300 loop or 1600/1700?

I'm finally ready to book for the first week of September and I'm wondering where I want to stay.

We are 2 adults with a dog. We'll be taking the boat to the MK but driving to the other parks - early am, back for the afternoons, then out again for a few hours at night. Most meals in the camper; maybe an occasional trip to the pool.

I would like to be near the dog park, but don't want to be right near water (see the snakes and alligators thread). It's so hard to tell from the map where the sites close to the water are. Also, do you get to choose your loop or if we reserve a full hook up could we end up in any of the 4 loops?

I know it's a pretty slow time of year to go, but I want to get my reservations before the rumored ticket price increase.

Any input would be appreciated.

1600/1700 loops are about a 10 minute walk to the dog park. The 300 loop is less then 5. I prefer the 300 loop and while you hear the boat whisles they are just white noise. There is a canal behind the loop with a dog walk that wraps all the way around to the dog park area. I like to take the pups that way to the park and just follow the loop road home.

How close is the canal to the sites? I don't want to camp near the water.

If you are in the 1600/1700 area, do you just walk on the road to get to the dog park? I have seen posts about a dog walk, but no information about where it is and how you get to it from different loops.

The Canal is only at the back of only one section of the loop. That area the water is probably 150-200 feet back from those sites. The inside of the 300 loop and the rest of the outside of the loop is not near any water other then storm water controls.

From the 1600/1700 loop there is a walk, its again following a canal which will take you to the main loop road near the 1500 loop, then you have to walk down to the park.

You can't actually choose your site though right? If I made a reservation for a preferred with a dog, I would get the 300 loop but then I would have to take the site that they assign me?

Thanks and sorry for all the nit-picky questions.

In my experience, if you are assigned a site and not happy with it, you can change. That's assuming another site is available.

In 300 none of the sites are to close to the canal. 1600 most sites are not on the canal but a few are. 1700 no sites are on the canal. With us and our pup we like 300 best.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm going to reserve the preferred loop and request to not be near the canal. In the September heat, I would rather not have a walk to get to the dog park.

Now if they would just start a campfire program where you could bring your dog...
