.

I look at best seller lists, listen to other people's opinions and generally just muck around when looking for a good read. I'll wander through a library or bookstore for hours in search of the perfect book.

Once I find an author, I usually read everything he/she has written.

I read for any reason. I like it.

Right now I have a stack of about 70 books on my nightstand which I want to read.
A lot of them are books that I have been recommended to read before I go to college and then some are just fun books that looked good at the bookstore :)
I go on bn.com (barnes and noble) or amazon.com and do searches sometimes too

Depends on my mood and if I need or want to learn about something.

I read about lots of things, both fiction and non- fiction.

I scared my husband a few times by my choices.

How to disappear, and the other one how to find someone. lol

How inspiring to be inspiring (:
If it technical or anything related to how to, I do not consider that reading IMHO.

The first thing I look for in a fiction is the raggedy edges of the pages. If the paper is thicker with intentional uneven ragged edges that is a big plus.
Then I look at the font of the typeface and the spacing. It has to be soothing to my eyes.
Cover Art.
Art inside the book.
The dedications and prefaces.
If there are any little inspirational sayings and poetry.
Finally the title, author and review.

Works for me.

I go to the romance section of the library, look to see if my fav authors have a book I haven't read, if not, I look up some good pics of half-naked men on the covers and pick out the ones that look most appealing.;)

;) Thanks ;)

I have a hard time reading fiction. I know that is not normal...LOL. I hardly ever read a romance novel although I did read "Suzanne's Diary For Nicholas" this summer. (The cover reminded me of LBI--where I grew up) I remember reading "The Promise" by Danialle Steele many years ago & I loved it. So, I read another one of her books. To me their all the same--the character is in love then tragedy happens and she must find happiness again. Nothing wrong with that but I can only read it so many times.

I read so very little. I am more of a reader now than I have ever been. My sister is very nice to recommend books that she thinks I will like (she knows how I am about reading). As I have read to DD I have developed more of a love for reading. So, you can teach an old dog new tricks. ;)

Chipper, how do you chose a book? Your choice on Betz's thread sounds like the kind of book I tend to go for. How interesting. :)

I only read what's required for school. No matter what I read, I fall asleep! ;)
