Our friend Mel 27 1st trip
18th-21st June:
Day 1:
This was a trip which had many 1st times in in & not just for Mel. We all took our cameras so at the moment I only have a few photos due to not having a copy of the ones taken by the others, so you will have to bear with me
Picked my cousin & our friend up at 5.50am. Once the car was loaded we were off to meet my aunt & uncle at the services as they had to go with us through the kiosk at Euro tunnel so we could go for a £. My uncle had also able to allow us to go through Flexi Plus (formally club class) so we were able to have some free food & drink on the train. Said goodbye to my aunt & uncle before boarding the train as they were not travelling across with us.
Train left on time at 7.20am. Once in France we were off but the Sat Nav decided to play up & changed the location after getting a GPS signal. After a 30-minute delay we were finally off on our way.
My cousin & I. I'm on the left
All 3 of us in the Cite Europe car park!
The journey was uneventful & very warm. After a quick comfort break about ½ way we set of for the final leg of the journey. The tolls are now 20.20 from Calais Arriving at Sequoia Lodge at 12.30pm.
Decided to check in straight away. Our room wasnt ready but we got our park passes. We then headed straight to the Studios. 1st stop Tower of Terror! Last time I went they were still building this so it was good to finally see the finished article.
My cousin was unsure of this ride but said she would try it. Wait time was only about 20 minutes. I had managed to avoid reading about the ride, as I wanted it to be a complete surprise, it was. I loved it but my cousin hated it.
Next stop was Aerosmiths Rock n Roller coaster, this is a favourite of mine & my cousins, this was a walk on. Mel our friend wasnt keen on it at 1st. We then did Armageddon again this was walk on. I know its not a great ride but we find it funny to see people stand by the bit where the flame comes out & it scares them. We were a bit hungry by this point so decided to grab a bite to eat at En Coulisse. I had the chicken nuggets & fries meal for about 9 my cousin had The Tower burger meal & Mel had a cheeseburger meal. I went expecting food to be really expensive but found it to be reasonable for a Resort. It was hot & plenty to eat.
After eating we headed to see what the queue length was like for Crushs Coaster another 1st. It said 40 minutes so we gave it a shot, as we knew it would only get longer throughout our stay. After about 30 minutes we were on. The ride was ok & I am glad I have gone on it but I dont think its worth queuing ages for. As we exited the ride we saw Remy & Buzz have a meet & greet. Finally got to meet Buzz after 13 previous visits, queued up for Remy who changed over to Emile when we were 2 away
It was around 5pm by now & the clouds look ominously dark. We decided to go back & unload the car in case it did rain. Got our room 4176 & they had allocated one in the main building, it has a view of the service area at the back not sure if this was a result of my fax requesting this but cant complain. Managed to move my car closer to the building when we unloaded. Got everything up to the room & started to unpack. I had come down with a cold a sore throat the day before so had a very hot shower to help break it open. In the meantime the weather had improved to brilliant sunshine again.
At about 8pm we headed out to the HNY bar, however it looked like something was going on as everyone was around the entrance, so instead headed to the DLH bar. This was another 1st as I have never set foot in the hotel in any of my previous visits. It was lovely but Im still not convinced I could justify spending the money they want to stay here. That said if I could get a good deal I could be persuaded. Had a drink in the bar & it was very quiet in there. We all had cocktails (sorry I dont have the photos on my camera), I cant remember mine but it contained 8 year old Havana Rum which was very strong but refreshing. Im not a big drinker usually but was fine after this. The waitress was very attentive & kept topping up the snacks that my cousin & Mel kept eating.
After an hour we headed back through the Village to grab a snack & have a look at the other restaurants to see where else to eat during our stay. We ate at the New York Sandwich bar; I had a Panini & chips. It was hot & fresh. We decided to get a night cap back the SL bar but it was packed & there was no where to sit so after a quick browse in the shop we called it a night at about 10.30pm. Housekeeping was very prompt after we requested more pillows. After they delivered those we were soon asleep
