Hi DIS friends! Happy Friday! Its a little bit sad since its the last Friday of summer vacation but oh well. Before I start our first full day, Ive got an update on my March trip. Because of the school schedule, I mentioned how I wont be able to go when we origally planned. Dad, Mom, and Emma are still going to go then but Ill be going later. Dad called DVC yesterday to see what was available and surprisingly he said pretty much all of the DVC resorts were still available. He told me to make a list of my first choices. My goal is to stay at all of the DVC resorts, so my options were Bay Lake Tower, Old Key West, or the Boardwalk. Well, I guess the Treehouse Villas too but thats not really one of my preferences. So which one will it be? Im sure if youve read my last couple TRs you will probably be able to guess
OLD KEY WEST!!!
YAY!!! So Ill be spending my spring break there! I can celebrate my birthday a couple weeks late and having a new job.
Now I just have to try and convince my sister to come along with me. Normally Dad would be more than willing to but since hell have just been there a couple weeks prior I think hes going to skip out on this one. Hopefully someone will come with me. Id rather have a buddy than do a solo trip (as interesting as that could be
). Any takers? Haha Tinkgurl, now you are going to have to tell me all about Old Key West! Im excited!
Now onto the update

I suppose I should start off by mentioning we debated going to Hollywood Studios that morning since they had EMH and doing the MK the following morning since that was when they had EMH. We ultimately decided to switch the plan and stick with visiting the Magic Kingdom on our first morning (its usually tradition anyway!). As Dad told us before we left EMH looks good on paper, but two mornings in a row might be a little much. So the Magic Kingdom it was!
We woke up around 7:30ish to get to the park for opening at 9. When I got out of bed I had to look out the window. Nothing like seeing the resort first thing in the morning, especially on the first full day. Our view wasnt the best, but oh well. Good morning, Saratoga Springs!
Good morning, little lizard!
We quickly ate our breakfast before heading out to our bus stop. Such a great location having it right across the street. I also had to take a picture of the area near our building because it was so pretty. I love all the fountains on the grounds.
Notice it was pretty overcast that morning. I was hoping that didnt mean rain was in the area. After a few minutes a bus showed up and we were on our way! Congress Park is the 4th stop within SSR so we had to stop at The Springs last. There was an announcement that said if you were heading to the Treehouse Villas you had to get off there and transfer to another bus. All trip long I couldnt help but think that must be a pain in the you-know-what if you are staying at the Treehouse Villas. Having to go ALL the way through SSR and then transferring?! Kind of annoying just a heads-up though for anyone interested in staying there.
As we got closer to the Magic Kingdom it was getting darker and there were a few drops of rain. Great, just what we wanted on our first morning. Right around the Contemporary it actually started raining pretty hard. I wasnt going to let that ruin our day though. It was still our first morning and even though its better when the sun is shining you cant help but get excited when you see the monorails/boats, the MK entrance gate, and all the activity around there. And then theres the music they play as you are pulling into the bus stations. I love that Mickey Mouse March, you know with the drum roll and all. Just an FYI, that song is on iTunes if you ever want to pretend youre on a bus to the Magic Kingdom.
Fortunately for us by the time we got off the bus the rain had stopped. YAY! It was still cloudy but hey, Id rather have cloudy than rain. We went through bag check and right through the turnstiles into the courtyard to wait for official opening. I was surprised, it wasnt all that crowded. Granted there were more people there than in April when Dad and I did 7:00 am EMH but still not bad at all.
Because of the rain there were CMs working hard to remove all the water up on the train station for the welcome show.
Before long they started making the announcements to move to the center of the Mickey floral because the Welcome Show would be beginning soon. A couple minutes before it started we called Dad. Before we left he said he wanted us to call him so he could listen to the music. Hehe We heard the chimes and we knew the show was about to begin. I really dont know what it is about that show that gets me kind of misty-eyed. I know there are a couple of you out there who said you have never done rope drop before but are hoping to see it. Seriously, when you do you will wonder why you didnt do it sooner. It is so cheerful, so peppy, and so Disney. GREAT way to start off the morning! And come on, how can you not help but get a little choked up when the man says, Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, WELCOME to the Magic Kingdom!
Our greeter for the morning was Scoop Sanderson. I forget his exact title but I think he is a Main Street journalist.
I love how they have all the different Main Street citizens open the park. I think hes the third one weve had, along with the mayor and first lady. He soon had his friends come out to help welcome their new friends. Good morning, good morning!
If you listen closely at the end of the video you can hear Claire telling Emma to check to make sure Dad was still on the phone.

If the whole teaching thing doesn't work out I want to become one of those dancers. hahaha
Pretty soon it was Casey Jr. comin down the track with Mickey and a whole host of characters!

With the help of the family of the day we counted down to open the park. Time to head down Main Street!
I love how all the Main Street CMs come out and wave to everyone. How fun must that be for them to do every morning? And then we got our first glimpse of Cinderella Castle. Home at last!
From Emma's perspective...
I also spotted Tiana and Naveen heading toward Adventureland. Awwww.
As is the usual plan we first headed to Tomorrowland for Space Mountain! As we got closer to the ride it appeared that a lot of people were walking away and there was no time up on the board. Yup, it was experiencing technical difficulties. BOO! We figured wed go over to do Buzz Lightyear instead and then come back.
I pretty much rocked on Buzz. The score to prove it I believe that gave me the rank of Planetary Pilot.
OK maybe not as good as some people but good by my standards.
I noticed toward the end of the ride Emma pulled out her camera. You should know that Emma usually doesnt do all that well on Buzz Lightyear. Well, she mustve hit one of the big targets because she ended up with over 100,000! Guess she had to take a picture to document that. Haha
After defeating Zurg we went back to Space Mountain but it was still broken down. We ended up getting fastpasses. But I guess it would be more appropriate to say we TRIED to get fastpasses. We experienced something that has never happened before. I went up to the machine to get our fastpasses, put Claires ticket in, and nothing happened. It didnt spit out a fastpass but even worse, her ticket didnt come back out either! What the heck?! Its not like Ive never gotten fastpasses before, I know how to do it. Luckily there were two CMs standing there to help us out so they just pushed a button on the back to retrieve the ticket. Still no FP though. I tried Emmas ticket and the same thing happened. GRRRR. Why was the machine eating our tickets?! Long story short, we did get the FPs but the cast member had to press that same button on the back of the machine to do it. So strange. Our morning sure was off to an interesting start. LOL. Hopefully wed have better luck with the other mountains.
Up next: Frontierland and Adventureland!
