Hey y'all! My DH has said for several years now (back when I started planning for his 30th birthday - he's 32 now) that he was going to send me and my friends "away" from my 30th birthday. He's still saying it several years later (and after a HUGE surprise party for his 30th). I talked to him a couple of weeks ago about making it more of a "family" type trip instead of just a "girls" trip.
Ideally, we'd rent a house/condo somewhere with family friends and just hang out for a long weekend. Altogether there would probably be about 25 adults and five kids (if everyone were coming - chances are pretty good that about 95% will show). I'd like something that's ideally 5 - 6 hours driving distance from our house (Hilton Head Island, SC) so we can bring food and stuff to help keep the costs down.
Here are what I was thinking and some of my thoughts - I'd love feedback on these suggestions or new suggestions:
*Beach in NC to see the wild horses - love the beach but live 15 minutes from the beach - should we just have people come to our house then????
*Disney - would LOVE to go as we'll probably still have our APs at this point but this would/could be an expensive trip??
*Somewhere in the mountains - someone I talked to suggested Gatlinburg. We drive through the mountains on the way to MI and I think it's beautiful
*Disney cruise - Love Disney but terrified of being on a boat and not being able to get off....
Ideally, I'd like something that somehow everyone can reserve/pay for themselves so nothing's going to fall back on DH and myself if possible. I'd also like something that's not a ton of money - don't want to stress about how we're going to pay for everything when we're supposed to be having fun.
Now I've got two years (I'll turn 28 in December) until I need to worry about this, but wanted to send something like a "save the date" card with our Christmas cards so people would have the dates and can start saving money and making plans if they need/want to. Since my birthday's in December, we'll probably actually celebrate at another time of year (DS5 is in school this year and in two years both my boys will be in school so we'd have to try and work around that).
Any suggestions or am I crazy trying to do something like this??? I've mentioned it to a couple of friends and they're all for it with their families.
TIA for any advice, suggestions, anything to help me out and get the ball rolling!
