Here's the situation:

My family - dh and I; ds 19, dd 17, ds 12, dd 9, dd 7, dd 4.5 (oldest dd - 22 - is not going this time)
Plus 14 year old friend of the family, which makes 9 total people

We plan to go in mid-October or mid-November. I'm still trying to decide which would be best. October would be good for going swimming, but November would be good for less crowds.

If we go with a value, which I am thinking about doing ASMo, we would get three rooms. The boys would have one, the girls would have one, and dh and I would have one. It would be ideal if the girls and mine would connect since the most of the girls are younger.

Since we'll be there a week I am concerned about the room size. I am sure we won't be in the rooms much and splitting everyone up amongst three rooms would be ideal.

But after reading I am wondering if two rooms at a Mod such as POR would be better since they are bigger. If we go in October, the nicer pool is attractive.

Other things to consider: We may want to rent bikes, watermice, or other things on some days. If we stay at a value I guess we can do so just about anywhere.

My questions are: Someone mentioned 5 people can stay (legally or ethically) in a POR room. If so, how? I didn't notice anything saying 5 people on the Disney site. Thinking about it, I have a million questions while I try to plan, so I'll take any advice possible.

I would definitely go with 3 rooms at a value resort. You would have more room in 3 values than in 2 moderates. Yes the moderate rooms are bigger, but not enough bigger to make up for a whole extra room. Plus, you'd have 3 bathrooms at the value resort, which is a huge plus if you ask me! Putting 5 people in one room and 4 people in another room at a moderate, and only having 2 bathrooms, would cancel out any advantage the moderate would have as far as recreational activities. Like you said, you can go elsewhere to rent boats and bikes.

I'd go with the values just so you and hubbie can get some sleep.

3 rooms at a value. Just remember, by having 3 rooms, you get 3 BATHROOMs, a real plus. I would try at Pop Century if you want a value because they are more centrally located and if you wanted to rent bikes, you are very close to CBR. We went once with 9--just us 2, and 7 of our kids (mostly big ones) and got 2 rooms at POR, it was not enough room for us at all and the kids fought so bad, it took 3 months before anyone was talking to anyone after returning home. A little too much closeness for 7 nights. We had ressies at the All Stars for 3 rooms, but thought the kids would like POR better--I regretted that decision on day 3.

They have surrey bikes at Pop Century now! You would only have to go somewhere else for the watermice.

There are rooms at POR that will accomodate 5, one on a small trundle bed. However I agree that 3 rooms would be much better for your group. Pop Century sounds like a great choice; I would assume they have connecting rooms. I think you really need the bathrooms, just think about all of you trying to get ready in the morning with only 2 rather than 3, and 2 rooms would be much too crowded.

We are DH & I and now DS 15, DD 13, DS 11, DS 8, and DD 6. When we went in Jan of 2003 we stayed in 2 connecting rooms at WL. Personally we did it so the kids could get the feel of staying on property. Would we ever do it again? No way, no how. Not unless we rented a villa. We rent a home at Windsor Palms now that has worked out great for us. If it were me I would definetly go with 3 rooms. More privacy and more bathrooms and more space in general!

I would go for two rooms at PO-R because your older kids are going to like the pool there so much better. They, as well as you and dh, might enjoy a soak in the hot tub, too. We stayed at All Stars last summer, and my teens hated it -- they said they would rather be crowded and have a good pool. We also have found the attention to detail at that resort to be really good. Another plus is that there is an easy way to get to Downtown Disney, also something your older children might enjoy going off and doing.

The Alligator Bayou rooms at PO-R have a trundle bed that's about 5 feet long, so those rooms sleep 5. You pay an extra $15 if you actually have 5, so you would get that charge for one of your rooms but not the other. You can still use the second trundle, though.

Though it'd be a little more expensive, 2 cabins at Fort Wilderness might fit the bill just fine. Each cabin sleeps 6 and you'd have a lot of room to spread out. In addition to your own two bathrooms, you'd have access to all of the shower-houses (Comfort Stations) located throughout Fort Wilderness.
You'd also have daily housekeeping, full kitchens in each cabin for those in-room meals (great for quick breakfasts on EMH days and to keep snacks and drinks in the fridge), grills, picnic tables, beautiful grounds, on-site bike rentals/golf-cart rentals/water-mice rentals, boat service to the Magic Kingdom/Contemporary/Wilderness Lodge, bus service to everywhere else, etc.

Just another option.

I know that the POR AB section has rooms for 5 with a trundle bed. I think the trundle bed is really more for a child. I don't think it would fit most adults. Luckily our older kids don't come with us anymore (they-re 27, 21, 20 and 18). One is married and three are in college and they like to do their vacations with friends. If they all went I think we'd do three values for the extra bathroom and also a little more privacy. (Nice to see someone else with seven kids, it's a rarity anymore).

Hi, unless you really feel you want to stay onsite, there are plenty of homes for rent for a lot less money! We will be renting a 4 bedroom/ 2.5 bath home in March for $600/wk! This will leave us more money to spend on other things! If you still want to stay onsite, I think 3 values may be the way to go. If you go with 2 cabins, you and DH would have to split up unless your 19 yo was in charge! Good luck with whatever you decide!
