2022 Dream Trip Help

My fiancé and I are planning our next trip back to WDW for Jan/Feb 2022, specifically to see everything the 50th anniversary has to offer. We definitely want to do the dining plan, and stay for 6 nights/ 7 days (probs sun-sat).

We also want to stay Deluxe. This will be our first Disney trip after our wedding, and it will probably be like a second honeymoon.

We always said we’d stay at Beach Club, and stay on rented DVC points, but now I’m torn on a few things.

1. I’m worried about renting DVC after seeing the fall out of everything concerning COVID. I’m afraid I would not get a refund if something similar.
2. I stayed at BWI last year and fell in love!

Do we continue with the dream on Beach Club on points, or look into other options? What do you guys think?

If BCV is your dream, then go for your dream. I've stayed at both multiple times and love them both with an edge to BWand I'm probably in the minority. But I've never been at one and stared longingly across the water wishing I was at the other one. So since you've done BWV, give BCV a chance and decide for yourself which you prefer. I think there's a very good chance you'll love them both as well.

As far as worried about getting your money back if theres another pandemic, that's just a chance you have to take when you rent DVC points. Some quick math, you'll be paying ~$350/night. Guess it depends on what room rates are during that time but only you know if saving money is worth the gamble.

We will still rent points moving forward. I would say it is a personal decision if you are ok with the risk. That being said I do think the gap has narrowed as far as the actual savings with renting vs direct. I would price it out and make the best decision for you. I give a slight edge to BCV over BW but in your case hands down BCV as I think experiencing new resorts is awesome

BCV is my absolute favorite and I've stayed at numerous DVC resorts but I have never ever rented points for the very reasons you are seeing now. Way, way too much commitment and risk for me. I have also never stayed anywhere without a discount. I would say, continue with your dream and attempt to book through WDW with a discount. If you can't get BCV with a discount, I would consider anything in the EP area. I'm not a huge fan of BWI only because we have had numerous noise issues there, however I would never hesitate to stay at BC, YC, BCV or BWV. They are all wonderful, IMHO.

I'm not planning a dream trip per se but I've been thinking very similar thoughts about next year. I have a July trip to Disneyland that I am most likely canceling whether they're open or not so now I'm fantasizing about next year. Plus I keep thinking about the people who rented points and are out that money or at minimum fighting battles. I feel bad for them.

I also love BWI but I have never stayed at BC. I would price it out; it won't be exact for 2022 but you can get an idea. If you can go during lower priced weeks and get some type of discount see if you can swing it without renting points. Or you can also split the difference - BWI for a few days with a discount then BC on points for a few days. That's what I'm thinking right now for the next time we go. Less risk.

I have rented points many times. Candidly, I won't rent points again until there is a vaccine or treatment for Covid, unless the owner would allow a cancelation. I believe the virus will circle back, and the chances of closures and exposure will be too high for my comfort.
As far as BW vs BC, I feel the same as NicoleLarson. I've never stayed at one, and was sorry that I wasn't at the other. Love them both.

I am a DVC owner (not at beach club). It seems BC points rent at a higher price point than other resorts due to popularity and its wonderful amenities. To be safe in terms of availability, you’d probably have to line up with an owner and rent right at the 11 month window if you can. With COVID and chances of future waves I would be hesitant to rent points. If you do rent: be clear with the owner about the nature of the points. Are they banked? Borrowed? When do they expire? Will owner allow you to rebook if availability allows? Most DVC rentals are non-refundable. I would prepare for cash unless by the time you need to rent in 2021 a vaccine is out. That’s just my opinion, thankfully you have plenty of time to wait and see how this all pans out before you need to make a decision!

Me too. We own a small DVC contract and we’re going for 7 nights in late 2021. We only have enough points for 4 nights and instead of borrowing points or renting from someone else, I’m going to book the remaining 3 nights in cash.

One of the point brokers offers a cancel for any reason insurance. I don't know the details of it and whether it covers a pandemic like this, but something to look into.

That said, being your dream trip and the fact that its so far away, I would just consider paying cash. This situation aside, renting points is always a risk. You have more recourse booking direct with Disney. Also, I know some of the DVC units at BCV have Juliet balconies, which are standing room only. Just something to consider.

I'm a big proponent of trying everything once. You've never stayed at BCV, you've wanted to try it, so I would give it a whirl. You'll still be walking distance to BWI. You know BCV isn't the Bates Motel, so the worst that can happen is that you decide at the end that the resort isn't your speed, but then at least you can say you tried it and stayed there!

Thank you all so much for the advice! I didn't realize that the pricing was as close as it is. Since the time of year we're planning on going, I'm hoping that there will be a room only discount. I may be getting an AP again for that year, so I may also be able to get a passholder rate. I'm also hoping that with the time of year there wont be as much as a demand due to there being no festivals going on.

Beach Club is really the dream, and what we always talked about. But BWI gives me the fuzzy feelings lol. I think I need to follow my dream & not my gut.

I’d go with a regular room vs DVC. As others say, too risky. Have you considered YC? BC & YC are really different sides of the same resort. Amenities are shared. And since it’s just the 2 of you, YC tends to have less little children. And full balconies.

I’ve been in the lobbies of both resorts, and ate at ale & compass 3 times, but I just like the feel of BC more than YC. YC comes off as a bit stuffy, where BC makes me wanna sit and stay awhile.

YC isn’t stuffy at all, but everyone has different likes and prioritie. BC lobby is brighter and quite busy. My priority is a full balcony, so I prefer YC.
