Just wanted to say thanks for all the info in this thread! We are staying at the Yacht Club in June, and I'm so excited because it's our first stay at an Epcot area resort. It will also be our first Stars Wars Weekend trip.

I'm a little worried about the Yacht Club being described as more formal / stuffy than the Beach Club. We actually probably ARE a little like the quieter and more sensible relatives that a PP described (or maybe our crazy relatives are just REALLY crazy so we seen sensible by comparison), but we're not exactly the kind of people who would ever belong to a real yacht club. You would still consider it kid-friendly, right? It will be my husband and I with our 2 kids (ages 8 and 6), and I want to make sure that everyone has a good time.

We are so totally NOT real world Yacht Club people either. (My husband gave me my Valentine's gift tonight and it's a Boston Celtics jersey. How many of those do you see women wearing at a Yacht Club? )

I know I haven't stayed there yet either, but I think you'll be just fine and you'll really enjoy yourselves. Take a look at photos (not just here, but anywhere you can find them). It's still Disney and it all looks so fantastic and with Stormalong Bay being part of both resorts, the kids will love it.

I don't think any of us have to worry about it being too hoity toity... Perhaps when the Four Seasons opens but considering the Yacht Club is in the same category and price as the Beach Club I figure they are very similar. If not, we are in trouble because my husband and I plan on drinking on our balcony almost every night haha

I didn't see that your question was answered, but if it was, I apologize. If not, NO there is no charge. At least there wasn't a charge last year when we were there.

Welcome to our crazy and friendly little thread! We like to joke around about the differences between the Yacht Club and the Beach Club, but the only real difference is in decor and the fact that more convention attendees stay at the Yacht club because it is closer to the convention center. They are really like conjoined fraternal twins, one with blond hair and a little airy (Beach Club) and the other a business minded brunette (Yacht Club).

Kids are welcomed at both resorts so no worries there. The Beach Club houses the Cape May Buffet, which is a breakfast character meal. During the day families with children can be spotted exploring the Beach Club Lobby while waiting for their dining reservations to come up. You'll see plenty of kids at the Yacht Club too but they are mostly passing through the lobby to get to the pool or buses or parks.

There are also threads that are popping up on the Dis boards that will give you valuable info about what is happening during Star Wars Weekends. I would definitely check them out as they've proven invaluable to me when planning my visit. Just search "Star Wars Weekends" in the Theme parks and Resorts thread and a couple of different ones will pop up for you to read.

Finally if you have any questions or concerns about the resorts, this is the place to post them. We are a friendly bunch and we will do our best to help you with questions about your visit.

I'm so glad you posted these pics! We will be there for the first weekend of Star Wars and I am not a fan at all of the movie (I've tried, I'm sorry but oh I've tried). Anyhow, originally I was upset because we thought it would be off season with kids in school but then the star wars thing popped up. I'm now realizing that Disney is spreading out their events so that there is no such thing as off season. In any case, my husband has been trying to get our 5 year old into Star Wars and your photos are even more reason to begin getting into it. How cute are Jedi Mickey and Princess Leia Minnie!! Love it

You will love YC. I am much more a YC person than a BC person. My DD has been staying there since she was been 10 and this will be our 4th summer there but are staying BC due to the availability...and I am nervous!!!!! Even DD13 raised an eyebrow when I told her BC CL this year instead of YC CL....same great place just different vibe....

For those with experience there, where's the best place in the resort to ask for a room if I want a full balcony, water view, and able to see the Epcot fireworks at night?

The resort charges for views like what you are thinking of so I would contact your travel agent and see how much the rate is for the room categories you are talking about above. The rates change according to the various weeks of the year. Disney started doing this room view pricing about a year ago.

Also, if you really want to knock your socks off, be sure to read page one of this thread where you will find valuable information and awesome pictures about the Beach Club, The Yacht Club and the Beach Club Villas. You will be amazed at all the wonderful info on page one and reading about it will really get you excited about your upcoming trip.

As for posting a new thread you have to be sure you are in the correct neighborhood of the boards. For instance a new thread about the parks should be posted in the "Theme parks, Attractions and strategies thread". A new thread about the resorts should be posted in the "Resorts" section.
if you go to this page http://www.disboards.com/index.php you will see all the categories for the Dis boards.

Once you pick one, let say "Resorts", if you look on the left hand side of the page you will scroll down the page a bit and see a blue, rectangular button that says new thread. Click on that and you can post a new thread. Please note that you cannot post thread within a thread, and by that I mean starting a new thread in this Beach Club Yacht Club FAQ thread.... because it already is a thread. You can only post "replies" like the one you posted above.

Elsiemoo, best advise I can give you is don't check in on-line but wait until you get there. Ask at the desk. Just remember that with the new room classifications, if you reserve a room with a waterview you aren't guaranteed a lake view but only water. This would include the quiet pool. If you ask for garden view you may get trees to look at. If you are standard view you get a roof top or parkig lot and maybe the high fireworks show from MK at night if you are lucky like Dee. All requests though are just that, requests, not guarantees. And if they don't have the room view you really want when you check in because they are full, ask if you can move to another room that will give you the view you want and paid for in the next day or two. You will find that the people at the reservation desk are really nice and helpful (most of the time, yes we all have bad days too, even those working at the happiest place on the earth).

Be sure to put "full balcony" on your reservation request. If that is something you want you need to ask for it at the BC.

I'm wondering about club level & online check in. From what I've read, we may or may not be greeted at the main entrance & taken up to the fifth floor when we arrive. I'm thinking we might not be since we are flying into Tampa & renting a car. If we aren't greeted, do we just go to the front desk or ask someone?

What are your thoughts about doing online check-in if staying club level?

Soo psyched. I made my first official DVC reservation at our home resort, BCV! I reserved a 2 BR, planning a big family celebration with my brother and sister and their families along with my parents. Even though there's only one grandkid in the picture (for now!), we couldn't be more psyched.

My wife and I honeymooned at the BC last fall, which is the reaon why we bought into BCV. Now I guess I'm suffering from the same affliction that all DVC members have....I want more points!

Wow. turn off the computer yesterday, and wake up to a few New Recruits!!! for those of you who are staying at YC/BC for the first time you WILL LOVE IT!!! As you can see from my signature, we used to jump around place to place.....ever since July 2010 it's been YC/BC all the way.

Don't worry about YC, we stayed there first and loved it. My DD didn't feel out of place at all. Last year we decided to try BC and LOVED it. I would not hesitate at all staying back at YC if BC was not available. Truly I consider it One Resort.

If you enjoy EPCOT as much as we do, you will love the convienent walk there. We have dinner there just about every night.

And as for the pool area.....................It's like a vacation IN a vacation.

Glad you said this! When I made our ADR wish list, I found that I had a lot at Epcot and I was a little nervous about this. I didn't change anything, but I've still been a little nervous about it. I think one of my concerns is that because we have a good number of 2TS also, and we'll use most of those for dinner, that we'll have to be at Epcot for lunch most days. But, since we park hop, maybe we can start the days in Epcot and then hop somewhere else after lunch. That sounds pretty reasonable.

I'm pretty sure you will still be greeted at the door by name even if you drive to the resort. The lobby CMs will know you are there. Don't ask how they know. It's magic. But if you are not greeted, just ask a lobby greeter or one of the CMs at the desk.

I can't really think of an advantage of doing the on-line checkin for club level. Anyone have a differing opinion?
