2014 - destash thread The Year of the Great Purge

Posting back after a two month leave from destashing as well!

But today we went through my DD8's room and got rid of two bags of junk, 1 bag of clothes to donate and 1 bag of clothes to keep for younger sister.

And it only took 2.5 hours!!:rotfl2::cool1: with crying only lasting 15 minutes :faint:

But we got through it.

I told her maybe the Easter Bunny will have new stuff for her ... and that seemed to help stop the crying.

Keep up the good work everyone!

Tomorrow we do DD5's room.

Then I'm hoping to get to my clothes and bedroom on Wednesday.

Hi, I'm new posting but have been lurking the boards since I discovered it last year while planning our Disney trip. Laughed when I found this thread because I told my DH that 2014 is our year to "get organized". Recently renovated our attic into a room for our boys and now have a lot less space to "store stuff". Did an indoor yard sale in feb. and got rid of a lot of junk. Took preceeds from the sale and bought closet organizers and colored rubbermaid bins. Now when I open my cubby doors in the attic I know exactly what holiday decorations are where by the color of bin they are in. Green for Christmas, Purple for Easter, blue for kids clothes that I'm saving etc. I love it, but my DH thinks I'm nuts!. New carpet coming for house next week so I'm trying to make sense out of the rest of my rooms...It sure is a process! I'll check in and let you know how it's going. My goal is to be organized by summer break when the kids are home everyday. Wish me luck!

Sold 4 pairs of dh's old pair of short and made $5.

$5 going straight to the vacation fund. I plan on reposting dd's clothes on CL hopefully I can get rid of more stuff and make some $$$.

I purged/reorganized our entry way this afternoon after church while I was waiting for lunch to heat up.

We also painted our dining room and kitchen.

Just keep swimming! House is being listed on Thursday!

Little kids are on vacation this week so we are gutting every room!
I hope to toss a lot of stuff this week.
Goodwill hamper is over flowing so I have to take that this week as well, I hope to have a car full by Friday.

Went through DD's clothes about a month ago, but I am doing to boys now. We switch to summer uniforms and DS13 has grown so much, I know he will need all new clothes.

Got out of the house last week:
1 shopping bag of uniforms
RV linens are back in the RV. I need to find a tote so they can stay in the RV over winter.

I'm still plugging away at it. I make a little progress each week and I have a pretty big mountain of stuff set aside for a yard sale. I need to do a hard sort on the kids toys so I can bag like with like and price for the yard sale. It will take about another month or so before we are ready for the yard sale but at least I have a goal to work towards. Still working on selling off my pin and vinyl collection and while it is going slowly, it is going at a pretty steady pace.

Good work everyone! I have so much going on the next few weeks I'll be lucky to accomplish anything :-/
Afraid I'm going to lose all the motivation I've had, I'll keep checking in - hopefully you'll all keep me inspired!

My daughter's school is having a donations drive - I've been going through my closet and my daughter's looking for stuff we never wear. We also got our kitchen redone this Spring Break. When we were emptying it we found all sorts of appliances/dishes/pots and pans we never use, so those are going to be donated. too!

Our neighborhood announced our garage sale will be June 7th so I requested that and the 6th off.

DD dropped off the 3 bags to the Rescue Mission on Friday.

Dropped 4 more bags of clothes off at Goodwill. That is 10 full bags of clothes for this year so far. It is funny trying on things or digging into the pockets to find out the last time you wore something. Found a gas receipt from August 2007! It feels good to have space in the closet again.

This week we can start dropping off items for the church rummage sale.

1 minivan load went to church this AM. It included:

5 suitcases
1 exercise ball
5 boxes of small appliances, household items, toys, and junk.

The organ that we want to donate still works, so I contacted the coordinator who will find a couple of strong guys to help get it out of our basement.

When I was searching for the 11 x 7 pan that came from my parents' house, I realized that we still have all of DD's baby doll stuff - stroller, changing table, etc. I will check with her this afternoon, but that may be able to go as well.:banana::banana:

Last Sunday we got 4 inches of rain and we ended up getting 3 ft of water in our basement.

We got our furnance running, but the repairman said it will probably last another month.
Our gas water heater is gone, but my husband was able to change out all the parts that were effected, because it broke down in the warranty year and the manufacturer sent us double parts of everything.

We lost our de-humidifier, a shredder I put in the basement, because I didn't want to look at it during Easter when everyone was coming over. We had to throw a lot away, because the moisture from the 3 feet over water, just saturated everything and it smelt like mold. 20 bags of garbage. My husband made me go through every box and tote.

It was sad loosing so much, but I finally destashed 20 years worth of paper.

We put an antique rocking chair out on our curb and someone picked it up. It was missing a spindle on each side of the arms. It had a leather inlay, but some rivets rusted.

DD is fine, and the baby doll stuff will leave my house on Friday.

Sorry to hear that happened, it's not the best way to destash.

I am sorry to hear that as well. We had some flooding a few months ago, and it is so frustrating.

So sorry what a horrible Easter. As much as I would have wanted to just toss everything, I would have felt the need to go through everything too.

Been there, done that. The day before we went to Disney too. Thankfully my furnace, well pump, washer and dryer were up on platforms. Now everything is up on shelves and everything on the bottom shelves is in plastic totes. When we expect rain DS17 helps me put my treadmill up on blocks.

So sorry, that is a super stinky way to declutter!!!

Oh, man, sorry to hear about the water damage! That stinks (literally).

Kids were off school today so we tackled the play room. Got 3 big bags of stuff for the church yard sale, 1 large bag of trash (broken stuff, missing pieces, etc.), and 2 boxes of kids' books to donate to the reading specialist at school. Yay! So how come it still looks like there is too much stuff down there? :confused3:

DD's room is next on the list. She has wayyyy too much craft stuff crammed into her little closet, so I need to make her a space down in my craft room to keep it. On the bright side, she used up one kit this morning tye-dyeing socks, so that is one less box in there!

Does "destashing" the yard count? I think there are 6-8 bags of trash & yard waste waiting for trash day. Tossed an old pool that I thought DH had done 2 years ago, tried to get our old non-working riding mower out front for a scrapper, but DH couldn't do it without help or getting hurt lol.
Anywho, hope everyone is having a good weekend!

Three televisions and a microwave went to electronics recycling today! Had to pay $7/tv.

Sending a ton of kids' clothes with my mom in May when she goes to my brother's house.

Still have to take all of my daughter's old bedding and upholstered headboard to Goodwill. That was the only thing I had no luck selling on Craigslist.
