2br/total guests? once in a lifetime experiences?

Hi!
We are scheduling a last minute trip to WDW. Often we schedule years in advance and save up accordingly. This time however is not an option, my father-in-law was just diagnosed with a terminal disease and he'd like to take the grandkids one last time. (My husband and his siblings have tons of wonderful memories spending time at WDW throughout the years. My f-i-l would like a trip like that with my husband, his sister and the g-kids).
So our dilemmna- OKW Grand Villa is 296 points. Even at a bargain at $10 per point that puts us at $2960. Which given a year to save up would be no problem, but right now we only have a few weeks to put it together. We have 9 people in our group. Our kids are 16 (boy)and 14 (girl). My niece is 9.
If we rented a 2 br can we get an extra roll-away bed? It would be three couples each to a bed (my husband and I, bed 1) (his parents, bed 2) (his sister and husband, bed 3), my daughter and my niece (bed 4) and then the roll-away for our son.
So, if this was an option, what is the square footage of the room? Are we going to be tripping over one another? Which resort has the largest 2br? Right now we have POR reserved with three rooms, but we'd prefer something a little cozier, but not too cozy.
Also:
I have booked a Wishes cruise with dinner to be brought out to us. We are taking the girls to Chef Mickeys and MNSSHP. What else would be a magical experience of a lifetime that we need to do one last time? Any advise is greatly appreciated!

Sorry about your FIL. Hope your trip is truly magical.

The maximum occupancy for a 2 bedroom unit is 8 persons plus an infant under the age of 3. A portable crib (Pac 'n Play) is provided for the infant.

DVC does not / will not provide cots, rollaways or extra bedding to accomodate more than the stated maximum.

OKW has the largest 2 bedroom units of the 5 WDW DVC resorts.

Normally, we close threads that ask about exceeding the occupany (once the question has been answered). That is because the threads tend to become nasty. Those who want to discuss occupancy are asked to take it to this thread:

Looks like you'd be one over the occupancy--2BR is designed for 8 people. DVC does not have roll away beds. With last minute things, unfortunately there emay not be a grand villa available. OKW has the largest rooms and, if they would allow it you could provide your own air matterss and bedding. I have heard people say they have had 5 in a one bedroom and or 5 in a studio.

I'm sorry to hear about your FIL. A 2 bedroom and a studio would give you enough space and would be less points than a grand villa. Your chances of booking a last minute grand villa are probably slim anyway. Since this is a last trip for FIL, you want it to be stressfree and pleasant. Crowding too many people into a unit can make for short tempers and too much togetherness.

I'm sorry to hear the news about your FIL - prayers and pixie dust that you have a magical trip!

We stayed in a GV at OKW in May and it was wonderful so if there is one available and you want to do that points I say go for it!

A 2 br and 1 studio sound like another good idea!

Have you found a member to make the reservation for you yet? If you are looking for Oct, you may very well be out of luck. You may have a better chance at Sept.

I saw your post on the R/T Board and see you are looking for mid-October and that will be very difficult to get by DVC points. That's right at Food & Wine Festival, Halloween parties and I think the Golf Tournament.

You probably only have your POR reservation to fall back on. Unless you want to try to rent directly from Disney through CRO, but you'd be spending a lot more than what you figured at $10 a point.

OKW has the largest rooms, but there are only 3 beds in a two bedroom, plus the fold-out sofa in the living room. I would go with the studio, and the 2 bedroom, and have 5 beds, 3 bathrooms, and the fold-out sofa.

We are 8 in a 2bedroom in March. My 24 year old niece will be in the area for 2 days midpoint in our trip. MS told me that it was no problem having her stay with us. (called to make sure).
We will just get an airmattress at Walmart or somewhere and have our son sleep in the master with us for those two nights. You might consider doing that.

I agree. A 2BR plus a Studio is the way to go.

They can't call MS, they are not members. They were looking to rent points for their stay.

You will need lots of pixi dust for an October DVC ressie at this late date. Most will be booked by now, and your only hope might be to have your renter waitlist for you. The problem with that will be the availability of 2 bedrooms and studios. I do agree that the 2 bedroom plus a studio is the way to go, but both are going to be difficult to find available at DVC now.

I agree, trying to rent point now for October probably will make occupancy a moot point. Good luck to the OP, but if I were you, I would probably be making ressies for 2 or 3 rooms at a regular WDW resort or booking a DVC for cash through Disney.

If we were able to secure a 2br, is there a possibility that a studio is next door? We stayed in a studio before and I only remember the connecting door and the outside door.
I guess what I'm asking is what is the best configuration?

No studios connect to 2 bedrooms at OKW. The studios are actually the second bedroom of 2 bedroom lock off units. The best you might do is be in the same building, or maybe on a differnt floor (above or below the 2 bedroom unit).

We did the exact same kind of trip when my FIL was dying of cancer. We did a 2 BR and a studio, giving the studio to my MIL and FIL. That way he had some privacy, and was able to get some rest when needed. My family and my sister-in-law's family stayed together in the 2 BR. It was much rowdier, since we had all the kids with us.

My FIL was able to do the parks in the mornings with us, but by mid-afternoon he was tired and went back to the room with MIL to rest. We took the busses to the parks, but put my MIL and FIL in a cab whenever possible to make the transportation easier on him as he was in a wheelchair.

As far as great experiences, I would certainly do the Leave A Legacy tiles at Epcot. That will be something you can come back and see year after year.

Unfortunately, they only have the ability to put two people on each tile, so you may have to do several tiles, but it's still worth it.

You were looking for something magical....
how about dinner at California Grille on a night you can watch WISHES?
Or call Disney Florist and have a "Welcome to Disney World" basket put together for your FIL. They have more than snacks, fruit and flowers. Tell them you want to be creative, the women there are VERY helpful. I have done this numerous times for those going to WDW and for my DH and myself. Having fruit, pretzels, etc in the room during the week is great. I also ask them to swap out the basket for a nice bag- easier to pack when he goes home and a nice souvenir!

Does he have a favorite character? How about a character meal with the whole family? Or if he loves the monorail. You can go to the front of the line for boarding to find special seats to ride in the very front windows of the monorail (all 9 of you wont be able to do this, Im not sure theres room) Stay on the monorail until it arrives back where you started- I particularly like the one that zips thru MGM!! Great way to see a big portion of the park and its air conditioned and you can sit!!

You also might look into a "Magical Gathering" experience- like a personal safari thru the Animal Kingdom wild animal park- check this link for ideas, and call to get more info, they may also be able to assist you with your rooms. Maybe a cabin at FW??

One more idea--I got it from someone on here with a photo in their sig!
I dont have a photo handy. But you can call the GF or BW bakery to request he be delivered to a restaurant in the area (ask which ones can be delivered to) have him accompanied by chocolate covered strawberries- its an AWESOME presentation!
