2020 or wait until 2021?

I know this is a bit early to think about 2021, but my last trip to WDW was back in 2017 and I'm itching to go back!

First I was thinking Spring 2020 to see SWGE and Toy Story Land, but then since 2021 is the 50th anniversary, and so much new things are opening then, should I just wait until Fall 2021?

I would love to go both in Spring 2020 AND Fall 2021, but I kinda want to go to DL also. We're on the east coast so it's easier for us to go to WDW - cheaper flights, so I've never been to DL and I'm excited about the Marvel land they're planning on. What would be the best way to place those two trips between 2020 and beyond?

We're going May of 2020 and then again May (?) of 2023! Figure 2023 is time for some of the Epcot work they have planned to be finished. :)

With all that is going on, my thought is to just go when you feel is appropriate and see what is open. So much is opening, and who knows what might be closing. So trying to manage everything is too complicated a task. Plenty will be available in 2020, including the Skyliner, so I say go for it. Especially since you have not been since 2017.

I have never been to DL either! (basically same reasoning as you)

We're planning for 2021. Probably September. We're looking forward to the 50th anniversary.

I want to wait till 2021 but I’m definitely going September 2020 give Star Wars a year and before it’s too late for my mil to enjoy

I agree with @Spencer Wright - there will always be new things opening each year so trying to maximize newness while minimizing crowds is futile. This coming from someone who had this master plan of going in October 2019 prior to SWGE and then wait until 2021 after SWGE was less "new" - low and behold, SWGE is going to be open during our carefully timed "low crowd" trip. Totally changes the characteristics of the trip but after a day of shock I'm excited to embrace whatever comes our way. So I'd just decide based on your schedules, any special events coming up as well as if you just can't wait any longer w/o going, and plan for then. Regardless of when you go it will be amazing and there will always be something new to see.

Thanks everyone. Yes, I guess any time there will always be new and exciting things coming up! I mean either way, Disney is Disney and it'll be fun any time. Would the 50th anniversary celebration extend into 2022? I guess technically since the 50th is Oct 2021, it'll still be the 50th year until Oct 2022. I'm so excited about all these new things happening!

Oh wow! I think that's a great mindset to have and I'm sure your Oct 2019 trip will be loads of fun :cheer2:

Rumors point to a lengthy 50th Celebration much like Disneyland’s. Summer 2021 through 2022.

We are planning on 2021 instead of 2020. Things should calm down a bit but Spring of 2021 and we are planning on 10 to 14 days to make sure we get everything done.

After this year we won't be returning until end of 2021 or 2022. I want to give my bank account a break, visit elsewhere and return when Epcot's makeover is complete. I couldn't care less about crowd predictions, but I want that construction done. Epcot needs it before I can enjoy it fully again.

I always think that any vacation should be planned around personal logistics rather than looking ahead to what the destination may offer. There is always something new going on in WDW so unless there was something specific that I really wanted to experience, and that experience was the priority over anything else, I would book when I originally planned.
