2013 dining plan prices! OUCH

The list of restaurants in the initial 2013 brochures is not final. They include only Disney-owned restaurants and those who have already signed the contract for 2013 (likely none at this point). Non-Disney restaurants have until the end of the year to sign back up for the next year. Historically, only 1 restaurant has ever dropped participation in the dining plan, Fulton's, and they rejoined for 2012. There's a good chance that your favorite restaurant that was on the plan for 2012 will be on it for 2013.

(Note: Many of the Epcot restaurants are, in fact, not owned by Disney. Same deal with Downtown Disney, and same deal with the Coronado Springs Resort)

(yes, that's on a notepad today, and will be for a few days :p)

Thanks! Glad to hear that but I am still torn as to if we should really do the plan or not. It is an extra $1000 for 3 of us. I highly doubt we will spend that much $ OOP without the plan.:worship:

Do you think it is smart to wait and add the dining plan later on your package? I am up in the air and really want to get my plans booked, but not 100% sold on the DDP just yet. Or can you book, then remove later? Help.

You can do either or. It makes no difference really, so long as you make sure to change it no later than 3 days before your check-in date.

If it helps with budgeting, add it early. Otherwise, it doesn't matter.

Now, do note that changes made close to check-in time are subject to change fees, and lowering the total cost of the package as well as making changes closer to the check-in date are typically charged said fees, whereas upping the cost of the package more than a couple weeks out will typically have the CM waive those fees. While that sounds like a lot, it really only matters beyond the 45 day out mark as you can make any changes up to that point without worrying about fees.

(Now, there are also some differences between booking room only and booking a package, mostly having to do with cancellations, deposits, and balance due dates. This may also come into play for you, but if you're doing a package either way, then it doesn't matter.)

I am just torn, but I feel that it might be easier and less stressful knowing that it is already taken care of ahead of time to book it and then not have to worry about what things cost when we get there. Decisions! :confused3

You can add the DDP to your package (meaning you already have room + tickets) up to 3 days before your arrival date or 2 days if DVC on points.

-You can remove the DDP without a penalty up to 45 days before arrival because that's the deadline for paying off your package.

BUT - If you remove the package within 45 days of arrival you can be charged $50 change fee because the total price will go down. If you remove it within 15 days (or so) there's an additional $15 fee.

It's easy to add paid DDP so I would wait until I'm sure I want the plan.

If it's free dining, add it as soon as the offer comes out because there's only a limited number of rooms available under any offer and once they're gone, even if you already have a package it can't be added.

Since you said earlier this was your first time, I want you to be aware that DS10 is considered a Disney adult and you will have to pay the adult price for the DDP for him. You may want to check some menus and prices over at allearsnet.com to get an idea of what he might eat.

Me, my husband and my MIL are going with my 2 sons- ages 5 and 2 and I tried pricing a few of the meals we wanted to do.

Just for the 3 of the 5 days the total was over $750. Yes, that was 2 character meals, and CS each day...so it could be possible that you would spend that much for the 3 of you. How old is your child? Are you doing character meals?

I'm still on the fence about the plan too.

Last year we went without the DDP and I swore that I would get it next time, if only for the fact that everything was prepaid. Every meal we ate my DH would always comment on how expensive everything was. I feel that the convenience of not having to worry about prices would have made that trip a bit more magical.

This trip though is going to be a little different and my husband will not be joining us so I'm back on trying to decide on the DDP again. I'm still leaning towards getting it just for the convenience factor.

I've been a big fan of the deluxe plan, and I am glad we are doing one last trip with DxDP this October because I am not paying one hundred bucks per adult for it.

I know many folks get the dining plan for free, but frankly it's simply not worth $56/day. I will continue to book WDW vacations when I receive a % off the room rate (which is the only way we have ever booked, w/ a room discount). And starting next year, we will go OOP.

We have enjoyed the convenience of the DDP the past 2 years, but for next years trip we will pay OOP for meals. I priced a vacation for next April and May 2013 and the DDP was just too much for us. Overall the vacation package priced about $700 more than I had thought. :( And we also want to visit Legoland and Universal Studios, so no DDP for us. I will start buying Disney gift cards for our Disney meals (so that we can still feel as if it is prepaid).

But for the DxDP, I think the price increases seem reasonable. We've done the DDP several times and also done trips without it. I'm not a huge fan of the DDP because I tend to eat more than I need or even want simply because it's offered, but it still tends to work better for us because we have two young children who love character meals and one child is under 3 so we don't pay for him.

We did a 7 day trip last October w/o the DDP and I saved receipts and tallied at the end. We ate exactly the way we wanted, mostly CS, a few character meals, no skimping on snacks etc and we spent the same as we would have had we purchased the DDP. Did we get the same amount of food? No, but we didn't overeat either. We were satisfied.

We are doing a trip with extended family in January and we are all doing the DDP because it's easier and we just prefer to have to all taken care of before the trip.

So many places in World Showcase and Downtown Disney are off the 2013 plan!!:furious:

QSDP was already on the edge of value..um..ness? in 2012. The new prices have push it over so that, even I, the eternal optimist (at least, when it comes to other people) will not recommend it outside of special circumstances (mixed groups, someone who always likes to order the most expensive, etc).

DDP is still a mixed bag. The base price on DDP did not raise by all that much, so it can still be done, but it will take more planning and such to make it work. It'll also drop a few more people (as we've seen on both threads) who were already close to the cusp.

Now, I will say that the plans (all of them) are absolutely great for mixed family/friend groups. (At least, while there's still some value to be had). The convenience of being able to tell everyone that your food bill for x is $y is a very helpful thing and certainly has some level of value to it by itself and this especially holds true in groups with multiple payers. It's steadily losing it's luster for single payer groups through (e.g. normal families who make up the bulk of WDW visitorship).

Of course, rereading your post, you're pretty much saying something similar :p, but I guess I want to feel self-important today since it's DDP numbers day (and my dragon returned from hiatus today!)

The thought of telling my dad Wolfgang Pucks wasn't an available QS this trip was giving me an ulcer! :goodvibes:thumbsup2
