I posted a thread after we returned from our trip, but a few more things occurred to me since then. So here are a few more observations from our latest Fall adventure.
Space Mountain has been tamed. The notoriously rough, classic indoor coaster has been clearly slowed down, to make it less of a spine rearranger. While this does detract a little from the thrill factor, I did appreciate not having to hold on with a death grip anymore. I think they put in a bunch of new brakes. Eventually, they will probably have to shut it down and rebuild the entire track (maybe after the opening of the TRON clone) like they did at Disneyland several years ago. That ride is still much smoother than it was before the retrack.
Monday appears to be the new, busiest day at Animal Kingdom. We went on a Monday, and got stuck in a two-hour line for the Safari, after getting in line around 11. I know the majority of tourists fly in on a Sunday, and Magic Kingdom used to be their first choice on Monday. Now it seems that Pandora has changed that dynamic, so that many families now flock there on the first day. I would recommend avoiding both MK and AK on Mondays.
With Pandora and the other, upcoming additions coming to WDW, I think that the resort will be the best in the world, once everything is completed. I know that Tokyo Disney has the sterling reputation, but WDW will surpass it in the early 2020s. There is so much to do there now, I can hardly imagine how overwhelming it will be with two new lands and a new 3D ride at DHS, the Epcot upgrade, and a Shanghai clone at the endlessly popular MK. In particular, DHS will soon become a superstar park, possibly surpassing the mighty MK. Disney should soon start selling 12-day park hoppers, because ten days just won't cut it.
At Universal, the Express Pass is really a luxury, not a necessity. At least on a non-holiday weekday. On Thursday and Friday, we breezed into almost every ride, with short posted waits and copious use of single rider lines. Even Skull Island, the newest ride at IOA, was almost a walk on in early afternoon, and we did the ride twice in about 40 minutes. On Saturday, wait times did balloon at IOA, so weekdays are the time to go.
