Trying to decide on our 25th anniversary trip next year... Which would you do?

5 nights at HHI

OR

2 nights at AKV, followed by 4 nights at HHI

The second option would add about 3 hours extra to our driving time. Right now, we aren't sure if the kids will be with us or not. I think we will book 2 studios since we aren't sure, plus if they do join us, it will be nice to have the privacy of our own room.

Anybody want to chime in??? I'm needing to make a decision soon, since I'm getting ready to finish booking my October trip, and what I book will depend on which choice I plan on making for next year. TIA!

It's a personal decision, based on your own schedule and preferences. That being said, if it were us, we'd go for half a stay at AKV and half at HHI. We own at AKV and wouldn't want to miss the chance to stay there, and we've been to HHI and think its a great place to be. Good luck with your decision and Happy Anniversary!

Thank you. We own at both AKV and HHI. We usually go to AKV one year and HHI the next. Our last family trip to HHI was in 2013. My DH and I are going to WDW alone this year. So I'm trying to figure out next year, which happens to be our 25th anniversary. We've never done both WDW and HHI together, so not sure if we would like it or not. We LOVE HHI, probably more than WDW, but we love it, too. We just love that we are able to relax at HHI.

Have you thought about Aulani for that special anniversary?

If you like the peace and quite of HHI over WDW then why not head to Hawaii and enjoy the BEST DVC Resort on the planet! :woohoo:

We are planning on Aulani for our 30th. We will be in a better position for paying for the expensive plane tickets. Right now, we have two teens getting ready to enter college and we just went through a major home renovation. Plus the year of our 30th, we will have a lot to celebrate--monumental anniversary, younger child graduates college, and my retirement.

So that leaves me planning my 25th. I'm not much on split stays, so I'm not sure if I would like to combine a WDW trip with a HHI trip. But if our kids go with us, it might be one of the last times they can go to both for a while. I do have to say that I'm worried about going to WDW at the end of July--so hot!!! We usually go in October.

I would go to HH for the whole time. Two days at AK isn't much time, and then drive to HH (I believe that is about 5 hours). But that's just me. Anyway enjoy your 25th and have a great time.

Thank you. That's why I'm hesitant about this. But we are used to short trips. We have driven 12 hours just to go for 2 days before. We can do most of what we want in two days. The difference will be instead of driving home, we will be driving to our next vacation. And the 5 hour drive will actually put us closer to home. That's why this decision is so hard!!!

My DH and I have driven from NY to WDW for 3 nights, followed by 3 nights in HH and then home. It was a great trip and I'd do it again in a heartbeat :cool1:

Thanks for sharing your experience. I've thought about doing 3 nights WDW/3 nights HHI, but my family loves HHI more so that's why we are thinking 2/4. I keep imagining dinner at Shula's to celebrate our anniversary a few days early, followed by relaxation at HHI (including a nice dinner and hopefully a fireworks cruise on our actual 25th). This sounds like the best of both worlds. I just don't want to overdo it, thus my concern. Thanks for the reassurance.

Surprisingly, I'd lean toward option #2. Yet I LOVE HHI. We stayed there in 2011, and while I enjoyed it, I missed the "Happy Anniversary" from all the CMs at WDW. Some people find that annoying after a while, but we like it. But on the plus side at HHI, they put your name on the resort in-room TV channel.

I was so excited, I didn't even notice they'd spelled DH's name wrong until later.

Hey, Simba's Mom. I've followed your posts, and I think I share your love for HHI. That's why this decision is so hard.

I love how HHI puts the message on TV, but I have to say I think I would also enjoy a special anniversary meal at WDW, too.

Our original plan was to go to HHI just the two of us, then take a family trip to WDW right before Christmas. We usually go to WDW over fall break, but my older DS is starting college this fall and won't have a fall break at the same time as the rest of us. After some discussion, I found out that he doesn't want to go to WDW in December because he lives to fish and it's not the best month for fishing. Plus he loves HHI and wants to go there too. My other DS loves HHI but could care less if he ever goes to WDW again. :sad2: He was upset when I proposed that we go to HHI without him and then make him go to WDW. That's why I started thinking of combining WDW and HHI. It allows our older son to go to WDW when he would prefer and our older son to go to HHI like he wants.
