21 days until vacation and DFIL wants to go.

I need some advice. We are renting points for a studio at BCV's. We have two adults and 2 small children. DFIL called tonight and said maybe he would drive down and spend your vacation with us- we did not invite him. He lives in Indiana. We would like to see him but I dont even know if it is possible. I am sure we could swing it if he brought a small blow-up mattress. Only 4 people are allowed in a studio right? If he is going to stay with us I do not want to sneak him into the room. I would want to do it legal. I dont think DFIL knows how much time and money I have spent on this vacation. He said he will pay his own way. Should I make hime get his own room someplace. Please advise.

The occupancy limits are 4 plus a child under 3. So if one of the kids is under 3, you'd be okay. But I wouldn't want to have that many people in a studio. Plus, you'd have no privacy with your father-in-law in the studio. ugh

Since he'll have a car, he could rent something off site for reasonable. I would get a BCV parking pass for the car (since your family will ride around with him, some, I would imagine). That would make it easier for you and him to come and go at the BCV to do stuff with the grand kids. And if you're not renting a car and using Magical Express, it would be nice to have access to a car to go to the grocery store or do some off-site meals if you want to.

I would check out rates for him at Comfort Inn Lake Buena Vista or Cypress Pointe 1 bedrooms off Hotel Kingdom's site (I think around $60 a night). Both of these places have good locations close to Downtown Disney and not far from BCV. I'm actually planning on staying at Cypress Pointe next spring (as I think it looks charming) before we check into DVC on a Sunday.

DH has an uncle who seems to do this everytime we talk about our up coming vacation.

Fortunately you have the occupany maximums to fall back on. You shouldn't have to scramble at the last minute. If he wants to go, he should do his own work looking for a place to stay, buying tickets, etc.
Not to be mean or rude, but that's really an imposition....inviting yourself along on an expensive vacation at the last minute and saying you'll stay in their room on an inflatable mattress.

As a FIL, I would never do such a thing. Tell him there is no room but you can check to see if something else is available and ask him what his budget would be for a room.

It's late but maybe there is a studio available due to a last minute cancellation that he can rent from someone - either a new or existing ressie. Put the kids in his room and its a blessing in disguise.

Also remember, that your FIL would need to be added to the ressie by the DVC member from whom you've rented the points, renters can not call Member Services directly to make any ressie changes. If you call the member you've rented from, and they call MS and MS allows your FIL to be added, no problem...however, if MS says that you will be "over limit" (perhaps if your your youngest child is over 3 years of age) then you are out of luck and FIL will need to make other arrangements. Also, you'll need to realize that the resort will not provide any extra bedding for the air mattress...and it will be pretty cramped in a studio with an air mattress even if Member Services allows it.
