thing. ☺️

That's neat to know. thank you.

I think the mismatch between my glasses and the 3D glasses aggravates motion sickness. I have always assumed that if I could get a pair to better fit (love the clip-ons idea by a PP) then I would better enjoy those 3D experiences. I would aboslutely buy my own if they worked on all rides, but hearing that different rides are using different technology kills the idea. I might carry one pair of extra glasses around, but not different ones for different rides :crazy2:
