You will need to "Report" the thread and ask for it to be closed. It is up to the discretion of the moderator for that board whether it will be closed or not. The easiest thing to do is to "unwatch" the thread and don't go back to it again.

as someone that also started a thread that people started attacking me for i can tell you that you CAN'T get it deleted.
moderators and administrators alike told me that if i'm being attacked i should just walk away from the thread instead of defend myself which i think is ridiculous because then people are just talking about me without me being able to defend myself.
i was also told its not MY thread so anyone can say whatever they want.
