Does anyone have the new Ford Explorer yet. We are planning on purchasing one, LOVE the way they look and so much more roomy than previous model years. Anyway says it gets 35 mpg hwy. Anyone have any personal experience. Thanks :thumbsup2

I've got one on order - should come in any day now. The only thing it has in common with the older Explorer is the name. Ford has rebuilt it from the ground up. After looking at and test driving a lot of vehichles, we came this * * close to buying a Toyota Highlander. Nothing wrong with the Highlander, I just like the Explorer a little better. It has a lot of innovative features that I feel the Highlander (and some other vehichles) are lacking.

As for the 35 mpg? I think the mpg for the 6-cylinder is supposed to be around 25 for highway, 23 for city or something like that. There is a new 4-cylinder coming out that is supposed to be more energy effiicient but I don't think it's supposed to get 35 mpg. I could be wrong.

OOPS. I had a brain blip, meant 25 mpg, but between the brain and the fingers I had a little problem.

:teeth: My fingers and brain never do that. :rolleyes1

I'm excited and nervous at the same time about getting the Explorer. I know there have been some glitches from some of the earlier 2011 models. I'm hoping they have all been worked out now. I've just been told that mine has been built and will probably be at the dealership within a couple of weeks.

From what I've been told, there is a shortage of the Explorers - dealers can't keep them in. Our dealership hasn't been able to get one in in over a month. I hope it's worth the wait and $$$.

Well I bought one :lovestruc and I love it so far! I have had a 2003 explorer and this one is SO much nicer. Tons more room, the kids actually gave us a hug and said thanks after we brought it home :rotfl: I can actually put groceries behind the third row. There is a major shortage of explorers. We drove halfway across the country to get this one, but it was exactly what we wanted and we got a Great deal on it. I think you will like it. They gave us a deal on the extended warranty, so we went with that cause I was a little nervous about buying one so early in a new design. Eased my fears a little.

Interesting comments on the interior size. According to Ford's Specs the 2011 Explorer is smaller inside overall.
2010 interior cargo volume is 85.8 feet, the 2011 only has a cargo volume of 80.7 behind the front seat.
There is more cargo room behing the third seat on the 2011 21 cubic feet versus 13.6 on the 2010. But the new Explorer is 4 inches longer.

For us, the draw to the Explorer was it was a body on frame and rear wheel drive, not sure I like the new unibody and front wheel drive. Time will tell.

I just got rid of my old one, I got tired of driving around something so old looking and the horrible gas mileage. I really liked the old one, but it was just time for it to go.

I guess there is no comparison between the old ones and the 2011 because they have been completely redone. That previous post is right, the only thing the old ones and the new ones share is a name.
