I went to the doctor today because I have been having some pretty bad knee pain for the last 4 days and he feels that I have ligament damage in my knees. I have to go to an Orthopedic Doctor AFTER my trip to WDW, but he told me to stay off of my feet as much as possible. How am I supposed to go to the parks and stay off of my feet?
I will not let this keep me from going on my much anticipated trip, and I am wearing the knee brace the dr. recommended until I see the Ortho dr.
I have considered renting a wheelchair for when I am in the parks and using crutches to get around the AKL. Do the parks rent wheelchairs? I honestly can not remember, I have rented strollers many times, but never noticed if they rent wheelchairs. The weird thing is, I have no idea how my knees have gotten ligament damage, I have not injured myself. Go figure:D
I intend to have a great trip and the only part I am worried about is the drive back home:scared: :D

Thanks for listening!!

The parks definitely rent wheelchairs. Try to take it easy as much as possible and hope for the best. Good luck to you on your trip and with the orthopedic doctor.

Does anybody know how much the wheelchair rentals cost?

$7 a day, with a $1 refundable deposit, according to my 2004 Birnbaum guide. By the way, you can also request a complimentary wheelchair at the AKL during your stay, but supplies are limited; you might want to get in touch with them ASAP to have them make a notation on your reservation.

I would rent the EVS (electric cart) rentals are $40.00 a day with $10.00 depost returned so $30.00 actual cost. Noone will have to push you and they are quite speedy....we rented one for DM a few weeks ago..They are a must for AK and EPCOT because of the area you have to cover..they also work like the strollers save receipt and if you go to another park same day you may get another cart there. (no addition charge)

HAVE A GREAT TRIP!!! sorry about your knee

Here's the whole list of places that DIS posters have reported good results renting wheelchairs or ecvs from:
Care Medical:
http://www.caremedicalequipment.com/
Phone (407) 856-2273 • Toll Free U.S and Canada (800) 741-2282

Walker Mobility:

www.walkermobility.com

RANDY'S Mobility is in Kissimmee 407-892-4777

Colonial Medical

(800)747-0246

All of them will deliver to your resort. Randy's requires that you are there for pick up and delivery. If you decide you want an ecv, renting one from off-site is the way to make sure you get one. They are limited quantities at the parks and may be all gone when you get there. If you park hop, you can get one one at the second park , but the big "if" is if they have one.

The WDW resorts all lend wheelchairs, but people have posted mixed results on that. Sometimes, the wheelchair that is available is great, sometimes it's not in good shape or is not the right size. People have posted that the resort can try to tade with another resort, but it can take anywhere from a few hours to a few days to get what you need. SO, even if planning to borrow from one of the resorts, a lot of people take the medical company contact info along anyway. Here's a link to the DIS page about touring with mobility disabilities that may be helpful to you. I have a link in my signature to the disABILITIES Board if you want more info about touring with a wheelchair or ecv.
