Well it's time to start planning our Florida trip for next year. When we've been in the past we've been lucky enough to have 2 weeks school holidays at Whit - thanks to the junior school holidays in Warrington.

Now our eldest is in High School that's out. So what would be better - or what would definitely be worse?

Easter 2008 or last 2 weeks of summer holidays - which I think will be around 17th August?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Crowd wise the last two weeks in August win by a landslide, weather wise then easter would win for comfort levels. I have been in August and think that while hot it is bearable, and the wait times for rides make it worth it to me:goodvibes

Wow! Those two Whit weeks must've been great! :) I personally prefer late August to Easter as the crowds are less and I quite enjoy the heat/humidity. :thumbsup2

A difficult one and similar to what we have been thinking recently.

The majority of us look for an ideal combination of low crowds and perfect sunny weather (not too hot) - unfortunatley neither of your dates offer you that.

The last 2 years we have been mid August, the crowds historically are fairly light as that is when the US schools (or certainly most of them) go back after the summer break.
Last year was busier, the Disney Dining Plan (daft dining plan), meant whilst the parks were not packed they were certainly busier than they usually are.
This was a pain as you hope to counter the high temperatures with the knowledge that the parks will be quiet(ish).

For us, despite the summer holidays being the natural time to go, bearing in mind my wife is a teacher - we would never go in August again.
Julie and Joshua just didn't handle the excessive heat at all, most days it was 95 degrees and personally whilst I wasn't too bad it was far from comfortable touring the parks.

Sorry Alanda I am not really directly answering your question am I? If you can cope with the high temperatures maybe August would be best, but sometimes your own circumstances can affect your decision of when you go, they certainly do in ours.

Hence we are having a year off this year and going back Easter 2008, yes it will be busier but in theory the weather should be very pleasant, possibly ideal and it is that (in our circumstances) which has made our decision.

Josh is autistic, and whilst perfectly mobile he cannot walk long distances so we take a mini wheelchair with us for use when we tour the parks, the thought of pushing him around in August again would be just too much.

Late August for me - it is hot and humid, but that really does not bother me (just jump in the pool), just love that time of year, and the crowds are thinning by then

Thanks for your help.

We like it hot, sooner hot than crowded anyway, so August it is.

Gives us longer to save up as well.

Or do like we are doing this year and do both, then you know which is best.:cool1:  :cheer2:

We have been at Easter and late August. I'd have to say late August would be quieter, and with regards to temperature.. Easter should be slightly cooler, but we have been there when it was well over 90 degrees at Easter. So for us it would be end of August everytime.
Hope this helps

Easter weather can be unpredictable, in 2005 we flew back on Easter Sunday March 27th.
Most mornings of our holiday it was very much on the cool side, they actually ran out fleeces/coats etc at Universal Studios one morning.

Sorry if i'm slightly off topic, but is there a big difference in crowd levels begining of Aug we'll be there 4th - 19th
Thanks :)

Hi,

we've booked for "easter" 2008 as our school "easter" holidays are not actually round easter in 2008!!!! Our school has adopted the 6 week term - very handy whilst the kids are at the same school.

We have 2 weeks off in April - from the 5th and easter itself is 23 march - so we figure it won't be quite so busy..... But still get the cooler temperatures.

Cheers,

Tessa

Generally speaking Tracey yes there is, as I said earlier a lot of the US schools return from the summer break around the middle of the month so I would say on average the first 2 weeks of August are busier than the last two.
The only thing I would add is the Disney Dining Plan has sort of put a spanner in the works and made it more difficult to predict.
We went late August last year and found the crowds much higher than the previous year.

That is exactly what our schools have done and we are hoping the same thing - that the Easter crowds will have died away and it won't be too busy :)

In our borough we have not adopted the 6 term but "Easter" next year will not be at Easter but two weeks in April because the actual Easter weekend is early at the end of March. Do check your local authority websites. It will also mean that it won't include any Bank holidays when you are counting time off for work.

We have gone for the last two weeks in August this year but this is because my boss would not allow me to take two weeks at Easter and she takes the first two weeks in August. Actually as I don't have a choice it is easy to make a decision!

Good luck and let us know what you decide.
