I need to get my 20 yo daughter to the Sanford airport for a 7:00 am flight. We will be staying at the Dolphin.
Would you arrange for a car to take her or drive her yourself?

We have a flight out of MCO at 10 am and DH and DS refuse to get up and leave the hotel when we need to take her so I would have to drive back to Disney to get them.

My DH thinks I should just hire a car to take her. I am a little concerned about safety and knowing for sure they would be at the Dolphin by 4:30 am to take her.

I think I should drive her and come back for DH & DS. I figured I could be back to the Dolphin by 6:30 am

LOL, I'd take her and stay, and let DH and DS figure out for themselves how to get there. I mean, really, how much of a sacrifice is it to go a couple hours earlier than planned? Tell them they can take a nap at the airport. :lmao:

Honestly, I think she'd be fine in a car. Lots of young women travel for business and take cabs everyday. Check into a car service too which might cost a little more, but you might feel better about it.

Has she traveled alone before? Would she be comfortable? If the car didn't show by 4:30am, you could always jump in the car and take her.

I would let a 20 year old take a car service to Sanford, personally.

However, it would be cheaper for DH/DS to take a cab to MCO. You can drive your daughter to Sanford, and meet them at MCO.

Yes, she has travelled alone in Europe for 2 weeks. My concern is mostly being in a car alone with most likely a male drive at those wee (dark) hours of the morning.

We have a car service that we use for my daughter (lives in Windermere, works at Disney) to go back and forth from the airport when she comes home. We have been using them about three years now and have no complaints. They have picked her up in the wee hours of the morning for early flights and brought her home in the late late hours of the night after flights.

But seriously, I would tell you husband and son too bad - time to get up and go.

A "taxi" is different than a "car service". I would be less likely to put her in a taxi, but a reputable car service, absolutely. They will show up with a beautiful, clean town car, in a suit. Very professional.

Your daughter will probably love the experience, actually! Give her wings, mama......

(edited to add, I have a daughter too and of course we worry about them, but this is a very safe situation. Sometimes our drivers have been women too! Perhaps you could request one, I don't know)

Take her....

Tell DH and company that they can either get in the car with you or get a cab.

The cab or car service to MCO is dramatically cheaper then Sanford.

Having them (DH & DS) take a car service is a good idea - we could book a round trip since we will need it from MCO to Disney when we arrive. We are only renting the car the last day we are there so we can head up to Universal and catch dinner at AKL easier.

I was going to suggest this - and most towncar companies will do a free 30 minute grocery stop on the way!

You can then drive your dd to sanford and double back to MCO in time for your flight.

If she was able to travel alone in Europe for two weeks, she can take a cab/car service to the airport alone :thumbsup2. That being said, I think that you will be awake anyway at 4:30 to see her off and you might as well hop in the car and take her yourself.

That's what I told DH!

He is worried that I won't make it back to pick them up. I originally had planned to move to a hotel near MCO for the last night but decided against it.

Goodness. Tell him to put his Big Boy pants on and call a cab. He's giving the rest of us husbands a bad name! ;)

I'm the mom of a 20 yo dd myself. I'd set up a towncar for her and never think twice about it. She"s an adult.

Maybe once you tell your husband how expensive it will be to take a cab to sanford, he will get up early and take her. People are reporting one way trip prices are $130 to Sanford plus tip.

You'll be back in plenty of time! It's about a 2 hour round trip and you'll be back at the Dolphin by 6:30 or 7:00 am. You can then leave at 7:30-8:00 for MCO. However ... I do think that staying at a hotel around MCO would be a better choice. The drive is shorter to Sanford and you'll be right there at MCO when you get back to your family. Pick a place with free breakfast so you can grab a bite to eat after you get back and before you head out for your flight, otherwise you'll be running-running-running from 4:30 to 10:00 am when YOUR flight leaves.

I would book that last night at a hotel either at MCO or closeby. You can get to bed, get up and drive your dd to SFO, and then return to MCO...much easier and quicker. You get to sleep a bit longer in the morning as well.
Have your last night at WDW and check out and head to the airport...get a decent night's sleep, take your dd and be back at MCO and have breakfast with the slug patrol.

Will your daughter quietly get up go, get her stuff and go to front of the hotel and wait for the car service while you sleep? Let her take a car service.

Will you get up with her, go downstairs with her and wait until she gets picked up? Then you might as well drive her. I doubt you'll be getting back to sleep.

Switching to a MCO airport zone hotel makes a lot of sense for reasons given by the pp.
