39 cent stamps in January.

Ya know, I've got no problem with the occasional raise in postage,
but why can't they just make it 40c??
I believe we're still the cheapest in the world.
I have no complaints.
But, thanks for heads-up PD, my DH and I were just wondering
yesterday if the rumors were true.

so what is going to happen when people only use computers for mail? will prices of stamps keep going up?? :confused3 I mean we can pay bills, do banking, shop, send cards and emails, all on the internet..

Actually the Postal rate Commission will not let us just make it a 'round' number for convenience. They say it must be reflective of what we think it will take to meet costs. We've tried it before, no go.:) Last time, we tried to say that we'd make it .40 and we wouldn't go up for three years. They said no of course, but then again, at the time of the next rate change, it will have been 3.5 years anyway!;)

With the cost of U.S. postage stamps going up it's the main reason I pay all my bills online. Heck, I'm not giving my money to the U.S. Postal Service.

I'm happy the price increase will occur after Christmas.

I am bummed because they just came out with all of the cute Disney stamps this summer and the Muppets stamps this week.

I read the title and thought stamps were going down, lol. I thought they were currently .47 - that is how often I use stamps. I bet a book of stamps lasts me nearly a year. They must be losing business because of all the online banking being done.

ouch, I mail alot of greeting cards so that will hurt a little. I know it doesn't seem like a lot, but when you buy a couple books a month it adds up! I'm not surprised, with the way gas in going up, I think most things will start to take a jump in price.

Me, too! I can't use them up before the price changes - then I buy the "H" or "K" (or whatever letter we're on now) to make up the difference, and now I can't remember what letter goes with which stamp. I have 34 cents ones, 33 cents ones, plus some mysterious letter ones of unknown value, and the other day I found a partial book of 25 cent ones! Guess I'll save those 'till it goes up to 50 cents :teeth:

I'm also glad they're waiting until after Christmas :goodvibes I send LOTS of Christmas cards.

I was just commenting the other day that I can't believe how cheap our postage still is. I truly think it is a bargain, all things considered. I don't like paying more for things, but I would rather only pay 2 cents more than 25 cents more.

My grandfather delivers all his bills to the cable company, telephone company, etc. in order to save the postage. I was just joking to my husband the other week that it probably costs him more to drive it there than to pop it in the mail with the current cost of gas.

The postal service is the only business I know that raises prices when customers fall off...

I say open it up to competition and let's see what it really costs.

With the horrible service they provide, the postal service needs to cut rates in half instead of raising them over and over. I have never been a big fan of online bill paying, but with the postal service becoming less and less reliable I am going to take a serious look at it.

Unreal.

I find that I have great postal service -timely delivery to my home of mail, and pleasant staff at my local post office. My mailman holds packages for me when I tell him I'll be out of town, too!!!! I know lots of people hate the post office, but I'm a fan, and I think it's still pretty cheap.

I do think on-line bill paying, as well as drafts from checking accounts, are the "wave of the future." I notice I use far fewer stamps now than I have in the past.
