2012 Beach and Yacht FAQ ~ March, April and May ~Do Not Post Here-Old Thread

180 days to go! So very excited especially after the day I had yesterday with WDW Reservations.

Booked everything we wanted!!!!

Big River Grille
Chef de France
The Wave (Hoping its the MNSSHP Night)
Coral Reef
Ohana
Kouzzina

Any reports on any of the above restaurants? We've only ate at The Wave but it has been 4 years since we've been at WDW and the kids are a lot older this go around.

Big River Grille..Just your basic fries burgers etc..they have a good beer selection. If i had to eat on the boardwalk and wanted that type of food I would go with ESPN over big river

Love Chef De Frances

The wave is just ok..I do not like the atmosphere its dull, dreary and grey in there no windows etc. I didnt even feel like I was in walt disney world when I ate there it just felt so barren and boring. I wouldnt make a trek there from the beach club to go there..I would only eat there if I staying at the contemporary. I would eat at Kona Cafe instead of the wave before mnsshp or grand floridian cafe..maybe even whispering canyon cafe for the fun with the kids and take the boat over to mk for mnsshp...keep in mind you can get in to the mnsshp at 4pm even though your tickets says 7 since you are paying for the additional price you might as well be in the park

Coral Reef another restaurant where I felt I went more for the atmosphere than the food itself.

Ohana always a great time and I love the food

Kouzzina another restaurant that was just ok imo I love flying fish and blue zoo. in that area.

I've been a bit of a lurker but decided to check in to say I FINALLY took the steps to booking this trip :rotfl:

Now I know a ton of people are more comfortable booking WDW trips themselves here on the Dis, I prefer using a TA because anyone who has ever book a trip with me or seen me make a big purchase knows I become over stressed about planning/paying for big things on my own cause I'm worried I'll book something wrong and ruin the item  (case in point had my IT inclined boyfriend sit next to me while I bought my new laptop to make sure I did everything right... had him check the specs about 5 times before pressing the buy button) For me a TA makes my vacations stress-free

So if all goes as planned I'll have my vaca booked before my 180 ADR window opens :cheer2:

We arrive at BCV on 4/28 :cool1::banana: Looking forward to speaking Teena when we arrive. See you soon Teena.

On another note my first grandchild (a boy - Jake Andrew) was born on 4/6/12. He already has his first personalized earhat.

Congratulations on your grandson!

If you look over at my avatar pic you'll see my youngest with her Mickey ears when she was 10 weeks old. We started her young! This upcoming trip will be the first time she can fully participate and build memories. I'm getting so excited!

I'm going a little crazy.

Many months ago, when I was first considering YC/BC, I swear that I read some posts about the sand at Stormalong Bay being special sand that doesn't stick to you. Apparently I mentionned it in passing to my family. Now they are all talking about the magical sand that won't stick to them.

I've tried the search function, but I can't find the thread I read. Now I'm doubting myself. My family is laughing at me and are threatening (jokingly) to make a fuss if any sand sticks to them.

I think they are placing wagers behind my back. Am I crazy? Does the sand stick? Is it normal sand? :confused3

Sounds like my family will be there around the same time as you! We also have some of the same restaurants on our list! Enjoy!

I don't remember the sand sticking/or not sticking............but it's such a wonderful part of the pool!!!

In fact, we stayed at the sandy bottom area for our entire 2010 visit (our room was at YC and it was close to this area). Then last year we stayed near the "swirling whirlpool like" area, since our rooms were at BC.

My daughter as already asked if we can go back to the Sandy Bottom area this year. It's so relaxing there!!!

We are so looking forward to it! I am really looking forward to telling the kids on the plane where we are really going.

Thanks for all of the restaurant feedback!!!

My girls are 3 and 6. I'm expecting them to live in the sandy area. I'm so relieved that area isn't part of the pool closure. If everything stays on schedule, the pool should re-open before we arrive, but no matter what the sandy part and the kids' area will be available.

I would have like to have stayed at the YC for the full balconies and the proximity to that part of the pook, but others really wanted the BC. It all looks good!

You chose well with BC!!! You will love it. We really enjoyed the YC stay, and would have NO problem staying there if BC weren't available......but BC is our first choice. (In 2010 BC had no standard rooms available, so we went with YC)

The kids LOVE the sandy bottom area. My girls are older, but just seeing all the little ones digging in the sand was priceless. Big smiles all around.

We arrive a week from today!!:yay:

If someone wants to PM me their phone # I can send pictures of the pool update from my phone & then maybe you can post the pictures here??? I do not know how to post pics here from my phone but I could send a text.

Just let me know.

Well my question this morning about things being strange posted twice, and as soon as I hit post I got the things are down for a while message, how ironic! OK, here is my question again:

Thank you all for the laughs and such great information! I have been trying so hard to keep up with this thread, and I am only about 20 pages behind now.

I am also diligently trying to make dining reservations since our trip is only 45 days away and only have a couple so far. One thing I did want to ask the experts here is travel time from Beach Club to MK, and then from MK to Animal Kingdom. We are only staying 4 nights and it is our first trip (and probably last for a long time) so we are spending one full day each at Epcot, MK, and HS. The 2 travel days will be Epcot and HS since they are both so close and the kids have lots of things they want to see at both parks, plus we want some down time at the pool. Since we aren't going to AK and my daughter is a little sad about that, I would love to go to lunch or dinner at Sanaa since she can see the animals from there. I also would like to do it on the magic kingdom day since that is the only day we will be hopping on a bus. I guess my question is, will it take up a lot of our day to do this? I would even do a late lunch there, come back to BC for a bit and then go back to MK if that doesn't sound too crazy. I do have reservations at California Grill but would give them up so my daughter could see the animals.

Sorry this was so long winded! Thanks!

We recently pulled a resort change from POFQ to Beach Club thanks to the awesome summer discount! For those of you with experience, how is the walk from BC to Disney Studios?

Thanks for your help!

Chris

We don't mind it at all! We usually always walk in the morning. I think it takes us about 15 minutes and that's with three kids!

Things are funky with the server thing but hopefully it will be worth it once it is fixed. I have trouble getting on here sometimes!

My post last night was to share my excitement and news with people who helped me and get it! We made it through the resale process this week and we are now owners at OKW! It doesn't change our June trip to BC since we won't be able to book fast enough but it does mean while we are there we are going to be checking out BCV, BWV and BLT (on the first 1/2 of our stay at CR). We are so excited and since most people don't get it, I had to share!

I would guess the bus ride from BC to MK is about 15-20 minutes, not including any time you would wait for a bus.

I haven't taken a bus from MK to the Animal Kingdom Lodge so I cannot say how long that takes. I would guess at least 20 minutes, not counting any time you would wait for a bus. And since I haven't been to AKL before, I can't comment on the quality of animal viewing you would have from public area.

While I understand your daughter's desire to see the animals, I wouldn't want to take the time to travel to AKL and back during a 4 night visit. There is a lot to see in that time at MK, EP & DHS. And with wanting to spend time at the pool as well, your time is already going to be stretched.

If you did decide to go to the Lodge, I would definitely recommend taking a taxi to save on time. You could take one from the BC directly ... they can usually call one up to the valet quickly. If you decide to go from MK, I would suggest walking to the Contemporary & grabbing a taxi from there. The expense would be worth the time gained.

The pool at BC is amazing ... maybe once she see how much she enjoys that, she'll let you know she doesn't want to sacrifice any time there to go to see the animals.

Wishing you a wonderful time!

We took the bus from MK to AKL and I have to say, it was MISERABLE! We were staying at CR so we walked over to MK to get the bus. We got there at shift change and it took us almost 45 minutes to get there for dinner. It was just bad timing for us but if you are just going to see animals it is a lot of travel. The AKL is really cool though!

Thanks! You will have a great time with your youngest. I can't wait for my grandson's first trip with us. You see things so differently when you take young children to WDW. Enjoy your trip.
