2017 discounts today

I don't see the 2017 discounts anywhere on the WDW site today. Do you have to call for the discounts?

You won't find any discounts for 2017 this early as rack rates were just released today. It will be awhile before any discounts for 2017 come out (fall/winter time frame), and even then will only cover a short time for the beginning of the year.

2017 bookings just opened today.
you won't find any discounts until probably october.
and those discounts will likely be for january-march

Ok so if we want to go in February 2017 we would be wise to book our package and then wait for discounts to be applied in October so as to guarantee a room at our desired resort and for our dates?
Also, are the cheer squads all February long?

if you book now that would guarantee the resort you want but its going to mean that you may not end up with a discount.
disney offers discounts to fill rooms.
your room would already be filled which means they don't have to give you a discount.
resorts generally don't sell out for february so i'd probably advise waiting until the discounts come out.
as for cheer competitions i'm not sure when they are but its not going to have too much of an effect on the crowds since they are competing.
if you go any time during president's day week you're likely going to run into more crowds. if you can avoid that week you're looking at a pretty low crowd time if you can call it that anymore.
i just looked up the national high school cheer leading competition and its february 11th and 12th 2017

Thanks disney world dreamer, we will be going Feb 18-24th...that makes me happy to know we will miss it!
I could always book it now and if the discounts are better and they can't adjust it, I could cancel the first and rebook for the discount , correct?

yes, as long as there is still discount availability that is.
btw just to warn you you are going during president's day week.

We did this last year we booked the day the prices came out cause we know when and where we wanted to stay we stayed at the beach club villas and at time of booking we booked at full rate. I checked the web site daily to wait for a discount to come up the day it came up we called Disney RIGHT away and they were already all gone for the beach club. I was told that the discounts are put in place to fill resorts and if u pick a resort that fills naturally then not many discounts would be available like maybe 1 or 2 rooms at most. So keep that in mind. If you book and are expecting to hook up with a discount later on it may not always be there. Found that out the hard way.

I go back and forth on the "when to book" issue. If we don't have a strong preference, I'll just wait until the discounts are released and book then. That's what we did for Princess Half Marathon weekend this year and ended up with a WL/Poly villa split based on discount availability. For marathon weekend next year, I would really like BWI CL. There is no way I'm booking that at rack rate, so I booked a standard room at BWI just in case nothing better comes along with a discount. It's also room only, so it allows significant flexibility to adjust for discounts when/if they pop up. So for us, it really depends on how strongly we feel about the need for a back-up rack rate reservation in the event the discounts don't work out the way we would like.

Either way, I'm ready to make some quick decisions the day the discounts are released!

Great thanks everyone for the tips! And yes I know it's President Week there ...we are from Canada and it's reading week for the Colleges here , so it's my only option. I went ahead and booked it as a package and if a discount or free dining should be offered:rotfl2:....I will rebook or try to modify! We booked AOA....haven't stayed there before!

out of curiosity did you book a suite or standard room?

February and early March are usually UCA college and high school cheerleading and dance nationals, so there is a very good chance of cheerleading teams at WDW. You can go to www.varsity.com for their competition dates and locations! Also, the website WDW Prep School has a calendar for the 2016-2017 school year that identifies some times that cheer competitions are going on.

That's ok....I am wiling to switch if the discount is at any Value or reasonable Mod ....it's only my week that is non negotiable :P

Yes or no.

Yes, if the resort/room type is paramount, regardless of price. Only book now if you're so set on that resort that you'd be happy with it, discount or no discount.

No, if you really only want a room with a discount.

When discounts come out, you don't actually get to "apply" one to a pre-booked room: your room is of rack rate stock, & since you've already booked it, it won't be converted to discount stock. Rather, you'll get the same chance as anyone else to book a separate, discounted room, instead of the rack rate room you had already booked.

The resort & room type you originally booked might or might not be available for discounted booking, and having the room booked in advance actually reduces the likelihood that that particular resort/room type will be available to be discounted, as you've already reserved one of them at rack rate.

To put it simpler, when discounts come out, people with no prior reservation will have exactly the same chance that you have of being able to book a discounted room of the resort & room type that you want.

last two years it's been the 'Stay Play Dine' discount from January - March. It's a good deal if you think you'll want the dining plan. It's not free, but at least there's a discount. Even better considering it's 'value' season and you won't get cheaper rates to begin with.

Cheer competition is the second weekend of February? Well that explains why I can't find any all star rooms that weekend (DW birthday is 2/10)
