2008 Meal Plan Cost for our family - I did the math!!

if i can maybe ask a dumb question.

when doing the calculations. what size tip is assumed on a
buffet style restaurant.
I am not a bad tipper, in fact i think generous usually, but
do servers deserve the same tip (say 15-20%) at crystal palace as those at cinderellas castle?
much different service factor there
how bout breakfast buffets? like marypoppins breakfast at floridian.
not much service except bringing a coffee pot to the table right?
yet the bill for my family will be substantial even though it is on the DDP.
is that still 20% tip?
I dont think this has ever come up anywhere else for me.
i dont go to buffet restaurants, but if i did, i dont think there is much of a service to tip right?

dont attack, i am not trying to short change anyone,
just curious what everyone else is thinking on this one.

I calculated 20% tip on the buffets. Now that you bring it up that may be a little much. I wonder if waitstaff is paid more of an hourly wage if they work at a buffet versus a regular table service place?:confused3

I did "google" tips and Miss Manners on the Good Housekeeping site states that you should 10%.

Thanks for you point of view. I guess this changes my calculations making the 2008 meal plan more of a value.

does anyone know if a 20% tip is automatically added to buffets for parties of 6 or more? It does sound like kind of a rip off now that you mention it!

excellent,
glad i could bring something to the table.
i have so much respect for my fellow disney pals
and consider most of the people on this site experts.

by the way, i booked last night for a november room only,
still undecided on the package with disney dining.
may even cancel and do off site.
one of my favorite parts of staying on site was the Dining plan.

it is nice to know, that i am not thinking cheaply with the buffet thing
at least 10% makes more sense to me.

my wife and father inlaw were in the restaurant business and even they were unsure how to tip at a buffet thing like that.

Thanks for doing the breakdown! That was a lot of work for you, and it really helped me in deciding on the DDP.

Someone asked when the DDP restaurants might be updated. According to Bicker...probably mid November. Same situation occurred last year. I'm looking forward to Teppan Edo, and Pepper Market (CSR). Neither are on the list yet, but I'm sure they'll be added to the final DDP list.

You mentioned that you liked being able to show your MYW card, which I guess is the room key, to pay for the meals. You can charge meals to your room, so you don't have to carry around a lot of cash.

You got it. The MYW card when on a package is your room key, your park ticket and your meal plan card.

Thanks for the figuring. I never can quite figure it out. We are going to purchase the DDP for our trip in Dec. I know that it will be used by myself, hubby, dd (14), and ds(13).
