2014 anybody?

I do like the idea of splitting them up. That way you can give each place more time and manage a leisurely pace.

There's nothing wrong with multi-tasking right?

Thanks, I think you're right. Plus if I drop Arizona I can up the days at WDW ;)

But when will I fit all this in? 2014 was supposed to be 'return to US and WDW' and then 2015 I qualify for LSL so had penciled in Europe. So...push out Europe or pencil in US and DL for 2016? Well that's my travel plans set for the next few years!

I'm exactly the same. I want to do five million things simultaneously. However, I tend to find it all slots into place organically.

Over time you start ruling things in and out and eventually get some itinerary or plan over the next couple of years you feel comfortable with.

Heck, we couldn't decide to do Europe or the US this year and are doing two weeks in each!

Hello everyone - my very first post on the Disboards :cloud9:

We're planning a three week trip to the US and intending to visit NYC, Chicago, House on the Rock, New Orleans and Disneyland :goodvibes

The itinerary so far is to touch down in LA and check into our Anaheim hotel, having the first full day as a flight recovery day. On the second day we are planning to take a bus tour to view the Hollywood sites, followed by 3 days in Disneyland.

We then fly to New York for 5 days, after which we fly into Chicago. There are several options here which we are considering. The first is to take a rental car north to House on the Rock which is a Wisconsin attraction, my partner and I have an interest in as its featured in a beloved book. Following the day we have here to absorb the atmosphere we will return the car and then spend 3 days in Chicago. We will then board the Spirit of New Orleans to New Orleans (shocking revelation I'm sure :lmao:).

Alternatively, we could spend 3 days in Chicago before driving up to House on the Rock, and then continue down in the rental car to Champaign. Where we would spend some time with my father who lives there. From there we would catch the Spirit of New Orleans.

We intend to stay in New Orleans for 3 days before wrapping up the trip.

So...any thoughts? Suggestions? I'm not sure about relying on driving even in those short segments, although my partner feels confident if its contained mostly to highway driving.

Welcome! :wave2:

We drove on our last trip and didn't have any issues (well, Crazy Cat Boy had some issues with MY driving, but that was more his problem! LOL). Just take it easy and you'll be fine. It is disconcerting at first, but you get used to it.

Your trip sounds fabulous!

Thank you for the welcome! :wave2:

Its encouraging to hear you didn't have any issues. My memories of driving in the US are probably coloured by my father (who is a very anxiety prone person) driving and the grand production it became :lmao:

I'd love to eventually do a grand road trip of the US - following route 66 and stopping off at different roadside attractions when we pass them...one day!

Welcome to the boards - would love to know more about the House on the Rock...

Hello!

House on the Rock is a setting in American Gods, which is an urban fantasy by Neil Gaiman. It was originally a residential home with some unique characteristics, such as the "Infinity Room" which was designed to appear like it jutted off into infinite space. There is also several collections of americana contained in these subterranean museum like rooms, combined with animatronic orchestras, and the world's largest carousel. Truly extraordinary :lmao:

I've been there previously as a teenager but my partner has yet to experience the sensory overload so its mandatory on this trip!

Hello and welcome.

Can't help you really but it sounds fascinating including House on the Rock and I haven't read the book so sounds like I need to add it to my must read list. We find driving in the US, so long as its not in the centre of the big cities, very easy so I wouldn't be worried on that count. There is a ton of info here if you need it to get the most out of DL and NYC and anywhere else basically. I will be interested to hear about Chicago.

One warning - you have to write a TR on your return-its mandatory ;)

If you have any specific questions to ask go right ahead. A lot of the regulars all seem to be heading OS next month but I am sure there is enough of us left to help out.

We have booked WDW (old key west) for the end of Oct/start of November 2014. Now just trying to plan the first part of the holiday which will be LA (Disneyland!) and then San Diego. We were planning on going to NYC again but not so sure now. Plenty of time to decide:laughing:

Our plans have changed again for our Easter trip. We have ditched San Francisco in favour of an extra night in Vegas. So now we've got 6 nights in Anaheim (PPH), 3 in Vegas and finish with 2 in LA. Wish we had more time to be a little more adventurous.

Still thinking of The Venetian, Rialto Suite, for Vegas, however I did have a few of you suggest the Bellagio instead. Why would you choose one over the other? I'm thinking of the huge room space in the suite at the Venetian..,

We stayed at the Venetian & absolutely loved it. The room was huge! We are planning on staying there again next year. After our last stay I'm on their email list & get all the current promotions so I will definately be taking advantage of them when it is time to book.

Quick question for anyone who uses compression stockings....

What brand do you use and why? I find that my feet swell on long journeys and I'd like to minimise that.

Just checking in everybody :goodvibes

Not sure if I mentioned it but WDW accom is booked (9 nights), we've chosen not to stay onsite and will be at Sheraton Vistana on International Drive, facilities there look fantastic.

Eastern Caribbean cruise is booked and almost half paid for.

Waiting on flights (good prices) to be released in a few months.

Will be heading to Vegas after our cruise and not sure where we'll be staying, stayed at MGM last time for the sum of $54 a night + tax (bargain!!)

Then off to Disneyland and undecided where to stay there also, I would LOVE to stay at DL hotel, DH would like Grand Cali but really, I could spend the money we saved on so many souvenirs :upsidedow if we stayed at a much cheaper hotel, we stayed at PPH in 2009 but also got a great deal on that $110 per night.

So many decisions yet to be made!

:cheer2:

I work in a pharmacy. We usually recommend the Jobst brand. They are gradient compression stockings, which means the maximum amount of compression is around the ankle and weakens higher up the leg. This has been shown to promote circulation better than uniform compression stockings, which have the same compression the whole way through and can therefore cut off circulation higher up the leg. Scholl Flight Socks are also gradient compression, but are a lower compression than the Jobst. However, they are also quite a bit cheaper too.

Something else to keep in mind is that pharmacies may not have stock of the Jobst products and may have to measure you and order them in - there's just such a wide range of sizes, compressions, styles (e.g. knee-high, thigh-high, waist-high, open toe, etc.) and colours that it's just impossible to have stock of them all. They should be able to get them in for you by the next weekday, however!

We stayed at the Holiday Inn in 2009 for our Disneyland trip. They had a shuttle to the parks, but I think from memory that we actually walked it a couple of times as well. However, the Holiday Inn was a long way from the restaurants, so we ate in house. But if you have a car, that wont be a problem.

Thanks so much for this! :)

I'll see where I can get them locally. I don't want pesky swollen feet holding me up at WDW. I also want to do some serious shoe shopping in NYC! :thumbsup2

My DH and I had our passport interviews at Aust Post today. Brought forward bc of our Singapore trip slotting in before our April DL trip. Mine had 7 years on it still but I had it changed into my married name. DH has never had a passport!

We spent some time over dinner tonight discussing our DL trip plans. DH is happy to leave DL up to me, but had said he would like to bus from LV to the GCH, not do a fly/drive tour. Ah well, I need to let him make ONE decision LOL. We have ditched San Fran, we just don't have enough time for that AND LV.

Has anybody got a favourite Hollywood tour they have done?

I am desperately hanging out to book something as I still feel like it won't happen! My DH is not as excited a out this trip as I am :-/ He'd rather stay home and pay off our mortgage. I can't see why we have to stay home to do that! Once I have something booked I'll let myself relax and start to get excited!
We aren't going until end of Dec 2014 so I can't book anything for a while yet.....

I'm waiting for our flights to become available ::yes::

Once they're booked it becomes real!

My DH is already deciding which golf courses he'll be hitting up :thumbsup2

I'll hit the parks, he'll hit the golf courses and then we're off cruising the Caribbean :boat: which we're both dying for!

I'd love to pay my mortgage off faster too, but meh, my DS is only a child once, I want him to enjoy it :lovestruc
