I decided to comit and sign up for the half marathon but it is sold out. I am so disapointed  Do they ever open more spots

when do they post registration so i know for next time.

i see they still have spaces left fot the marathon plus half marathon so i was hoping that maybey they might open those half marathon spaces if they don`t sell out the marathon and a half.

am i dreaming

Sadly, yes. I'd convinced myself to do the 1/2 marathon this next January. Now I know to watch early for the 2011 sign-up so that I don't miss out on that one also.

I was also REALLY bummed out that the half marathon is closed. I was shocked at how quickly it filled up. I know now to keep an eye on the 2011 registration.

but hey...cheer up...Goofy's Race and a Half was reopened due to the overwhelming popularity of the half marathon.

I was definitely cheered at the thought of running both a half marathon and a full marathon in the span of two days...:scared1:

not so much.

I'm not sure how that is actually supposed to be a consolation to those of us who thought that registering eight months in advance for the half marathon would be more than enough time. Unless people are willing to pay the registration fee for both races and just run the half marathon.

:confused3

oh well. Lesson learned. The Disney marathon events are outrageously popular!!! Perhaps they should make the registration process for running events like ADR's!!! You can't start registering until 3 months before the race!

:cool1:

Don't give up yet on the half-marathon. Dreams is planning on putting together a team for Give Kids the World and will be offering packages. Kathy (safetymom) has been working on it and there have been some polls and threads on the podcast boards. Sorry, I have not figured out the boards enough to link you to it. If you join the team, you will be able to enter the half-marathon even though it is closed to the public. I'm going to try to do it this year too! It will be my first.

I moved this to the Event and Competition board. You will get plenty of advice on this board.

The half marathon sold out in March/April of last year and April 28 of this year. There a couple of possibilities for entering still.

First, charities or travel companies may have guaranteed entry spots that you can try to get. That would require either fundraising, or buying a hotel/travel package trhough a specific tour provider. I think Anthony Travel had some slots last year. Here is a link....

Second, last year Disney added some last minute half marathon spots in late fall--I think November. There were only about 500 added. No guarantee that the same thing will happen.

Hope you find something that works

Dreams Unlimited Travel is working on setting up a group with no fund raising requirement. Safetymom (Kathy) and Mouse Skywalker (Dave) are handling it. I'm sure there will be a post or thread once it is all set.

These packages usually require a 3 night min stay at select WDW resorts. You don't have to raise money but stay in one of 3 resorts. Not bad if you aren't a DVC or like to stay somewhere other than those 3 resorts.

I spoke with both Kathy and Dave on the podcast cruise and they are still working with Disney on the details. The resort choice may be limited but they are going to try and offer at least on in each category (Value, Moderate, and Deluxe) so while you may be limited to the exact choice you should not be limited to the price level.

This is all subject to everything being finalized and I realize if you really want to stay at a certain resort you may not be able but if you want to do the race without having to meet a money raising goal it is at least an option.

Disney usually does allow one resort in the 3 categories. That's where I have seen.

I had the ability to get a group of extra 1/2 and even Goofy entries after they were closed. That's why I know how this works. An issue is that I would have had to pay for a minimum of 10 entries and if I couldn't fill them, I would be out the money.

Thanks so much for the information!! It gives me hope! I want SO MUCH to run in the half marathon! It will also be my first. I hope to see you there!!:goodvibes

Would March work for you? The Princess half marathon is the same course as the Donald half in January and much less crowded.

thanks for al the info. We are currently trying to buy a dvc resale so I wouldn't want to buy a package.

Maybey the princess is an option. I don't have a partner yet anyhow this is women only right?

:scared1:Yikes! I thought we were going to be able to enter with the team even if we were staying DVC. I was waiting to sign up because of that. :confused3

No, men can run, but are not eligible for awards.

They may offer race only, they man not. I would assume that the race entry would require a room purchase. I would wait until everything is finalized though. Kathy told me that dealing with Disney sports and events (I think that is who they are dealing with at least on this one) was just a nightmare and taking longer than it should.

Thanks so much to everyone for all this information and to SafetyMom for all her work! I am watching this thread like a hawk!

are there other threads that would be informative in terms of the 2010 half marathon in January?

:goodvibes
