I've got "Bridezilla" on in the background while I'm DISing and as usual, it's cracking me up.. Some of these brides are sooooooo far over the top! :rotfl:

So just for fun - let's say you had your "perfect" wedding planned and something happened where you had to cut your costs dramatically.. What and where would you cut?

Your rings?
Your dress?
Number of attendants?
Invitations?
Number of guests?
Flowers?
Photographer?
Venue?
Food?
Beverages?
Music?

Since this really did happen - the flowers, the photographer, the dress and the venue. We ended up in a park, with silk bouquets I made, the photographers were two dear friends and my dress was off the rack - non wedding. We have been together 14 years. None of those things made a difference or mattered in the long run! :)

All of the above

Well, DH and I have been married for 33 years, and the one thing I wish we hadn't cut on was a professional photographer. We gave one of my brothers an instamatic and several rolls of film - that's it!

To me, the number of guests and the venue are the big costs that can be cut easily.

I would probably consider cutting out all of it and go get married at the JoP and have a decent celebration/reception.

My attitude: There is NO reason whatsoever (!!!) to buy a wedding dress when you can rent one. RENT THE DRESS! I'm going to make a Tshirt that says, "Rent the dress." I was watching "Say yes to the Dress" on that cable channel and one girl spent like $15,000 on her dress. I was like "Sucker."

My mom was an amazing seamstress, so for my first wedding I got my sleeveless wedding gown in the Bargain Room at Montgomery Wards for $17 and my mom added sleeves and a few other touches that turned the dress into something absolutely stunning! She made my sister's gown from scratch - all white satin - and it was gorgeous!!

If I ever did it again, I think those things are all extra's that can be done without. It's about the marriage, not the wedding.

I could've done without some of my guests....;)

Probably my dress.

I got married in a $99 David's Bridal dress I got the weekend before my wedding.
My ceremony cost $259 including a DVD and photo pack.

..did I mention I got married in Las Vegas?

I loved it. It was much more ME.
The whole trip (food and wedding included) was about $1750 for us both, for the week.

Seeing as how I LOVE to vacation and hate attention, my DH knew this was much more my style and so that is how we did it. We had a blast and I don't have any regrets- I can't imagine spending as much as those girls on Bridezilla do!!

Rings would be hard to cut back on because my uncle is a jeweler and would get us a good deal. Wouldn;t be able to get any cheaper, he might actually make my wedding band.

Dress? Maybe, I kinda like the idea of wearing my mom's dress though, so wouldn't get much cheaper than that.

I don't think I could cut back on attendants, but I only plan on having 4 girls. Besides, don't they usually have to buy their own dresses and things? That doesn't really effect your bottom line.

Invitations definitely, number of guests only if they hadn't been invited yet. I could never "uninvite" someone. Flowers would also be a cut back for me, I really don't care much for flowers. Besides, the place I want to get married in is already very pretty, it doesn't need much decoration.

Photographer, no way. I want professional photos done that look nice. I might cut back on the package I get, but I want a photographer.

Venue I would compromise on, drinks also. Food absolutely not. People remember the food at a wedding, I don't want people going home saying "She had such terrible food, I couldn't eat a thing". Music is also uncuttable. I want my guests to have a good time.

All in all, it looks like I'm screwed if I ever need to cut back the cost of my wedding. There wouldn't be much room for me to budge if I needed to.

My idea of a perfect wedding...was getting married on the way to Florida.

Unfortunately, my grandmom convinced me to have at least a small wedding.
So I did do the minimal.
But if I couldn't afford that. I could have eliminated everything but the rings, and the honeymoon.

My parents have been married for 34 yrs and when my sister and I got married the only thing that had strong feelings about (aside from the ceremony) were the photographers. They let a friend take pics at their wedding and they were terrible. They really don't have any wedding photographs and to this day it still bothers them.

I'd skimp on all except the photographer.

I didn't have one at my wedding. It is the ONLY thing I regret.
We got married on a budget.... VERY SMALL budget. I don't think we spent 250 TOTAL including my dress (which was 50 bucks! LOL).

I'd have a photographer....
