There is no shuttle or ferry from the resort to Savannah. You will need to drive. There are a lot more 2 BR's than 1 BR's or Studios that is why there is a shortage of them.

Is there perhaps a bus, shuttle or something to Charleston, SC?

One of the other questions she had was about Savannah and I found that answer already - thanks WolfpackFan!

PS: Love all the pictures - may have to discuss with DH and check out HHI!

Thanks in advance!

For all of you who just returned. Do you remember what time the beach house and pool closed? I heard reports that both close at 5pm.

With 4 kids under 10 we spent A LOT of time at the pool so I can help with this one... :)

The Big Dipper pool was open at 7 or 8 am (not sure the exact time as we never made it that early), but the slide opens at 10am. The slide during the summer is open 10a-6p. Then the pool closes at 10pm. This includes the hot tub.

Then as Wolfpackfan stated the beachhouse is 8a-8p. :) I can double check my activities guide when I get home tonight on the Resorts actual pool opening, but I believe it was 7 or 8a.

HTH,
Mark

Hi - we're tentatively planning for the first part of March 2013 and I'm wondering about the pool. Will it be heated at that time of year? I'm sure the ocean would be cold, but it would be nice to swim in the pool.

Thanks for all the info so far! It really is so helpful! Hope everyone going this summer has a great time!

Thanks for the details on the pool hours. What consists of summer hours? We are looking at May, I wonder if May would be included or would the hours in May be different? Those hours you listed would great for us since our kids are younger but if everything shuts down earlier in May than that would be a downer for us.

We're stopping in next Friday and Sat. 22-24 on the way home from WDW. I can't WAIT!! We go every year for New Year's Eve (Dec. 27-Jan.1 this year) but this will be our first summer stay.

Even more special b/c one of my very first (and very favorite.shhh...) Kindergarten students is working in Rec as a Cm this summer. Can't wait to see her in action!

Okay experts...My brother is at Ft Stewart(currently deployed) and I'm thinking of using my DVC at HHI for my hotel for the Welcome Home ceremony and spending a few day with him. The only thing is that I'll be booking last minute(aka Army Time). It'll probably be within the first week or so of December. How hard is a 1 bedroom to book last minute? What kind of fun stuff can I plan to do while we stay there?

Hi everyone! So sorry I never got around to my trip report, work was crazy when I got back, Memorial Day weekend, etc....but we had a fantastic time! I really do love it there, and the kids are already asking when we can go back. DD5 had so much fun with all the kids at the pool, I still haven't figured out how everyone knew her name but everywhere we went kids were saying hi to her.

So here is a basic rundown of our trip:

We stayed in room in building 24, first floor (2411?) It was right next to the playground which the kids loved. DH could be at the playground with them and I could watch from the deck while drinking my wine :rotfl2:. We were right on the marsh, had a few birds visit us which was fun. The view was nice, although a few trees blocked the view. I would definitely ask to stay there again though, DD counted and it was 37 steps to the pool.

The kids loved the pool more than the beach. Couldn't get DD off the water slide. The May hours were 8 am to 10 pm, with the waterslide being open from 10 am to 5 pm, which is when the lifeguards were on duty.

We also went over the Beach House a few days, but only ended up on the beach for one morning. The weather wasn't perfect, but we were able to swim every day. We were there when the first Tropical Storm hit, although most of the rain happened overnight and Sunday morning. We had a relaxing morning and then headed down to Habour Town, did a little alligator hunting (took pictures from the side of the road), and had a late lunch at the Salty Dog. Sun came out at 3 and we were at the pool for 3 or 4 hours.

We were there for my birthday and was given a birthday pin and a card upon arrival, and we went to the Old Oyster Factory for my birthday dinner. Yum! I love that place. They also have a Gluten Free menu.

We didn't do any of the real touristy stuff this time around, the kids were more than happy to spend the day at the pool and beach, so we saved some money. We did go to Fort Sumter when we were in Charleston and that was a nice boat ride and educational for us, and the kids thought the cannons were cool.

We also ate at San Miguel's in Shelter Cove, Parrot Head for lunch, and the Crazy Crab at Jarvis Creek. The Crazy Crab had a great view, and we were told there had been a dolphin putting on a show earlier in the afternoon. Food was good and service was super fast (but it was also pretty empty, it was a Tuesday night).

Feel free to ask questions, I'll try to post some photos from home...

Can't wait to go back!

First week in December? Even though there aren't many 1 BRs, you should be OK. There are very few people at HHI resort that time of year. Fewer lines at resturaunts, I say!

Does any one know what type of coffee filters the coffee pots use? We are staying in a 2 bedroom at the end of the month, need to start planing what we are going to bring.

I know that we've always bought those prepackaged Maxwell House filters and coffee at Piggly-Wiggly down the street. Those things are so commonly bought there that there was a big display at the end of an aisle.

Going back to coffee filters, the coffee machines just use the regular size Mr. Coffee filters. That's what I took last week and they worked fine.

coffee filters are regular basket style. i too use the maxwell house already in the filters for convenience. that is the only time i use them though.

Flipflop mom, which one, i really liked Carlin and Tiana. they were great during the campfire and other activities. I really didn't get to see many of the other girls there the week i was there. The day we left, it looked like they had a new crew coming in and going through orientation.

Carlin's my GIRL!!! She's an absolute sweetheart, and has been since she was 4! My first year of teaching, kindergarten no less, at the ripe age of 21, she kept me sane! Passing on the compliment, I am so proud! :goodvibes Her younger sister is GREAT, too!

Her family has been going to HHI themselves for YEARS, they are good friends of ours and actually the ones that got us hooked on DVC and encouraged us to visit HHI!

We have arrive and currently eating dinner at Parrot Cove while waiting for Shannon Tanner.

If anyone has any questions let me know :-)

Checked out this morning from one of our best (year #8) trips to HHI DVC. I will write a trip report but want to stress to everyone that if you are driving south on I-75 between Lexington, KY, and Knoxville, TN, please take the detour they tell you to take. We took it last week and it was great. Today driving north we saw the 12 mile parking lot that was before the rock slide....what a way to ruin your day and start out your vacation.

Here are the links to my HHI pictures from last week.

as I was looking at your pictures I just realized we were your next door neighbors for the week! We were in 1312, when I looked at your view from your porch I thought I was looking at one of my own pictures... it is a small world after all.... hope you enjoyed your HHI vacation as much as we did!

Yeah Carlin was great. Her and Hunter ran the campfire on our last night and I have lots of video of that to record the memories!! What a great time... Wish it was just a bit closer, but the drive wasn't hateful... :)

Laurabearz, just checked out your twitter feed from my desk at work (shhh) love the pictures... We had such a great time!!!
