ok... so the alton towers thread made me look into how much it'd be to go to DLP for my birthday (25th July) and it's cheap (well, staying @ Santa Fe is anyway!) but i was wondering how bad the crowds would be.. it'd be mon-wed of the first week of the UK school summer holidays... is it gonna be awful?

Ok, i'll answer as best i can.
In the 8 times I have been to DLP, only the first time (in 2000) did i ever experience any real crowds there. I think the Studios has aleviated any real congestion.

I have never been in Summer however, but I always go during school holidays (one disadvantage of being a teacher is that you're always off when the kids are!!) and have never found crowds a problem, especially compared to the American (well, Florida really, didnt see great crowds in Anaheim)!

So I think you should be ok, but more experienced summer visitors can give you more than this info :)

thanks! well... i've been twice, both in december... and for a weekday and a weekend... now, 05 was quiet the friday but the saturday was just silly! i know what you mean abotu studios though, we headed there for the main part of the day going back over the DLP for the parades...

yeah doing the Studios and then into the park is my usual tactic too!

I have also been twice over New Year, which I imagine is maybe the busiest day of the year there? And never really seen massive queues (maybe helped by the park being oppen til 1am!!)

Becks, most of our trips are in the height of summer.
If you aim for park opening you should be fine. There is normally nothing shut so that should help :)

Hi Becks :thumbsup2
We are going on the 26th July.....midweek, so the crowds shouldn't be too bad. I have been in August (fairly crowded but not too bad), May (not at all crowded), Halloween (pleasantly crowded) and Christmas (horribly crowded). At least the park is open until late in summer so it shouldn't be too bed, and we will get there for park opening!

totallyangelic.. did you find august less busy than xmas? when were you there in xmas 2005?

When we went in August it was less busy than in December, and yes it was December 2005, (16th December) and it was a weekend which probably made it even busier. As we always have to go in school hols I have never seen it really quiet as some board members relate, but somehow I find "busy" a lot more bearable during the summer etc than December when it's also freezing! I am so looking forward to our July trip.....lovely long warm evenings!

We have always been in the summer too (I work in a pre-school so term time holidays are out!). We have never found the crowds a problem (well apart from the shuttle buses at the end of the day). We have always made sure that we get into the park for opening and do the rides that interest us before the queues get too long, plus getting into the park on opening gets you some great character opportunites too. The rest of the time we just wander onto rides as and when we feel like it.

We are going this year July 24th - 29th and staying at the Sequoia Lodge.

That's good news, I wouldve thought it would be packed in early cummer holiday.
