2013, February 24 - Disney Dream

Hi- Fellow cruisers! I know everyone is getting excited. This is the first time we have cruised - it's just me and my 7 year old. Those of you who have been previously- would you stay on the boat in Nassau or disembark and do an excursion. As it is just the 2nd day of the cruise, I was thinking it might be fun to stay put and look around the ship.
Thanks !!!

Hi, we are also considering staying on the ship in Nassau cuz we did end up getting a cabana #12, for CC. There's only 3 of us and 6 are allowed, any amt over 6 is extra $50 each. A lot comes w it apparently.!

If another family wants to split it just pm me.

Wow, Pelham is right ard the corner! We are doing the parks fri & sat (took billy out of school for fri) we r staying at contemporary. Maybe we can meet up in a park or at the least at our meeting in vista lounge at 3pm day we sail!

I hit Walmart yest and found a lot of little things I've learned frommy packing list..nightlights, air fresheners....etc

Thanks
Ellen

We will try to meet as well but being new to the ship hopefully I will not get lost! I do have a few questions. Is everyone allowed to board the ship starting at 11 am? <- I think I read yes somewhere in all of my research. And if, for some reason, our stateroom changes once we arrive on the ship *upgrade* :goodvibes how do we let everyone know? Lastly, because this is our first cruise I hope you all enjoy our FE gifts! I feel so lost on how and what to do! Lol!

I will send you my cell # and cabin #. If you upgrade, text me before we leave port and/or leave me a message at our cabin.

Hi -

So far a lot of us are from northeast....dying to get warm down in Caribbean. A girl I chat with just sailed back on Dream today from same itinerary as ours!

Evidently Nassau has changed 100% for the better. All cleaned up. Straw mkt moved to a big beautiful barn near pier.
CC was beautiful & warm but water was 69 degrees. Many kids in water though. Forecast kept stating clouds & rain but was bright & sunny everyday.

I'm concerned about the 11th fl balconies.
It seems all closed in like a greenhouse? Has anyone seen them?
I can't locate a pic either

Oh that sounds wonderful! I am actually very excited about touring Nassau. I have heard very different things about it but I'm one that enjoys seeing new places and experiencing new cultures! I figure if we get off and don't like the first impressions we will get back on the boat. :)

That sounds fun, we'll see you there!

so how abt telling what state we are all from! We are from the bright lights of very rural NH !

Ellen

Downstate NY on the border of NJ!!

Can't wait to get some sunshine and warmer temps....snowstorm predicted for this Friday...DD 28 is going to Nashville for her birthday and to visit our other DD24 who lives there and she is very upset that weather may be a problem in her gettng there.

The ship is a destination in itself. We were lucky enough to be booked on MV of the Dream and I actually added the 4 night cruise following it just so I could have more time to explore the ship. We spent 8 days that time and I just love the Dream. We have been to Nassau about a dozen times and sometimes we get off to walk around, sometimes we do an excursion and sometimes we just stay onboard. I would recommend being up on deck or out on your verandah when we pull into Nassau...it is a very pretty view coming in. Be prepared for one thing. If you do leave the ship you will be bombarded with locals asking if you want your hair braided. A polite no thank and keep walking works the best.

When passengers leave the ship in Nassau they walk down the pier to the customs building. You walk through this building (there are a few kiosks that sell local stuff) and when you come out the other side of the building is where you will be asked about hairbarding, carriage rides, etc. Come out to the main street and make a right and the straw market is just a few blocks down.

Nassau has cleaned up a lot from the past. Another thing we have done with the kids was to just take a taxi to the Atlantis resort and walk along the perimeter of the hotel and look in all the aquarium lagoons (outdoor from the Casino which is actually the top of the underground aquarium). There is no cost for this other than the taxi ride. You can't walk the complete grounds unless you are a hotel guest or have a wristband. You can also pay for the "Dig" which is a nice underground aquarium. It is set up like the last city of Atlantis and is nice to see at least once. I believe you can buy tickets that day in the hotel.

UPDATE....SUCCESSFUL CANCEL AND RESERVE! One more post.....I have Cabana #9 reserved on the family beach but don't think I will be keeping the reservation since it is just hubby and I. Before I release it, PM me if you are interested in reserving it. Obviously, none of us have control over someone booking it when I release it (or when it gets released back into inventory) but I thought if someone interested PM'd me we could coordinate a time for me to release it while someone was ready to reserve it right away.

So, PM me if you are interested. I have 3 days before the cruise to cancel, but will be travelling before that date so I want to cancel this week.

Any chance there is still room on the FE list? This is our first ever cruise. We didn't get our confirmation until yesterday due to the fact that this is a donated trip to my husband who is a Purple Heart Marine Corps Veteran.

We have 2 girls 12 and 6.

Not participating in the FE but just wanted to say congrats to your hubby. My dad is a Marine veteran.

What a nice way to celebrate his Purple Heart!!
