3 days before, SICK--help!

FloNase is a miracle drug if it's allergies. I'd take some DayQuil along just in case. That will get you through the day. In my experience, nothing keeps a kid down at Disney World. One of mine is always sick when we go. Have a blast!!!

I usually take vitamin C, garlic, oregano, and a echinacea/goldenseal blend tablets as well as the elderberry (just learned this is sold as Sambucol at the drug store so you don't have to go to a health food store).

Also, I find the Zicam nose swabs work wonders! This is basically zinc that keeps the virus from duplicating in the nasal passage so it cuts down on how long the sickness will last.

Vitamin D!!! It is huge in supporting immune health! It is too late to help you avoid the ailment but can really help fight it off quickly.

Both my 4yr old daughter and I have developed some sort of head cold-ish, allergy thing. :(

Home remedies?
Advice? Should we go to doc?

I'm not accepting this. We **will** be well at DW! *determined*

make sure its not allergies, they will be worse

Hi floridadream

I have never heard of Elderberry and just googled it,,thank-you for sharing.
Folk medicine[edit]
"Black elderberry has been used medicinally for hundreds of years.[8][9] Some preliminary studies demonstrate that elderberry may have a measurable effect in treating the flu, alleviating allergies, and boosting overall respiratory health.[10][11]"

Is the Elderberry you take a liquid or a pills supplement?
Thanks
Hugs Mel

We take the liquid form (also known as Sambucol as another poster pointed out). It's quite sweet so you may want the lower sugar version if that bothers you. They also offer a kid's version which I use even though there's a children's dosage on the standard one. Since you're already sick, follow the "intensive" instructions if you see fit. Good luck and feel better soon!

Turns out I have sinus infection. Fever today, lots of sleeping, taking meds, drinking fluids. My daughter is just fine. Kids are so resilient...they can handle this stuff way better than me.

Please say a prayer for me, thanks.

So sorry! For a head cold, go to the doctor to check ears ASAP so you can get antibiotics in before flight.
Send a humidifier to the room(Amazon), pick a loud one too. It really helped with hall noise for us last year. Both my kids had 103 temps two days before our trips. By some pixie dust, they were both fine the morning of.

I usually take Emergen-c when I feel a cold coming on, or zinc lozenges. Before trips, i also put the kids on probiotics. Glad your dd is better, hope you are better soon too. Let us know how you feel tomorrow. What day are you leaving?

I have the same thing right now.

Lots of sneezing, stuffy runny nose.

Sore throat went away when my nose started running, which is good, I guess. At least I'm getting rid of it.

Caught it from my grandson.

Hope you feel better real soon, op.

Have a wonderful trip to WDW!

Went to doc yesterday. I have antibiotics and nasal spray. I'm feeling so much better right now than I was earlier. FEELING OPTIMISTIC! :)

We leave in the morning. We are driving. 9 hrs to Valdosta, Ga, spend the night, then up at the crack of dawn to make it to our 9am Kona ressie.

Oh thank goodness you went to the doc and have stuff to take with you. Get a good night sleep and have a blast!!!

Umcka Tea for sore throat/congestion/increase immunity
lots of Vitamin zinc (I take this once I start feeling sick- in your case it may just shorten duration) 5 pills sometimes

Just some info/advice in case things 'do' get worse once you're at WDW:
We were just there last week with DGrD4 and DGrS17mos. DD went to her doc the day before we left with both of them complaining of sore throats, stuffy heads, runny noses, etc. Doc did strep tests and checked their ears and insisted it was just viral. DD asked doc if he could please give her a script for antibiotics to take with her just in case things got worse during the week (we've had this happen before) - he gave her a lecture on how he could not do that... kids take too many antibiotics... she is not a dr and would not know when it was appropriate to use them, yada, yada, yada. So we leave on Thurs morning, travel together, eat together, sleep together (you get the picture;) - Guess who calls DD in the MK at 1 PM on Friday?? Yep, the Docs office - to tell her DGrD4s strep test they sent off just came back + - full blown strep - needs to be on an antibiotic immediately (and so does DGrS since it is so contagious). They told her to go up to front of park to Guest Services and find out where nearest pharmacy is and they will call scripts in and we need to figure out how to go get them ASAP (no car we took ME). Thanks, Doc! LOL

Anyway, I suggested going to First Aid and, as always, they were wonderful! They are nurses, and gave DD all info she needed and walked her through the process of contacting the pharmacy they work with that will take all your info, speak to your docs office, fill your scripts and deliver them to your hotel (ours arrived at the front desk about 7 PM, first contacted them about 2 PM) for a $7 delivery fee. Only downside was they do not take insurance, but charge you in full. However, they do send all the forms you need to file with your insurance with the scripts.

It was a great system, great help and support from the Disney first aid nurses - saved us a ton of time, frustration and confusion!
Hope everyone gets well quickly and has a great trip!

I would go to the doctor even if you suspect it's a virus or allergies. They at least can confirm, and it may be possible to prescribe cough medicine or nasal spray if you need it. My doctor has prescribed me an antihistamine nasal spray that works wonderfully. Aside from that, I also take Claritin D 24 hours for allergies. Don't usually have a problem. If its more of a cold, start taking a zinc and echinacea combo ASAP. The longer you wait, the less effective it will be. I'd also take a probiotic, Vitamin C supplement, and drink lots of the orange or lemonade vitamin waters - both have vitamin C and zinc. I like Afrin for nasal congestion relief (don't use for more than 2-3 days), a neti pot, and breathe right strips for at night. Hope you feel better quick!

Oh wow! How cool that they brought the meds to your hotel room! Thank you so much for this info, as it's good to have for future reference.

Glad you went! At least you're on antibiotics - that should clear it up soon. Feel better!

I lived in Seoul (South Korea) last year and had terrible sinus headaches and a persistent cough, especially when the weather got cold and dry. I finally figured out I needed a humidifier. Once I got one and let it run all night while I slept, I felt so much better! I've always lived on the Gulf Coast and extra humidity was definitely never something I needed before in my life.

A humidifier may be helpful for you, OP, especially if you're in a dry area. Air conditioning can dry out the air and irritate sinuses, too.

I was confused when I read it at first too. But i think that was a typo, im guessing she meant OTC MEDS (over the counter meds). Avoid it for now, but take it while at wdw if needed. I believe thats what she meant.
Autocorrect, most likely...
