Advairs maximum benefits take a week or more of use to appear. Optimally it should be taken twice a day. I don't believe you are benefiting from the fluticasone propionate (steroid) part of this medication.

I would ask about using a short acting inhaler like albuterol instead of the Advair. If you cant take albuterol there are other options. The salmeterol part of the Advair is a bronchodilator. It is long acting and more than likely the reason you are waking up with the shakes.

Hope you figure it out. My son has needed his inhaler with this weather lately too! Feel good.:)

I take both zoloft in the morning and advair twice per day every day. I hae never had that type of reaction.

You shouldn't be getting too many systemic effects like you're experiencing from Advair. It's an inhaled medication, so the effects of it stay pretty much in the lung. Yes, some of it can get into the blood stream and cause systemic effects, but it is mostly in the lung. Not saying it's not the cause of it, but I don't think it would be causing it. If it makes a difference, I also take Advair, and I never experienced anything like that, but everyone's body is different.

As for the Proventil, that is albuterol, just a brand name of it. The reason you may be hearing that it's not as effective is because of the new inhalers. I'm personally not a fan of them, it took me a little bit to get used to it and learn to use it properly, so now it's ok. Now, there is no longer generic albuterol inhalers because the FDA decided that the CFC in the inhalers was hazardous to the ozone.

Sorry to hear about your symptoms C. Ann. My ds has bween taking advair forever and I too, dont don't like the side effects when listed for children, but he is a young adult now. I think alot of his endocrine problems before had to do with the med, which he is still on.

But one thing you said got me thinking. You said you dont use it every inght. I though when you open the pack the disc is only good for the immediate 30 days? Just wondering if you dont take it every day, do you use the disc within a whole month etc?

Hope you feel better soon.

Basically, yes.. It's hard to explain the unusual manner in which I have to use it - and how infrequently I have to use it.. It's not a typical scenario- meaning the way other patients traditionally take it or "why" they take it.. When the 30 day expiration date is over it gets tossed and I may not have to get another refill for several months - considering I don't require it on a consistent basis.. Does that make sense - or am I being as clear as mud?? LOL
