Welcome!
Welcome to the second trip report in a series of trips for us this year!

If you are new to my trip reports, I'm Ariella the planner and schemer of all of our trips. My husband and I have our 20th wedding anniversary this year. So, we planned a few trips for the year. This is the second trip for us this year This one was the whole family! Our first trip was a short cruise just Andy and I. Andy and I had never been on a cruise before. ANY cruise. So, if you want to hear about a first timers perspective, you can read that trip here.

Things to look forward to in this trip report:
 • A quick College Tour
 • 3 jam packed days
 • The best morning in Animal Kingdom
 • Park Hopping at it's best
 • Seeing some of the attractions that are closing soon

Where
This trip is 2 parts, first we are visiting SCAD for a college tour for Morgan. This was our first time in Savannah.
https://flic.kr/p/2r2EjFr]Untitled

And then we head to Disney where we stayed at Caribean Beach in a room with a 5th sleeper.

When
This trip started as us just going to see Savannah for Morgan, and I managed to convince Andy that we were already so "close" to Disney, we "HAD" to go.... We live in the greater Philadelphia area, so going to Savannah was going to need us to fly down, so we decided to do that over Spring Break, which for us is alwasys the week after Easter. So, this was the tail end of the Spring Break crowds.

Up Next the ever popular Travel Day!

Travel Day: Tuesday, April 22nd

Andy and I had to work this day. It was a long day to get through. It had been stressful at work and I was ready for a break! Plus just working and know you were leaving was just torchure! Good thing I get to do it again for our California trip. The girls were already on Spring Break so they packed up carry on bags and showered during the day while Andy and I managed to get through the day.

Finally at 3:00 we logged off and called an uber.

Untitled by Ariella Saucier,

Waiting for Uber, Morgan totally doesn't look like Andy said look out like you are waiting for the car...
by Ariella Saucier,

We are about 20 minutes from the Philly airport, so taking an uber is the cheapest way to go these days. (minus someone dropping us off) Our uber came and we had no issues getting to the airport. Once we got to the drop off area, our Uber driver waited for someone to pull out to pull in to get us closer to the curb. And there was a person directing traffic and she was very mad that he did this. I thought she was going to yell at him, but thankfully she did not. We got out of car with no issues and went to check in.

We checked in. Needed to add on my TSA pre-check to my boarding pass. But added with no issues and headed to security. Highly recommending getting TSA pre-check! It makes all the difference, especially in Orlando!!!

By 4:00 we had checked in at airport and headed to security

by Ariella Saucier, on Flickr
There was barely a line at TSA Pre-check. And took no time to get through. Thankfully. You just never know with the Philly airport.

We had to go through TSA Pre-check at Terminal C. So we walked down to Terminal E and stopped for an early dinner at Chickie & Pete’s. This one hasn’t really a full restaurant, it was more like an aisle that they added it to. But Chickie & Pete's is a local staple.

We ordered drinks to start.
I ordered the Big Oyster, Isabel Sour Beer

Untitled by Ariella Saucier, on Flickr
This was not very sour but hit the spot all the same.

Andy ordered a Gin and Tonic
Gwen Water
Morgan a Lemonade

And to share we ordered, Crab Fries

Untitled
Chickie and Pete is known for the crab fries. They are basically fries with old bay seasoning on them served with warm cheese sauce. They are pretty good.

Buffalo Wings

Untitled
These were your standard buffalo wings. Also hit the spot!

And Chicken Tenders

Untitled
Also your standard chicken tenders but also hit the spot.

Untitled
We shared all of the food and it was enough to get us through the evening.

The weekend before was one of the first really warm weekends. And today was still kind of sticky. So the airport was slightly warm, like they hadn't turned on the air conditioning yet almost and Chickie and Petes wasn’t hot but not cool.

NFL draft was happening and was on the TVs. We talked about the try outs and stuff and just relaxed from the rush of getting to the airport.

About 5:00, we headed to our Terminal. This terminal was the last one and super far away. We had never been in it. Turns out it was for smaller planes.

Untitled

Untitled
I will say Philly does have some nice art work throughout the terminals.

Untitled

About 5:30 our plane had arrived
Untitled
We weren’t sure if we would have to walk outside. It looked like one side was for smaller planes but still had a jet way and then the other was for really small planes that you would just walk out on the tarmac for. We were on the smaller side and at first Morgan was worried about having to walk up stairs. (she does not like heights) But then the plane showed up and she was fine with it.

It was finally time to board,
Untitled
We had to check our carry on bag since the overhead was too small. And they took the bags as we walked out.
Untitled

Untitled

Untitled
Andy and I got alot of humor out of the small plane. the girls didn't understand...

Andy was happy with the leg room!

Untitled

Untitled
We were ready to go!!!

Everyone was on the plane before departure time, so we pulled out of the gate early!
Untitled
It was so strange, this terminal had busses and cars parked around the cars. It was like we were in a different airport all together.

Out flight was very turbulent. But uneventful otherwise.

We landed in Savannah just before 9:00
Savannah airport was super cute. At 9:00 PM there was NO ONE in the airport. It was basically closed for the night. It felt like it was midnight.
Untitled
I mean how cute is this area!!! It kind of reminded me of French Quarter resort lobby.

Untitled
The piano reminded me of titanitc where the guy was playing while the ship was sinking.

We collected our bags and headed to get an uber. The drive from the airport to down town was about 20 minutes. We got to the hotel, checked in and went straight to bed! It was a long day with working and then travelling and we wanted to be well rested for the tour tomorrow.

Up next a tour of Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD)
How will Mogan like the school?

Joining along for your trip!

My husband and I flew on a smaller airplane a couple years ago in the very back row and oh my gosh, the turbulence was insane! The Savannah airport is absolutely adorable though!

The Savannah airport is one of my favorite airports EVER!! I always say it looks like POFQ too
It really is the cutest. I think Morgan feels better about possibly having to fly to school with that airport being smaller.

Joining along for your trip
Welcome!!!!

My husband and I flew on a smaller airplane a couple years ago in the very back row and oh my gosh, the turbulence was insane! The Savannah airport is absolutely adorable though!
Thankfully we were basically over the wings. Good to know, try not to sit in the back!

Bare with me, I know most of you are here for Disney stuff but it feel weird to completely skip over a whole day.

SCAD Day: Wednesday, April 23rd

We had to be at the admissions building by 9:30. So, we all got up around 7:30 and got ready for the day. We had to check out of the room as we weren’t sure we would be back in time for check out. So, we had packed a carryon bag with what we needed for just this day. We literally used the room to sleep.

Morgan spotted a school bus outside our window.

We brought our bags down and they let us keep our bags in a conference room while we were gone.

We headed out of the room around 8:45.

Stopped around the corner for coffee at a local coffee shop.

The Coffee shop had some good looking pastries and roasted their own coffee beans. So, we chose wisely. It was really cute inside but I didn't take photos, I didn't have coffee yet.

We didn’t get any food just 2 coffees and headed on our way.

We slowly walked to the admissions building.

We past a few of the school buildings and squares.

We would come back to this one, to do the "SCAD Experience"

We took our time and tried to get a feel for Savannah as a city as we made our way.

It wasn't a far walk but it was a beautiful one for sure. It was a Wednesday morning, so it was fairly peaceful walk. We did see a handful of people walking there dogs, for what I assume was before they started working for the day.

We made it to the admissions build just a little after 9:00. We checked in and relaxed until the tour started. The reception room was really cool.

Palm Tree Lamp
I personally loved the Palm Tree Lamp. By far the fanciest Palm tree lamp I have ever seen.

Lamp

They did the usual presentation in the room and then broke us up into 2 tour bus groups. And we heeded to our first building.

We got on the bus and the girls headed straight to the back like we were at Disney. The bus felt like a Disney Bus.

First stop was the Fashion Building. We saw a fabric printing machine and some student work in the lobby.

This was "Fred" and he printed fabric for the kids. I mean that is pretty cool.

Next up was the Animation Building.

Lobby[/url']https://flic.kr/p/2r2ybuW]Lobby

This was the lobby for the Animation Buidling! You see the imagineering sign?

Inside was Game on! And that TV display was showing a student animation project that won a student emmy!
Lobby

Classes must have just gotten out or getting ready to start, there was a lot more kids wandering around this building. It had life to it and was pretty fun to see.

Next up was the Industrial Design B
uilding complete with internship program work and a 3D printer laby.

https://flic.kr/p/2r2yY9B

There was art piece that the students met. The buidlings were impressive.

After was a peak at the dorms, which were literally the nicest dorms I had ever seen. All freshman are in one area and are all suites. 2 double rooms, living room area and private bathroom broken up by sinks, toilet and shower rooms.

After that we took a quick walk through dining hall and headed back to the admission building.
Cafateria

We were done with the tour just a little before noon.We hit the bathrooms and filled up water bottle before heading out. Girls loved the Monkey Lamp in the bathroom. We headed to the SCAD experience that they recommended we see.
Untitled

We went to do the SCAD experience. We weren’t allowed to take pictures or film, but it was like Enchanted Tales with Belle but the history of the school. It was pretty inspiring. And really showcased how creative they are.

It was just before 1:00 by the time we were done and we were ready for lunch!!! We headed to a pizza place that we happened to walk past on our way to the tour. Mushroom Pizza. We had no idea if it would be good but we figured it would be quick.

It ended up being a sit down place and took longer than we had wanted but it was delicious.

We all got waters and diet cokes. The waitress suggested the Cheesy Bread and it did not disappoint.
Untitled

And we decided to do one large pizza half BBQ chicken (Gwen’s pick) and Pesto Tomato (Morgan’s pick)
Untitled

Untitled
Pizza was great and very filling. While eating lunch, we talked about what Morgan thought of the school. She said she really liked it and was her top school so far.

After lunch, we checked out school store and then headed to pick up our bags and head to the airport to get a rental car.

Up next Travel Day Part 2, Road Trip!!

Travel Day Part 2, Road Trip!

We called an uber back to the airport. I was intrested to see how busy the airport was during the day and it was not busy at all. We had no problem getting our rental car.
Untitled

We got our car and were on the road around 2:30

Georgia was pretty boring for driving, but no traffic, which was good. Our car was soooo dirty!!!
Untitled
I mean look at the windshield!!!

We crossed into Florida around 4:30
Untitled
Gwen commented on the number of Coco Beach billboards we past. We broke out some old games, like the alphabet game and a “new” one, from bluey, finding colored cars in rainbow order.

An hour later, we Stopped at the famous Bucee’s

This was our first time stopping here. It was def an experience!

Alot of Bucee's merch that we weren't intrested in, since it's not our place.

We tested out the “cleanest” bathrooms. Grabbed some drinks and snacks. And decided on a Brisket Sandwich.

Morgan choose a beef jerky, I grabbed a beaver nuggets, and ranch crackers. We all tried the brisket sandwich in the parking lot, as we didn’t want to get anything on the rental, even if the car was already dirty! The stop helped break up the trip.

Untitled

We all agreed that the brisket sandwich was good for a gas station but we have had better. the Beaver Nuggets were the really good! It was a little overwhelming in there! It really was giant inside!!!

We were back on the road around 5:50.
Passed a rest stop with a million signs saying no parking, which was hilarious! Both girls thought it was hilarious.
Untitled by Ariella Saucier, on Flickr

We did hit traffic around Jacksonville. But finally arrived at Orlando Airport around 7:45.
Untitled b

We were glad to have gotten there! We found car rental drop off and it was SUPER easy. They scanned our reservation paper and said we were all set. We grabbed our stuff and headed into the airport to get to departures to get an uber. We were in our uber by 8:10.

And had made it to our room around 8:45.

We quickly made ourselves at home.

r

We ended up in the Trinadad area again. I wasn't too happy about it since it was so far from the main area. But we were there 3 days, It didn't feel like worth goingto the front to try and change. We also had booked a 5th sleeper room, so I am sure that had something to do with the location.

The room worked out well, though. And the girls were happy to not share a bed.

It was Andy’s birthday today. And he wanted a drink.

I laid out the traditional Tinkerbell PJs for the girls in the bathroom before we headed out.

So, Andy and I headed to main area to get a snack and drinks at the pool bar
Fireworks were going off as we walked over. It was a beautiful evening, cool. And the walk over, I felt like we were home. Cheesy I know...

Andy and I both ordered
Pineapple Mule
Uncle Nearest 1884 Small Batch Whiskey, Hella Cocktail Co. Ginger Bitters, Pineapple Juice, Fever Tree Ginger Beer, and Mint
This was decent but it was different with the whiskey.

Morgan requested Caribbean Chips and Dip
Caribbean-spiced Chili, Pimento Cheese, Pico de Gallo, Peppers, and Crispy Tortillas

And I decided to also order the
Loaded Fries
French Fries topped with Chili, Cotija, and Pico de Gall

I have no pictures of either, it was the typical end of night not thinking about pictures yet.

This took longer than it should have. (This should have been a sign for us later in the trip but we didn't see it... ) Andy finished his drink before we even had the food and almost got a second but decided against it. We finally got the food and brought it back to the room.

Morgan enjoyed the late night snack and I realized we weren’t given silverware and the loaded fries were kind of hard to eat without them. So, I eneded up just saving most of it.

We settled in for the night and went to bed fairly early. It had been a long day! We were lights out just after 10:00!

Next up our First Park Day, Post Birthday Day for Andy

SCAD is lovely! I hope Morgan gets her top choice for schools. And those are nice dorms! I'm glad you showed them because I was getting ready to ask about dorms vs. living in an apartment. And it's really nice that Morgan can fly out of a small/lower traffic airport to get home for breaks.

Buccees!!!!!! I am OBSESSED with that place. And they are finally building one in VA. But I just heard they are paying the store manager $225,000 a year! I'm thinking of giving up this whole professor thing and going to work for Buccees!

Was the pizza place Mellow Mushroom?? If so, it's a chain. We have one here in Blacksburg and I love it! In fact, just took all of my SM students there last week for a good-bye for the summer dinner.

Seriously!!!! I am sure being a store manager has it's own stresses!!! We couldn't have a Bucee's in NJ, We don't have the space! We are going to see at least 2 more art schools, MICA and MassArt in the fall. But I think SCAD is it...

The dorms were super nice. Sounds like a lot of kids live off campus at somepoint. It is easy to do since it's in a city. But it's required for freshman. But I feel like you need to stay in a dorm for 2 years. It's living on your own with training wheels.

And yes, I think it was... It was super fun.

I'm so glad Morgan liked SCAD - I have a lot of friends who went there (I'm in NC, so not too far). I'm an engineer so it wasn't ever on my radar but everyone I know who went there loved it! And Mellow Mushroom is always a great choice :-)

The only thing going against SCAD is it is in the South and Morgan doesn't love the heat. But I think she will tollerate it. It really looked like a playground for art students! I wish I had gone there. Ha

Yay!!! You started. Can't wait to hear all about it. Mellow Mushroom started at University of Georgia in 1974, the year I was born. For the longest time they just had about 3 locations around Atlanta so I grew up on Mellow Mushroom. It's always so good. The pretzel app was sometimes my meal. Also, the Uncle Nearest distillery is about 20 minutes from my house in Tennessee. They make a bourbon caramel sauce that we get to pour over vanilla ice cream. So happy she liked SCAD. It's such an amazing school in a great city. Hoping Andy's birthday disney day was a fun one!

Good start to part #2! Sounds like the travel from home, Savannah, Disney went pretty smooth! We went to Savannah 2 years ago and I really loved it! Such a cool vibe. We could tell the art school was a big part of that area. Anxious to read how your time at Disney went!

I really loved my time at SCAD. I lived at Oglethorpe House (O-House) my first year and then moved off-campus to an apartment on Jones Street. I miss Savannah so much!

Wow, I’ve never been to Savannah - it looks so beautiful!! Looks like your trip is off to a good start. I love Caribbean Beach but feel like it’s always the luck of the draw with where you end up.

We have 2 more schools to go see but I think SCAD is going to be her top choice!

Thanks! First installment of our Disney day coming up next!

What did you major in?

love Caribbean Beach but feel like it’s always the luck of the draw with where you end up.
It is, but I will say, for us being farther away from the main area wasn't that bad. We don't go to the main area often.

Park Day! Hollywood Studios, Early Entry & more!

I mentioned before, Andy's birthday was the day before but it was hijacked by a college tour. So we said today could be his "birthday" as well. He requested as a post birthday day to go to Hollywood Studios first. So we were headed there this morning.

We decided to rope drop Rise of Resistance. And Early Entry was 8:30 AM. So, I said we should shoot to get to HS around 8:00 AM. This is what we were starting with for the day.
Untitled

We set our alarm for 6:30 AM. And we all dragged our butts out of bed.

I snapped photo of Tinkerbell Gifts around 6:30 which means that is when we finally got moving.
Untitled

I went with Muppets themed shirts for the day. We ended up getting lots of comments on on the shirts.

Untitled by Ariella Saucier, on Flickr
Andy and Morgan ended up matching. And I got Morgan Mulan ears since I got Gwen Muppets ears. the advent of the elastic ears has given Morgan a chance to ahve some. (she didn't like headbands with her glasses)

Untitled by Ariella Saucier, on Flickr
I got Gwen the I'm just here for muppets shirt since it is her favorite. And then ordered the ears to round out the outfit. And I got a throw back to my childhood..... Pigs in Space shirt!!! I loved thst skit when I was young!

I made crappy coffee in the room to drink a little black. I needed at least a little while getting ready. We managed to leave the room around 7:40. Untitled by Ariella Saucier, on Flickr
Headed out of our room and walked to the Skyliner.

We stopped at the Jofferies by the Skyliner before hopping on. (This was the best idea they had!!! And it helps that we weren't near the main area, We could just get our coffee here)

Gwen modeled her fit while we waited for our coffee.

Andy and I both got Iced coffeesUntitled by Ariella Saucier, on Flickr
Shakin’ Jamaica for me and just cold brew for Andy

Untitled by Ariella Saucier, on Flickr
We were loading onto a Skyliner cab just before 8:00.

Morgan does not like the Skyliner but tolerates it. But each time we take it, she tolerates it less and less. This morning it didn’t really stop, so she survived fairly unscaltheed.

We made it into the park at 8:12 AM and we headed straight Galaxy’s Edge!
Untitled by Ariella Saucier, on Flickr
Passed by Gertie.....

And then we were in Galaxy’s Edge at 8:16 AM. They scanned us as we went in for being a park guest.

Entering into the que for Rise of Resistance at 8:18. We walked all the way through the que only stopping in the room literally right before they bring you in to see BB8.

In room with BB8 at 8:29, so 11 minute "wait" which I literally wouldn't call it ia wait. It is literally just how long it takes to walk lesuirely through the que!

Love the Rey hologram!

We were able to be right up front with Akbar in the transport. He is my favorite. And got a selfie with the storm troopers.

Also while on our trasport, Morgan noticed something that didn't belong.

It's funny, once we saw the fire alarm we couldn't not see it. But never noticed before that.

I tried to get a shot of Morgan right as we dropped, as she hates that part. But I think I snapped this before we actually dropped.

We were off the ride before early entry was over, It was 8:51.

We headed into Toy Storyland to try and get on one more ride before non-guests were allowed on rides.
Untitled by Ariella Saucier, on Flickr

We headed into Toy Story Mania at 8:55.

Morgan scored the highest in the family:

And then Andy and Gwen got.

Andy just lost to Morgan and Gwen actually beat me!!

by Ariella Saucier, on Flickr
Morgan got best in vehicle, she was super excited about that! Although some one had already scored pretty high for the day!

We left Toy Story Mania at 9:20. We pit stopped at the bathrooms on the way to our next stop.

We headed into Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway at 9:25. The wait was posted at 30 minutes and we didn’t have a LL for it. So, we just headed in.

We made it into the pre-show room at 9:47 AM. We did start outside but it was moving fairly quickly.

Untitled
I will say the wait after the pre-show room is a little torturous! But we survived.

And we were really ready to ride at 9:53 AM.So, almost exactly half an hour.

This ride is always so fun.

It was just about 10, when we got off.

I love the photo of Walt that they did on the way out.

It was prefect timing, as it was time for our first Lightening Lane!

Up next more fun in Hollywood Studios!
