2014 anybody?

Hey Princess, it's great to see a familiar face round here LOL. I hope you've been well? I'm still living on the west coast, have been in Perth now for 15 months. I've been complaining to my DH that I want to move back to Sydney, miss the family and friends, that my DD should start high school over there next year... but now I think I'd rather plan a DL trip even more than move back 'home'! I didn't talk to him yesterday b/c he's been sick with man-flu and was in quite an unresponsive mood when I told him I had (yet another) spreadsheet for him to look over. What he doesn't know is that I'm prepared to give up my moving back home plans for this trip!

My sister is doing well. She's a little over DL after having 3 trips in I think 6 years, however when I told her the price of airfares, I almost had her planning another trip with me! We were working towards a trip to Europe Sept 2014, however I put the brakes on that b/c I felt bad that I was excluding my DD...

So... here's to my DH feeling much better this afternoon, so I can have a reasonable conversation with him about this trip! He didn't come with my DD, my sister and I in 2010, and really isn't all that fussed by DL, however I want his DD to come, as she's never been. So that's the 2nd angle I"ll be working with him... that and Vegas is a'calling! - I'll let you know how I go!

Hope your DH feels better. And good luck with your 2014 plans. :thumbsup2

DH is home sick again, BUT I have outlined my plan. Funnily enough, I may get both of what I want - a move back to Sydney, AND a DL trip! It pays to discuss these things with detailed spreadsheets on hand LOL.

He hasn't said yes to DL - yet. Give me a few more minutes! He's said he'd prefer to visit San Francisco instead of Vegas, which is fine by me. I think there's a lot for us to do there (I must re-read the SF thread!). He's more concerned with losing money on our planned Qld trip in January, but I keep telling him the $1000-odd that we'll lose will be made back on the awesome price of airfares! If I take a day or 2 off our DL plan, and add that to SF, I think I'll win!

ps. Hope you win and hope DH feels better.

Heidi I'll be happy if you get to both move back here and go to DL! keep me posted on your progress!

He said YES to DL!!! Just waiting to hear back from his ex to make sure his daughter wil be allowed to come too. If so, then I'll cancel our Qld flights tonight, and book with V-Aust!

Tanya, did you get the photo I texted you?

The Sydney move is still up for discussion. Although my friend FB'd me today and said her DH will have a job for me in a couple of months... if I was back by then!

More DL details to come...

Woo Hoo! Ch...ch...ch...changes.
Hopefully, you will get to transfer your Qld flights to credits for another trip.

Yay Heidi, very excited for you all and looking forward to helping you plan!

Hi PrincessInOz, I haven't been posting much lately since our trip last year, although I still check out the forums regularly. Am aiming to stick to my resolution of ticking off a few of my other dream destinations before I go back to DL, although the temptation is sometimes hard to resist.

BOOKED! Woo hoo! Depart Sydney on VA1 13/4/14, return from LA on VA2 24/4/14 (arrive 26/4/14). Cost of fares was only - get this - $4658 for the 4 of us. (I looked at January and it was over $12K). I got a $1000 credit on my flights to Qld, so they only cost me $3658.

Now to purchase travel insurance, then do the fun planning!

Congratulations Heidi. Sounds like fun times ahead....planning and the trip.

That's a great price for school holidays:banana:
I just checked VA flights for my DS and I can get it for $1090 return to Lax, :cool1:we are also going in April 2014. DH and I already have our flights booked using points.
Just need to get a few things sorted before I can book, as we are flying to Miami, and NYC as well, think it might be worth booking it all together on one ticket. A quick calculation came up at $1470 for SYD-Miami-NYC-Syd. Not bad at all:cool1:

That's what I thought, I've never seen them so low for school holidays. Perhaps they are trying to lure us there, despite the fall in the dollar? That fare including Miami and NYC is awesome! Will you be at DL while we are there? 13/4 - 20/4 (then we'll fly to San Fran for a few days before returning to LA).

I've just booked a std room at Paradise Pier. I'm planning to buy myself an AP as I should be able to save the extra ticket cost on a room discount/food/merchandise savings.

Good luck for sept, becpee!

No we are going to Miami on the 11th for a cruise 12-19th then WDW/Daytona beach/universal(dates not sorted yet) till the 29th, then NYc till 2/5 before jetting over to Paris.

The AP sounds like a good idea:thumbsup2

My plans definitely aren't as concrete as some others on here, to the point that I may change them entirely. (This may be a long post, but didn't think it was worth a thread on it's own considering these are just musings.)

My original plan was end of October go Boston, NY, Philadelphia, Washington, WDW, Arizona over about four or five weeks. Then last week I went to PAX, which is a huge gaming expo usually held in Seattle and Boston each year, but for the first time this year also held in Melbourne. I had such a great time I started to consider going to one of the PAX shows in the states. And then I started to think...why have one big trip with lots of east coast stuff (Boston, etc and Florida) and a stop in the west...why not split it into two and leave Arizona as a separate trip...and stop at Disneyland as part of the second trip?! I've never been soooo...actually haven't seen any of the west coast, apart from LAX heh. Decisions, decisions.

Anyway, I've still got an unfinished Japan trip plan to work on (and only 100 days til I leave) so I've probably got more urgent things to think about!

I do like the idea of splitting them up. That way you can give each place more time and manage a leisurely pace.

There's nothing wrong with multi-tasking right?
