...........................

I just thought it was people on Jerry Springer. The guy who slept with his cousin's nephew's girlfriend's niece. :upsidedow

I thought he slept with his cousin AND his nephew AND his girlfriend AND his niece!!

Doesn't bother me.

BTW - If you were asked to be on Bridzillas, why would you? You already know they aren't going to show you in the best of light KWIM?

It is a word I word I would never use. I hear it from young people though. I also hear them use retard and the "n" word. Actually, I hear African-Americans saying the "n" word to each other and laughing as they do. I think it is OK to them for them to say it to each other but I'll never be using it.

I also think of "Good Times" when I hear the word ghetto. JJ always said it like it was a "sad" (as in tough, I guess) place to be from but they were gonna make it anyway. At least that was my 10yo mind's way of taking it.

BTW, ghettos were originally created for Jews.

The literal translation of ghetto is 'Foundry' in a Venician dialect of Italian. I found this out when I was in Venice and stayed in the "Ghetto". Venice segregated their Jewish population onto a portion of the island that also contained the foundry. After dark the bridges were raised so they could not leave the island and any found off of the island after curfew were arrested.

Of course as with most things the connotation has changed over time. I am not condoning such actions but providing historical context.

The ghetto is not a place, it's a state of mind.

I agree.

I don't find it offensive. I use the phrase occasionally. I've never watched Bridezillas but from the looks of the commercials, I would probably call it trashy or kind of "ghetto". :rotfl:

The phrase doesn't bother me but most of the people on bridezillas make me want to hide under a rock :rolleyes1

Doesn't really offend me anymore than the terms redneck or trailer trash. But I can see where it might offend someone who actually lives in an area that is considered the ghetto. Honestly I see it more as a frame of mind then as a reference to an actual location.
