I had a reservation in Aulani for June 26-July2. I was using 2019, 2020, and some borrowed 2021 points. The trip was obviously cancelled. I wanted to book the same trip same time next year, but found out my 2019 points expire in March 2021. I feel that due to the Coronavirus we should have at least to the end of calendar year 2021. Many of the resorts are not open. Florida is a hot spot. Who wants to get on an airplane unnecessarily? The kids go back to school in August (or virtual school). For once, I can say Disney is not putting the customer first. This is a big disappointment. Makes me consider selling my timeshare.

There are a million threads on this issue. You are not a Disney customer. You are the owner of a timeshare. DVM is the management company that you (you and all of the owners) have hired to manage the timeshare. There are a perfect number of points to book 100% of the DVC rooms 365 days per year. If DVC gives you an extension and allows you to book next year with those points, you are taking inventory away from me. Since there is no excess inventory, I cannot use my points. I have now lost my points. One way or another, someone is going to lose their points.

If you cannot use your points, try and book something in the short term since there is open inventory and then try and rent it out. Or you can transfer your points to RCI.

Sorry, I did not know there was a thread. If you could point me to it, that would be helpful. Many thanks.

So sorry for this. But, as mentioned, they can only do so much in terms of the system and extending the life of points.

Since your points have quite a long life left on them, there really is no reason to extend them,

The points that were given some extra life were ones expiring during this year during the closure, or shortly after.

I would agree if I had been sitting on my points, but they were booked to be used in June 2020 in Aulani. I wasn’t hesitating to use them. I can’t rebook there until next year. And my points can not be used. All I was asking was my vacation be kept whole For next year. It is not. So now a vacation I had booked for this year cannot be booked for next year without losing points because of a virus and Disney making no accommodations to Help us out.

They are putting the customer first. If they allowed all points to be extended, there would be more points in the system than rooms available to book. When things turn around, it would be difficult to get a reservation, everything sold out. Then members would lose points. They have to draw the line somewhere. They also have timeshare laws where the system has to be in balance so that each member could theoretically be able to book a room with current year points. That‘s why they instituted the 50% borrowing rule.

You can still bank your 2020 and most likely they will move back the borrowed. Check into moving the 2019 to RCI, there are Hawaii resorts.

I sympathize, I really do.

With talk now that potentially the Canada/US border may not be opening up this year, there’s almost 200 banked points in my account that I may or may not be in a position to use before they expire. Even if it does, with no Canadian travel insurers covering Covid, we still won’t be in a position to travel south (no vacation is worth a million dollar hospital bill).

That being said, even though I (and every other Canadian DVC owner) would love special consideration, I know that the rules of the game don’t allow that. Either I hold onto my points and hope for an effective and safe vaccine before spring, or I try to find an Amerifriend to sell my points to.

There is no great option, but as my late grandfather would have said, “them’s the breaks”.

I understand, but the issue is with a timeshare, there are rules and laws that govern and one things DVCM can not do is overload the system or simply move points forward for everyone.

This is not Disney who decides these things, it is our ownership and the contracts that guide it.

Owners of weeks based timeshares in places that closed have simply lost out. At least with our points based, there are options to reuse at a later date, It may not be exactly what you want, but there are places other than Aulani that can be booked.

I would rent the points out there is still a lot of people that want to rent . I just rented out some points yesterday for end of January through David’s. Just do your 2019 and maybe a little of your 2020 if there’s not a lot of 2019.

If you banked 2019 points, to 2020? Then cancelled 2020? Like us, you are toast.
RENT those points out. WDW will not help you.
