We drove over 70 miles - one way - to see my OB/GYN when I was trying to get pregnant.

An hour doesn't seem too long for someone you are comfortable with and have a great patient/dr relationship with. Just schedule far enough in advance for well visits and hope for the best on emergency care.

We moved 250 miles from WI to MI 13 years ago, and I still return down there to see my dentist and my scoliosis doctor. Now if it was something that could be urgent, say a heart doctor, I know I would need one closer. Go with your gut, if you really like her, stick with the drive.

I have driven an hour and half for DD. Well worth it!

Pretty much all of my DD's doctors are in Chicago either at Shriners or U of Chicago. We're in a western suburb so it easily takes an hour or more to get to any of these depending on traffic. For me, it's worth the time but I try to time the appointments so that I'm not sitting in Rush Hour traffic. There are plenty of doctors and hospitals around us but I prefer to stick with the best and drive.

An hour wouldn't be so bad most days. But I might also find someone local to see, just in case. You can have more than one doctor.

I easily drive 30 minutes to get my kids to their pulminologist.

I had a great doctor in Los Alamitos when I lived in Marina del Rey.

We're talking about 2 hours on the 405 during normal work hours.

I believe on the East Coast, you could drive through a few states in that time. :lmao:

I had to stop seeing her when I moved even further away. I now see a doc in Beverly Hills as the hospital is Cedars. I am still in shock that my HMO covers care at Cedars. :lovestruc

17 hr drive. Not for myself but for my DD. DD12 has a disease and we take her to the only specialist in the US. He is in Flordia and we live in Pennsylvania. We take her every year and she spends a night or two in the hospital so he can monitor her and adjust her medications. He is always on call and will work with any other doctor or hospital that DD goes to.

Worth every second and penny to us. We thank God everyday for such a caring doctor and his family that allows him to do this.

I would not travel that far for routine, PCP care, and especially not once a month to pick up a prescription. Ask your current doctor for recommendations of someone closer to you!

I would ask if she can recommend anyone closer to you. I don't think I could drive that far for a PCP. For a specialist, I might, although living in NY, we tend to have many good specialists right here so it's usually not too bad. But I dunno, I just wouldn't drive that far for a PCP. I would personally ask for a recommendation, she must know other good physicians in the area, even if they're not from her practice.

I think I would drive to the doctor.

Some of my son's specialists are about 40-45 minutes away but we only go 4 times a year.

If your visits can be limited to a predicatable schedule, I think I'd stay with her. A good doctor is GOLD. However, if it's like a once a week thing, uuughh, it might be too much especially in bad weather.

But, living where I live, it's not unusual to spend a lot of time driving to work, driving to go to a great mall, driving for kids activities that are close to an hour away. So it seems worth it to me to drive for a good doctor.

We travel 35 minutes to our Orthopedic Surgeon down at Johns Hopkins. I love my OB/GYN from my old hometown so I schedule my annual checkups with him when I am in town to visit my Dad. I actually tried to find one locally but can't get an appointment for a new patient with my insurance for a ridiculously long time.

If I had a good doctor, I would make the drive. I already drive almost an hour to some of them already.:thumbsup2

I wouldn't drive. It is a 90 second walk to my doctors. I have never lived anywhere that was more than a mile from my doctor.

Hopefully the practice she is going to (or she herself) will make an exception in regards to the scripts so we won't have to make those monthly trips.. For me personally, that's the biggest issue.. The other doctors (specialists) that I have to see on a more frequent basis are very close to DD's house as well (and staying put) - so with any luck, I won't have to see my PCP all that often..:goodvibes

No idea of the meds you or your family are on, but unfortunately there are a handful that can't legally be called in and the scripts must be picked up at the office. Hope that's not the case for you but there are some.

I moved about a year ago but I drive over an hour to go to our doctors. We had to move for our safety (Crazy lady threatening me and the kids) but we didn't have to give up or friends and doctors!

I agree, a good doctor is worth their weight in gold :thumbsup2! If you've finally found a doctor that you can trust, is knowledgable about your particular health ailments and feel has helped you, then if at all possible you should travel to new location. :goodvibes

Fortunately our GP practice is about 15 minutes away, I have a particluar doctor I usually go to, but also a second choice in practice if she not available. My endo on other hand is 45 minutes, as good ones are far and few. We also have no trouble traveling to some of the best doctors in the world at Georgetown Univ Hosp. or Johns Hopkins (for my Mom), both an hour away, when necessary.

Far as your meds, if maintance, is there any way she could call it in to your local pharmacy or perhaps write your prescription for 90 days? That's what my doctor does and I order via mail thru isnurance company, or sometimes it's cheaper at CVS as they also started offering 90 day discount plan this year. Either way, good luck and I hope it all works out for you! :flower3:
