20th and final year of Osbourne lights

I am so crushed by this news. I was lucky enough to have 3 trips to WDW in '10, '12 and '14 and this was always a highlight for me on our trips. Love the music, the snow(p) and just being immersed in the experience. Hopefully, Dis execs will find a new location. I think it would look awesome going up Hollywood Blvd and even down Sunset. Could you imagine the TOT dec'ed out in the lights blinking to Trans Siberian Orchestra? Or maybe they could move it to Disney Springs?

Well, here's to hoping.

What a shame. I don't think that we will be able to go this year but had hoped to go next year and in large part to see the lights. Now I don't see any reason to go during such a busy time.

I wonder if anything will be done with the lights? I would travel elsewhere to see them. They'll probably just disappear though.

I think having it on TOT would not be good for the theme. Disney springs I could see but at this time it looks like the partnership has ended.

I think this is a big shame, was really excited to see them again on our next Christmas trip. Between this and the fact that Aladdin is being closed to make way for a Frozen musical in California Adventure, I cannot take anymore this week!

I loved them when the backlot was actually open, and it made sense, since you could walk all over and immerse yourself in it. Not so much with after the backlot closed.

Sounds like maybe it was a 20 year contract?

Disney has officially announced that this will be the final year of the light show at DHS to make way for new experience. It doesn't sound like the lights will be moving anywhere else either. A dessert party package is available for the light show but is not the frozen one that was held last year.

Totally bummed about this...this is one of the most spectacular experiences I've ever witnessed...unbelievable
- beautiful - absolutely amazing. If you weren't in the Christmas Spirit before seeing this, you certainly were afterwards! So sad.

Many changes coming to my beloved WDW as they end some old favorites to make room for new and exciting attractions but to me, this is one I will miss terribly. I just hope that whatever they replace this with is anywhere near the total immersion of color, music and shear joy and beauty of this spectacle.

This is the worst Disney related news I can possibly imagine. I know it's a rumor every year, but this board has always given me the confidence to reassure people it is just that, a rumor, and that worst case they will find a home for them somewhere else. I don't understand why they would just get rid of something so popular. It is truly my favorite thing in all of WDW. I'd rather never ride ToT again than lose the lights.

 I never got a chance to see them, I was hoping for two more years, or at least them being moved to Disney Springs!

That's just depressing news. I can see if they temporarily suspended it for a few years to find somewhere else to place them, but to get rid of them entirely? Sad. The only silver lining for me is we are taking my mom & dad this year with us and they are huge Christmas people and always wanted to see the lights, so glad the trip is this year instead of next year. But sorry for those going next year and beyond.

I'm gratified that I have a trip planned to see the lights in November, but I'm very disappointed that it will be the last time. Aren't there pavilions in EPCOT that are empty & waiting to be filled with something like this? I don't exactly know how much real estate is available in Odyssey or WOL, but surely a lot!

This makes me so glad that we're taking our little one this year... but so sad that it won't be there in future years! It'll be the first and last time we see the lights.

Really sucks, but it was to be expected over the next few years. Was really hoping they could find a spot for them, oh well. With December getting more and more crowded, decorations being taken away, I don't even know if I want to go during that time anymore. I think my next trip will be early September, I am jealous at those wait times. But maybe with them taking away the lights the rest of DHS will be decorated a little more than usual. I really want to book a last minute trip and see these for the last time though

I am heartbroken. We have been debating whether or not to take a trip the first week of December but I guess with this news we are obligated to go bid them farewell

I am sad that the contract has ended and the lights will not be around anymore. However, after being around to see them every year, I will remember them the way they used to be on residential street...it was just so much better in my opinion:)

I really wasn't that impressed by them when I saw them last year. I mean yes, lots of lights and music. But also so ridiculously crowded you couldn't actually move around and enjoy them anyway. Plus there are so many places to enjoy light shows over the Christmas season, it didn't live up to the hype for me.

This is such a great thing to go see at the Holidays, especially since they have the Very Merry Christmas Party at MK so often now, this was such a nice experience that didn't cost anything extra, require a fast pass, and was zero hassel, you could just wander around at you own pace and take it all in. We went to WDW at Christmas time last year, in 2011, and a few other times and the Osborne lights weren't just "a highlight of the trip", for us it's part of the reason we go at Christmas, and it's a shame they can't be moved to Hollywood Boulevard and the Chinese Theater or somewhere else instead... it's not as if there's going to be a whole lot to do at DHS the next few years.

Hope Animal Kingdom's new night time show has some type of Holiday enhancement, but the Osborne lights will certainly be missed by me and my family, this is very disappointing news to me

Hopefully, Dis execs will find a new location.

In the comments the official Disney Response is "there are no current plans to offer them at a different location." Granted this could be semantics and they are just not offering the Osborn Lights anymore, but another light show could be possible but I wouldn't count on that. I do agree that I would love to see Hollywood Blvd decked out with lights ending the night with a fireworks show.

This seems to be another sign that Streets of NY is not surviving, for those that held out hope that it would.
