It is presently boarded up, and I assume they're up to something behind the boards.... Anyone know any info?

Filling it in for "future development". Nothing official as far as its use, not even any halfway reliable rumors, except for the persistent "Fire Mountain".

Check out This Thread for some interesting rumors regarding the 20,000 Leagues Lagoon.

saw it last week from dumbo... lots of dirt, it appeared to be filled-in... heavy equipment parked back there... the old back rock walls were gone...

They did file a "notice of commencement" form or whatever at the county office. Something is going to happen, but it doesn't say exactly what.

But wouldn't they need to file a notice of commencement even to just fill in the lagoon?

If there is a sub doing the work, then yes for sure. I'm not sure if they do it as a maintenence item on their own if they have to file with the county or not.

Yes. A notice of commencement has to be filed when starting any permited work. Demolition of the lagoon would require a permit.

Whether you all choose to believe it or not. They are filling it in. It has been announced by Disney, and is already in process and should be complete by November.

It seems strange that WDW will just have an empty area there. I wonder if Disney will just put in some plants or something to fill it in? It'll be awfully bare there if they don't.

The way it use to be, it's a shame they had to do this, I loved this ride.

I keep hearing about the Fire Mountain ride. What is that? Is it some kind of darkride they are thinking about building?

:( So, does the Little Mermaid still have her cove, or did Eisner fill that in with dirt, too?
