25 points now or more later?

I came across a 25 point resale contract, same UY as my 220 direct point one. We don’t really *need* more points, I rent them out every third year usually. But, this slight bump would give us cushion for things we want to do as splurges Grand Villas and long stays and such. But these bucket list things arent realistically going to happen for 10+ years. We are in our early 40s, kids are 10 and 11. My husband is leaning towards just waiting until closer to when we would really need the points and potentially buy 50-100 more. I feel like 25 point contracts hardly ever come along- especially in our UY. It’s priced high. We have the money for it, but it’s still 5K after fees and dues and such. Bit so far…prices never come down! So does anyone want to hash out their thoughts? WWYD?

You say same UY as your current 220 contract, but is it the same resort? It would only make sense to me if it's the same resort. But if you really don't have specific plans to use those points now, seems like waiting might make more sense - unless you have had success with renting points, and the additional points might help you recoup some of the funds. Otherwise, I'd wait and see what's up in a few years.

Disney in general and DVC in particular is in a lot of flux right now. No APs, no new DVC construction even announced. And yet resale is at all time highs. This isn’t when I would be buying for theoretical grandkids.

If you’re renting out points, I’d be thinking about selling right now. Renting doesn’t make any sense to me mathematically. I’d rather take the cash and buy the contract that makes sense when the theoretical future need shows up.

Yes same resort, sorry! Yes, I’ve rented points easily before so I feel confident that when we have overages, I could rent them. But of course there’s effort in that process!

Sounds to me like waiting would be the way to go for now - if it were us. 25 points probably isn't going to make or break your bank or your DVC planning. Perhaps wait until you see if you wish to make a bigger commitment with those 50-100 points, or if you determine your 220 is just right. Good luck with your decision!

I would say especially if you already rent some points out to hold off. If you need 25 points in a year you can always get the OTU points and not have to worry about the years of maintenance. Sounds like you can get more creative with banking and borrowing and renting out less to splurge.

Unless its cheap (which is unlikely) I wouldn't worry about it if I didn't need points for years from now and you might never need them. You are going to also be double paying on the closing costs and such as well which increases the cost per point higher.

You don’t really need it and the price is high. Your other points are direct and not restricted.. The price difference for that resale contract is probably not too far off from direct. I’d be leaning toward waiting too.

Disneyland DVC Tower is being constructed currently. Though new DVC properties really shouldn’t influence your decision much since you won’t be able to use/rent your points for new resorts anyway.

Lol! I thought You guys would be my enablers! But your points make sense. It’s Aulani. We have subsidized dues, this add on does not. It gives us enough points to do a 5 night grand villa using 2.5 years of points, which is a goal- but not for a while. We also fell in love with OKW and would love to do 2 weeks in a one bedroom, but again- not for years until we have more flexible schedules.
I think you guys are right. It makes sense to wait. If I happen upon a low point, March UY with subsidized dues though… I’m getting it, lol!

25 points don’t go far at Aulani. If you could get the price down, I would go for it.

Right but combined with my other contract it gives me more oomph. It’s more for adding onto what we have. I’d never buy 25 as a stand alone! Listing says price is firm

Edit- ooooohhhhh or do you mean 25 points isn’t going to be attractive to many? So there may be more room in the price than it seems?

Yes, that’s what I am saying. I think there’s a more limited buyers market for that contract than for some other resorts like the ones on site at WDW for instance.
