My wife will be 3-4 months into her pregnancy when we plan to be at Disney. We,re wondering if she would be safe to go on the rides or not.

Have you done this?

Advice would be most appreciated.

Thanks,

Kuli

Your wife will be safe to go on the rides that have no restrictions, ie Dumbo, Pooh, Haunted Mansion, etc. Any of the "thrill" rides will be out, Space Moutain, Big Thunder Moutain, Tower of Terror, Rock n Roller coaster, you get the picture. The Safari is one that is debated. It is VERY bumpy, and depending on how your wife is feeling, might not be a good idea anyway. I'd have your wife speak to her Dr to get a recommendation.

I went when I was 3 1/2 months pregnant with our 5th DD. I did not do Splash or Space or BTM, but I was a wimp back then anyhow-lol. I would say to follow the ride instructions, most will tell you who should or should not ride. You can also get a Birmbaum's guide that has a section on expectant Mothers. Deb Willis's site may have something as well. I would also speak to my dr. to see what they had to say. They may feel a certain way. I was stupid and did not tell dr. or listen to advice from others and when I think of what could have happened, I am thankful nothing did. Enjoy!

I went last year when I was 6 months pregnant, and with the exception of the Safari, if it said "Pg women shouldn't go on this" - I didn't. I went on the safari and the way I positioned myself, I sort of got "floppy" and moved with the truck, didn't fight the movement if you know what I mean. I think I went on 4 times during the trip and was fine.

I'll be almost 20 weeks on our trip next week and I plan to avoid all of the restricted rides except the Safari and Kali River Rapids. For me, the Safari doesn't seem any worse than the roads here in DC so I think I'll be fine. I don't remember any big drops or high speeds on Kali so I think that's fine too. Of course that could change as I'm going to the dr tomorrow and he might recommend otherwise, so we'll see. When I was 3 months though, there's no way I could I have gone on either of those 2, in fact Snow White probably would have been a stretch since I was so sick all day and the slightest motion made it worse. Luckily all that stopped about a week and a half ago otherwise I would have had a miserable trip. Now if I could only get rid of this cold!

Thanks for the advice. We're going to be sorry to cancel, however, this is a dream trip 4 us and my wife will be sad to have to miss the big rides. I'd rather rebook and enjoy later for now I'm just enjoying the thought of becoming a dad.

I'm currently 6 months pregnant and have an annual pass for Disneyland and I went to WDW for the first time last month. I can go on the majority of the rides. I avoid the restricted rides the above posters mentioned, but there are still lots of fun things to do. We have a 3 year old, so I can go on every ride that she can. If this is your first, it could be years until you can go on all the rides together as a family, so if I were you I would go and have FUN!! Since I was 5 1/2 months pregnant during my last trip, we just had more frequent bathroom breaks and water stops. It was wonderful and fun! Enjoy.

Take care,
Jennifer

DENTIST - is this your first trip, and your last without a family?

If I were you I'd still go. There's so much to see and do without going on the thrill rides. My SIL doesn't do them by choice and still loves to go.

As Jennifer says, it will be many years until you can both go on the thrill rides together anyway (unless you go with another family and take turns). Your DW should just be at the end of feeling sick, and just beginning to feel good. Go for it. You will have a fantastic time.

I was about 5 or 6 weeks pregnant last Nov. when I was at WDW. I spoke to my OB/Gyn and she said to avoid most of the rides that had restrictions for pregnant woman. My OB is a disney addict and she goes to WDW once a year with her family. In her opinion, she felt that splash mountain and the safari ride would be ok for me to ride. Those were the only 2 "restricted rides" that I went on. I felt fine on those rides. Just make sure that your wife drinks plenty of water and rests often. Have a great trip!
