Just booked a Grand Villa for 3rd week of February! It will be our family's first time in a GV, and the first visit to HHI for my niece (19) & nephew (15)...not sure what to expect with the weather. (only been home to HHI once, in late November, and according to CM's at the time, we arrived during an unusual cold spell--it was too chilly for swimming).

Being able to swim will not make or break vacation--planning on dolphin watching cruise, walking beach, etc. Does anyone know if they offer the kayak tours in the cooler weather months?

I had planned on going to WDW, but after talking w/ the "kids"--they didn't want to go. We took them to the Grand Californian last summer, and that's where they wanted to go back to...plane tickets weren't in the budget for this trip, so they chose HHI. Disneyland really spoiled them...I hope that they will enjoy the island!

The first night of Summer 2012 fireworks over Shelter Cove and HHI DVC just ended. When you see and even just hear it there's that moment you feel like you are in Lake Buena Vista.
The fireworks have always been a nice touch and a key component of any Disney vacation.

February is quiet for transient visitors but all activities are still available. This past winter was very mild compared to 2009 & 2010. The pools are heated but even Florida in Feb is too brisk for me to swim.
I'd say you picked a nice time to visit to avoid crowds, humidity and bugs.
The dolphin never leave!

Thanks, Chum! Exactly what I was hoping to hear! Avoiding crowds is always a good thing (in my mind, at least!)

Yes there are complimentary board games.
They used to be in the family centers at both the marina and beach locations.

Sigh, My vacation there is over and we can't stop thinking about going back there. We don't have another trip planned yet and won't be able to use points next year as they are already spoken for. DH actually said we could plan a long weekend trip on cash sometime! At least that is something to look forward to.

Our HHI time is coming up! We'll be stopping at Ft. Pulaski on our way, aS we land in Savannah around 10AM! Maybe we'll go to Uncle Bubbas Oyster Shack too!

I've lots to read here about restaurants and activities. We've had 1 visit, for cash, and that was in October. It must be a lot different now,and the family will be with us this time!

Mosquitos may or may not.

The No-See'ums or Sand Gnats are another problem.

They tend to come out when it is cool, 65-75 degrees. Much warmer and they flee.

Get a bottle of Skin-So-Soft and a spray bottle. Pour equal portions of water and SoS in the spray bottle and use it like Mosquito repellant. Standard protection around here. I keep a bottle in the car.

Just got back from our first trip to HHI! We had a wonderful week. I posted a brief synopsis of our trip over on the trip reports board. Great resort!!! :thumbsup2

We'll be back 7/14-20. Can't wait!

Does anyone have a recent activities list?

More waitlist success! 2 weeks out and my Sunday night (1 bedroom) came through.
I had 2 nights waitlisted, and did each one separately. (the Monday night came through weeks ago) I don't think my waitlist would have come through had I kept them on 1 waitlist.

That's awesome!!!

I just booked a girls only trip for 9/19- 9/23... I could only get a two bedroom but I am waitlisted for a 1 bedroom
