less points for 2 studios than for 1 2BR

Any thoughts?

Are you planning to do any meals in the villa or will you be dining out? What about laundry needs? Also remember that the studios may not necessary be close to each other.

Do you want a place to visit with each other? If the common areas of the resort are good enough for you to do that, then go with the 2 studios. However, if you want to do some cooking, washing clothes, than go with the two bedroom. I've done both when I'm with friends.

sparkyboy beat me to it - if you want to use the full kitchen, go for the two bedroom. If you want a washer and dryer right in your villa, go for the two bedroom. If you want to guarantee to be right next to each other, go for the two bedroom.

Studios never connect to one another, only to a one bedroom to make a two bedroom lockoff.

I would want the washer and dryer, but I'm a point miser and would probably go with a one bed at OKW.

A one bedroom, standard view in Kidani may be enough, and it would have 2 full baths plus the other amenities. Just an idea.

where are you staying?

if BLT then definitely go for the 1-bedroom standard - same for AKV and OKW.

OKW only has 1-bathroom. the others have 2 bathrooms.

that say would go with two studios at OKW. it is the biggest of the studios and you will have enough room.

all the pools at OKW/SSR have a washer/dryer.

I'd go with the studios unless you really want the kitchen. You can do laundry easily in the laundry room at the resort. I still prefer using those machines over the one in the villa (except for the full size washer and dryer at OKW). Those stackable W&D just don't hold as much and boy were they noisy.

The advantage of two studios is privacy. The family with the five year old can easily get him to nap or to bed without making the other family be extra quiet or isolated to their bedroom. And other couple can be alone for awhile.

The 2BR does cost lots of points but it would have two bedrooms and then the five year could sleep while the adults stay up in the living room. We never cooked in our kitchen but the large refrigerator in the 2BR at Kidani worked well because we bought lots of fruit, juices, milk and cold drinks plus breakfast foods and healthy snacks for our tweens and teens that were staying in two 2BRS but mainly ate in our villa. There was nothing leftover either.

This. With two studios you can't put the 5 year old to bed and then stay up and visit - you have to split up into your two separate rooms. I was weighing the same thing for our next trip with DH, DS (4 at the time) and my inlaws, and I realized that I wanted DS to be able to go to bed, and all of us to be able to stay up together in the living area, or even us to go out while the inlaws babysit. Plus, after having stayed in a one-bed and two-bed the last two trips, I LOVE the washer/dryer and the kitchen.

If you want a little more privacy for each family, then two studios. It depends also on who the 5 year old is. A niece/nephew or grandchild that you would want to spend time with or the bratty child of friends, sorry but it does make a difference since one couple is without a child.

:lmao: Hadn't quite thought of it that way, Sammie, but that is entirely possible.

If I'm really close with the people, I would do the 2 BR (or 1 BR that other people suggested). It's so nice to be able to spend some time together in the living room at night or eat a group breakfast. You really lose the togetherness with 2 studios. But sometimes that can be a good thing! :rotfl2:

Thank You all i am now more confused than ever LOL

Just to clarify it is ME DW and DD(5), and my parents.

I am so confused.

So the 1BR at AKV and BLT sleep 5 with 2 baths?

Yes, there is a huge master bathroom off of the master bedroom, and then in the living room, there's the queen sleeper sofa and a twin sized sleeper chair. There's a full bathroom near the entrance to the villa in both Kidani and BLT. Only a 1 bedroom in Kidani or BLT would have these amenities. Jambo has the sleeper chair but not the second bathroom.

Do it this way:

Using fewer points is important to me (point for 2 studios)
The kitchen is important to me (point for 2 bedroom)
The washer dryer is important to me (point for 2 bedroom)
Having a spot for the family to gather is important to me (point for 2 bedroom)
Getting away from my relatives is important to me (or my guests) (point for studios).

My grandparent trips would definitely be in a two bedroom.

I'd skip the one bedroom - having three people sleep in the living room is not my idea of a good time. I'll have my kids sleep on the pullout in the living room, but I wouldn't expect grownups (especially my parents) to sleep out there, and I wouldn't want to.

I would do the 2BR for that group. I don't really want to sleep on a sleeper. I wouldn't put my parents on a sleeper intentionally. I would want us to have a common area and really be able to spend the time together.

I would either do a 1 Bedroom at BLT or AKV, or a 2 Bedroom...not 2 studios..

We stayed in a 1 bed at BLT in december and napped on the sofa bed many times...I wouldnt hesitate to sleep there all night if it was saving me alot of points AND it would work with my travel party...

If not - I'd suggest going for the 2Bedroom Lockoff at OKW...low points, freedom to lock off...plenty of space...even 2 patio spaces....5 yr old could use the sleeper chair so that the couch wasnt opened nightly...(my 4.5 year old slept on the sleeper chair in December at BLT and it was perfect for him! he'll be doing it again in September at OKW when we are there with my parents!!)

We had almost the exact same group on our first DVC trip. Me, Bill, our son and Bill's parents. We got a two bedroom villa and gave his parents the second bedroom. We did not get a lockoff.

While I love my family dearly and my wifes as well I really don't want to share a room. When we take someone with us we always go for the two separate rooms so that every one can have some time a way if needed. Also when we take some one with us we always tell them they are more than welcome to hang out together as much as they like or we can just meet at meal times if that suits them. I find this gives everyone a gracious way out.

Do the grandparents get to see their grandchild often or will this be a very special time for them. If you all get together frequently then getting a 2 bd wouldn't be as important. But if they don't get enough time together than I'd go for the 2 bd so everyone can be close. The grandparents can still hang out in their own room if they have the need.

I love having the space that a living room affords along with a real kitchen. That's the reason we bought DVC ----space!
