I have crunched numbers and came up with a REALLY low budget for a 6night/7day trip to WDW. Can you look this over and tell me if I am delusional or if there is anything I am missing in my calculations?

Here are the family stats:

DH
Me
DD-12
DD-9, but will be 10 by the time we go
DS-6

2 adjoining rooms @ POP

1 preferred room for 1 adult and 1 child with base tickets: $1183.49
1 preferred room for 1 ad and 2 children with base tickets: $1480.72

Free QS dining plan if we arrive by March 10, 2012. Cost to upgrade to DDP is approximately $17 per adult ($68 total) and $3.50 for the child.

So here it is:
$1183.49
$1480.72
$71.50
~~~~~~~~
Total......$ 2735.71
What do you think???????
I think that you need to refigure a bit. Everyone but the 6 year old counts as an adult for tickets and dining.
Or did you figure that and I'm just reading wrong?
Also why the preferred rooms? Unless you have your heart set on looking out over a pool, some of them are as far as standards from the lobby.
Wouldn't it be $17 per adult per day? $17 x 4 people x 6 nights = $408.00 and the child would be $21.00 for 6 nights.
I just noticed that after I posted and was going to say something. It's $17 a person per night for adults. So your math is correct.
are 2 rooms at pop cheaper than 1 room at POR?
I just check for them, no availability for the days they need. It probably would be cheaper though since you would get the regular dining plan and wouldn't have to upgrade the QS plan.
Actually, am I missing something? I just checked Pop and there wasn't any availability there either.
EDIT: I just realized they would have to check in by March 8th to get the FD. I was looking at the March 10th date in the original post.
for both park tickets and dining, any child 10 or older is a Disney adult
don't forget tips on every meal
Maybe I am wrong...someone double check me.
FD is offered if you check in by 3/8 so I am doing 3/8-3/14 6 nights
1 adult/1 child in a standard Pop Room
6 day Base ticket
Upgraded from QS dining
$1,621.89
3 adults in a standard Pop Room
6 day Base ticket
Upgraded from QS dining
$2,167.38
Total $3,789.27
You can stay at POR Riverside in one room.
3/8-3/14 6 day base tickets with the regular dining plan 4 adults 1 child
$3,029.79
I think you are misunderstanding the cost to upgrade from the QS dining plan. It is $17 per adult PER NIGHT and $3.50 per child PER NIGHT.
If you have 4 adults for 6 nights the cost would be $408 to upgrade your dining and the child would be $21.
$17 x 4 x 6 = $408
$3.50 x 1 x 6 = $21
I agree--you haven't included travel costs.
For my family of 5 next summer, I'm hoping to keep flight costs under $1300.
I think everyone has pointed out the issues with your numbers already- you have to check in by March 8th, not the 10th. The dining plan upgrade will be that amount per night. Your 9 yr old will be counted as an adult since he/she will be 10 by then.
You also need to add in travel to/from Disney, tips for your table service meals, etc...
I just plugged in March 8-14 at POR and with free dining and 6 day base tickets got a price of $2,827 total.
I would upgrade to POR because it's my understanding that they won't "guarantee" adjoining rooms at any of the hotels. You can request them but that doesn't mean you'll actually get them - only if they are available and since this is prime season I wouldn't count on them; which means you could have rooms down the hall from each other or even on two different floors.
Each person 10 or older will require an adult ticket.
Only the 6yo will use a child ticket. Four seven day base adult tickets plus one 7 day base child ticket comes to $1401.54 including tax.
And I think the quote price of upgrade from QSDP to DDP is per person per night, not for the total of six nights. So it would be $405 to upgrade to DDP:.
Thanks so much friends! Indeed I did have the dining plan upgrade incorrect...:guilty:
We booked last night and here is the breakdown:
POR for 6 nights/7 days with base tickets. We are checking in our March 8, so DDP is free since POR is a moderate. DD 9 won't turn 10 til the day after we leave, so she still got the child plan. :thumbsup2
Total...... $2849.59!!!!! :cool1:
We are driving, so no airfare. Gas will not be cheap, but we still have time to save for that. We plan to drive straight through so that we won't have to get a hotel room on the way down like we did this past March.
As someone else mentioned, tips are not included with the regular dining plan. I am just guessing off the top of my head, but you're going to want to budget at least $25 per sit-down meal in tips.
$25 * 6 = $150 (my estimate may be low)
You are going to want to budget in your souvenir money as well. One great tip I learned on these boards is to give each child their money on a gift card. If the children have control of their money, they are less likely to want everything they see.
In my disney vacations I work my vacation around the cheap flight. It takes alot of planning and some sacrafice to make it work. The only problem with orlando is there is to much to do and to buy park tickets for everything is a killer. But if you stick to one park its not bad. My next orlando trip we will hit disney world, universal and lego land and try to get to seaworld. Ticket prices add up in a hurry. I thought it would be cheaper to go to hawaii with no theme park tickets but there are a ton of things to do in hawaii and it is going to cost me double what orlando costs, submarine rides, fishing, pearl harbor, dolphin swim, helicopter tours. Next trip will definatelty be orlando.:thumbsup2
Yes, I am aware of the tips and souvenier money. We actually went in March of this year, just didn't go near as cheap! I have already purchased gift cards for each of us to use for souveniers. Last time we went I printed out the envelopes for dinner tips and mousekeeping tips from themouseforless.com. I plan to do that again. We do "cash only" trips...NOTHING goes on the credit card. We have four months to save for gas money, eating on the way to and from Disney, and tips....
