DW and I actually envisioned how it could have been worse--it was an easy vision, we'd see it in PC for buffet lunches or breakfasts--it was called little children who had not yet learned table manners. Other than the one teenager who seemed to drop a knife on the floor every night--really--no problems there. Another blessing of ours is that DS seems to have inherited his mother's lovely manners and has always been well behaved. Thank goodness he didn't take after me....
That reminds me of what I witnessed my last trip to WDW. My 11yo and I were eating at the Italian restaurant in Epcot and there was a boy at the next table who was 4-5 years old. I have to say that I have a 5yo son, also, and I know what normal 5yo rude behavior is

. Well this boy was eating his Fett Alfredo be handfuls, stuffing it in his mouth, dropping it on hsi plate, etc, etc. His parents saw and I guess thought it was cute. At one point one of them asked if he wanted it cut up, which he didn't. He never picked up his fork even once. I can't say that it ruined my meal, but did give Zachary and me something to laugh about later. I had this mental picture of my DH being there and fainting. lol My DH has a thing about pasta being slurped, and I can't imagine what he would do if my 5yo were to grab a handful of it.
Another incident happened when Zachary and I went to Sweet Tomatoes. A kid who was about 9yo was eating with his hands, flinging food, acted like he was going to throw pudding, etc. His family was laughing at him. I observed for awhile and I do not think that the boy was special needs of any sort. He was allowed to go to the buffet by himself and seemed perfectly normal. We were shaking our heads over that one, too.
I'm not thinking that a table without another family would be a good idea, not that my family is exactly perfect.
