Is anyone else freaking out :scared1: that the Disney full is in only 38 days??? Since my half marathon on Nov 9th I have totally slacked :rolleyes1 and haven't done anything longer than 10 miles since then. I am freaking out since I have missed a 13 miler a 15 miler and 16 miler and I have 18 scheduled for Saturday. After my half marathon I dropped out of the marathon training program (due to no money to continue) and then with vacation and Thankgiving and holiday decorating I have totally slacked. What is the best way to get my butt in gear and get back on track so that I don't get DNF for my first full marathon.

I'm with you on the totally freaking out, this will be my first marathon and I'm really nervous too.

I'd say the best way to get back on track is to just do it. I wouldn't try 18 this weekend (or would plan to walk part of it) but would compromise the distance a bit so you don't get hurt-- maybe to 13-14 this week then if you feel ok try a longer distance next week. Good luck. :wizard:

Always trust quality of miles vs quantity. You still have several weeks to slowly ramp up. You don't have to have a 20 miler to do a full.

Breathe in through nose and out through mouth! Mr Miaggi from Karate Kid. Does wonders :thumbsup2

As Robert says - but do not attempt the Crane move while running, you will fall down.:lmao:

Seriouosly, I have run over 250 races ranging from 5 K to the goofy and get nervous prior to each and every one. Allow yourself to get nervous and use the energy positively, just do not allow the nerves to get in the way. Get out over the next 3 weeks and put in the time, the miles will come with it. I always find this helps my confidence. Anyway, relax and enjoy the ride.

Thanks everyone. I needed the reassurance. I did 5.5 miles on the TM this evening and as usual the more miles I get done the better my legs feel. Its just hard to get started.

Wow Mike that is alot of races you have done - are you telling me the nervousness will never go away? I feel dumb when I get nervous of a silly little local 5k and I have done over 10 5k's (heck I would get nervous before going out on my long runs on Saturday mornings with my marathon training group) I was hoping it would go away after time - guess I should figure out how to use it for good instead of making me sick!! LOL

I think my anticipation and nervousness is all backwards. I am not so worried about being able to finish (but I am not trying to win the race either). I am more nervous about the meet and greet than anything. Disney people are the greatest but I have always had self-esteem issues that will make me feel unworthy of the acceptance of my peers.

I guess we all have something to try to work past.

I am doing the 1/2 and I am freaked out!! :scared1: In less than a year I've done a couple of 5K's, a 10K and a 15K and finished all right where I thought I would but that's not helping me right now. Glad to know I am not the only one!

I'm telling you all right now, the race is in you. You will succeed, as there is no failure in Team WISH.

I am now officially lighting a fire under your okole's (rear ends). Get your workouts in, get some sweat equity. There's a month to go, there is time for you to work out, just don't keep putting it off.

Now lace 'em up, and get out on the road! That's an order.

Don't make me get out my can of whoopass.

Hey Bubba,

I sent you a private message on 12/1. Did you get it? Just checking in with you for Thursday. Mahalo.

Now, that's the ticket TnT (by the way is that for Team in Training?).:worship: See you have the ability just get out and do it! Yes, if you are human, you will feel nervous before each event. The key is in how you channel the nervousness. I like to think of it as I am alive and doing something I love to do with a great group (I always say that the running community, as a whole, is nothing but nice people) of people with similar goals. The times I have bad races is when I do not allow myself to focus on this - so I don't do that anymore. Be mindful and let it go, you will enjoy the nervousness and embrace the silliness that comes with it. Goofy is what Goofy does.

mkymsehi, I like your thought process. By the way, I always wanted to ask, what is the proper translation of Mahalo?

Thanks Mike - and no my name isn't for Team in Training (I think that is what you are refering to) it actually is from when me and my sister had a party supply side business - her name begins with a T also so it was TnTs Party (kinda like dynamite!! LOL) I just never changed it and it kinda stuck.

Thanks Jeff for lighting a fire under my okole!! Aloha!!

I'm doing the Half and I am way nervous! It's my first. I've been getting my Long walk/run on the weekend, but the mid-week I'm struggling with. I've got one month left...time to get moving!

We can do it!!!

Stacie

Well I could tell I was slacking so I am joining a new Galloway Group Saturday. We are doing 8 miles so hopefully that will helpe keep me on track for the half. This one is working towards the Breast Cancer half in Feb so it's not perfect for me but I think it will keep me moving!

Good job getting out and facing it! I love the encouragement! I am not where I'd expected myself to be so I'll tag onto the booty kickin' going on here and just get out and do it!

You guys are awesome, and will do well. I'm the slacker here. I'm running the full and have yet to get my miles in. I did get out and run in the freezing cold tonight. However I got it done, it was only a mile and a half but I did something.

I mentally and physically will finish the full, however i will probably regret it the next day :-)
oh and yes I'm very nervous...

 Hi sweetie! I can't wait to see you again! You'll do fine! I know you can walk it and still be ahead of me.

I've lost a month of half-marathon training due to a concussion just before Halloween. Running seemed to make my symptoms worse, so I just stopped training. I have thought I should cancel my trip, but I am just not ready to give up on the 2009 WDW half marathon dream yet!

I'm feeling much better, but am not sure I'll be able to handle the training or get the miles in at this point. I'll defer till 2010 if I have to, but it is sort of weirdly encouraging that I'm not the only one who has fallen behind in the training this year. Thanks to everyone who has posted on this thread so far. :grouphug:

corinnak - I feel for you. I have had a hard time too. I was training really well, getting into some of the bigger runs, starting to feel really good... then wham! I was struck with Sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss and along with it, severe vertigo. I couldn't move for solid week without my world spinning around and getting sick. It took six weeks before I could train again.

In the end, the hearing in my right ear is gone for good, big bummer. The good thing is the vertigo is gone too. Yea! Thank goodness. That was the sickest I have ever been in my life.

Since then I have been building up each week. It's been tough but am starting to get back on track. And then my left leg started randomly swelling up. Got in to see the orthopedic surgeon and there is an 80% chance that I have a torn meniscus. That stinks.

I am able to run and walk, so I will be attempting Goofy. I have just decided that I am there for the weekend with two of my friends. I will do what I can and enjoy! If I end up having to walk some or all of either race, I'll be okay.

This is not what I wanted for this race. Not what I set out to do. But life threw me a couple of curve balls. What can you do? I'm still going to have a blast!

Hang in there!
