:flower:Happy New Year!!! My husband surprised me by choosing Disneyland + San Diego as our family trip Feb 2017!!! Yes 1 year away, but gives us time to plan & save.

My question is this...our family went last year 2015 at this time, and we decided and booked prior to realizing which rides where scheduled for refurbs-LOL. While I'm aware there will be some...hoping to have insight this time around prior.

Its a bit far out and who know if they will make additional closures if they need to for further construction or refurbishment, but as of right now Tom Sawyer Island/RiverBoats/The Railroad/Fantasmic will all be closed further into 2017.

Beyond the long term closures in preparation for Star Wars Land, you really can't plan around ride closures. DLR doesn't tend to announce things until fairly last minute, sometimes just a couple months out.

Ugh the railroad + Fantasmic would be bummers. Any rumors on when Star Wars land expected to open?

This is a major intrusion into Disneyland, unlike Radiator Springs where they just had to scrape away the state fair and had an empty parking lot to work on. Even Toon town was a piece of cake compared to the new construction for 2016. The Berm is the first problem and what problems they encounter that are currently not on the drawing board. The talk is that the entrance into Star Wars will be breath takingl, so just image the land. 60 years of mistakes are the compass for the fruition of this land.....hence, it is going to be awhile, long past the new year.....of 2017.

Disney has been very careful as to not give any estimated opening dates for Star Wars Land. The best guesses at this point are using the Carsland construction timeline (about 3 years) as a rough estimate, but even that is just a guess.

....but of even more importance, and i don't direct this towards you specifically, but folks like us who have to plan and save to visit Disneyland may find that putting off a visit to Disneyland in order to be there for the new land may actually be in for a major disappointment. Are you prepared to be in Disneyland when the world is there? And all the infrastructure surrounding the opening? ( which by the way will be a year long event and just not a day)

I am not.

The magic for me is how the park sits now (pre-SWL). I am going to visit now because it may very well be inaccessible for me years from now....if I have to save to visit the park, which I have to do.

I wouldnt expect Star Wars Land to open before 2020 mostly because I can see the hype and advertisements for the beginning of a new decade. The 60th celebration brought a new level of crowds and I imagine star wars land opening will top that.

I've been fortunate to be able to visit Disneyland frequently since I was a child and chickapin is 100% right in in saying you do not want to be at the park when everyone else is. The ridiculous crowds almost ruin the experience.

Good to know...well at least we won't barely miss it. This will be our 4th visit with hub + kids from WA state. Every other year for past years. We won't put off our trip, but I do like knowing so I can adjust expectations. Totally looking forward to new soaring, as they were just starting that refurb last visit.

I will try to watch any upcoming refurbs for next year. How long is fantasmic & railroad expected to be down, if anyone knows?

Just getting back on boards now that trip on adgenda again. :rainbow:

Disney has just said that the closures are expected to last for more than a year. So hopefully that means the Rivers of America (TSI, Mark Twain, Columbia, Canoes, and Fantasmic!) and the train will be back at some point in 2017 (hopefully earlier in the year than in the latter part).

Hopefully they open both DL and WDW'S Star Wars Lands simultaneously so that the fans can choose either coast to see the new lands. I wonder how similar they'll look?? Different E Ticket rides would be so awesome! But something tells me that isn't about to happen...

We loved our trip in February! It is totally a regular refurbishment time though... and the River isn't going to look pretty all boarded up!

Well I shall watch closely. Of course would love to have them back up during our trip, regardless these changes sound quite exciting!

We were also there in February 2015 during the closures. And we'll be heading back in March 2017. :) I suspect the Rivers of America and railroad will likely still be down. And then the usual seasonal closures are likely...Matterhorn, Splash Mtn, and who knows what other refurbishments may be done.

Of course, we still want to go back. I'd like to go one more time before the insanity of Star Wars land arrives (YUCK.)

Is it normal for the Matterhorn to be down that time (feb/mar) of year?? I expected splash mt. to be down, but not Matterhorn.

I'm not really sure. I just remember it being closed on a lot of our winter visits. May have just been bad luck on our part though.
