2008 Disneyland Half - Who's Going?

Hi guys...

We're so excited to be going to run DL! We *HAVE* to make our reservations soon...but we're torn. So locals, DL experts, etc....PLEASE help us....here are our options assuming there are still rooms available:

Disneyland Hotel
Paradise Pier
Candy Cane Inn
Carousel
BW Park Place
Hotel Menage

We'd really  to stay onsight...is it worth the exra $$$? Between DLH and PPH which would you suggest? We will not have a car.

Soooo excited as we are not DL experts...no idea where to eat, stay etc. Just know that the special medal has called to us so we're there! :thumbsup2

Cool Amy & Scott! We'll have to have a WISH meet and greet at the Expo or somewhere in Downtown Disney, or at either park.

Carousel and Candy Cane are walking distance on Harbor Blvd. There are lots of on and off property restaurants on Harbor or Downtown Disney. Mimi's, Millie's, Denny's, Tony Romas, IHOP, McDonalds, etc. Plus all the restaurants that Disney operates. So many choices, so on a diet. LOL :rotfl2:.

I'm reserved at Del Sol Inn. We like cheap and clean, since we're only in the room to shower and sleep. The rest of the time we're at the parks, or running through the parks.

Some people like staying at Disneyland hotel the night before the race, since it's a very short walk to the start and finish line. Where I stay, I'd say it's 3/4 of a mile to get from the hotel, through Downtown Disney, to the start/finish line.

Email or PM me if you have any other questions. Yeah, I agree, it's all for the extra bling!

P.S. We're doing the 5K and the half.

Jeff - Thanks a lot for the info!! Would love to say 'Aloha' to you guys while we are out there :goodvibes:

We're leaning toward the Disneyland Hotel and it's nice to know that it's so close to the start/finish. I'm waiting to see what hotels Anthony Travel is going to offer at a discount and then make a decision from there. We were even contemplating getting an AP and hoping for AP rates.

Hopefully the crowds won't be *that* bad...but with 4-5 days, I think we'll be able to get to everything.

Thanks again!

I'll be there for the 1/2 for the 3rd year in a row! Hopefully we wont see too many people being taken away in ambulances this year due to the heat!

**Santa Clarita resident here....PM me if you're local!

 :scared: :scared1: :crazy2:

I'm ordering cooler weather in advance. Ugh! I don't do well in the heat.

It was rather brutal last year, I saw a few folks taken away, I have a blank spot in my memory. I can not remember anything from after leaving the Stadium Parking lot till just about the 5, when some lady wanted me to stop and get a picture of my manatee tattoo.

So thanks for the cooler weather order.

I hope to post a pic of the extra medal fro doing both WDW adn DL races, it is reported to be available for viewing at the ING Atlanta Expo, and we will be there Friday and will post if they have one for Pics.

Yay! I hope it's a beaut!

Oh, how exciting! I can't wait to see it!!

Oh, and btw, I have a blank spot from last year's race too, but mine hit much earlier in the industrial park. And I vividly remember some poor woman collapsing in the street just as we were headed back into California Adventure. so close, and yet . . . So add me to the list of folks who would be grateful for cooler weather this time!

Hello all...
I just registered for the DL Half. :cool1: :) :yay:
I have an Aunt who lives about 20 min away, so I will most likely be staying with her, but I might get a room for one night (Sat) close by, so no one has to get up extra early and try to drive me to the start and fight traffic. I'm not sure.
I will be traveling by MYSELF!!! I will be flying from the Ft. Lauderdale area, most likely on a nonstop flight (I don't really like to fly) Thursday evening and arrive late Thursday night CA time. I will then leave late Sunday evening so I'll be home Monday morning. I think I am looking at Spirit airlines to do this. If anyone has flown Spirit for long distances, is the "bigger seat" worth it??
Anyone need a roomie Sat. Night??
Oh, well, I am waiting for my money from the economic stimulus package to help pay for the airfare.
--Really the BLING is what is calling to me along with visiting my Aunt Susan--

I hope the weather isn't too hot, but then again I'm down here is South Florida.

Oh cool!! I thought they were gonna keep it under wraps until the day of the race...I'll be there Friday as well and can't wait to check it out!

Hi, DH, oldest DS (14) and myself signed up today to do the half marathon. None of us have ever done any runs as long as this, so it will be a big challenge for all of us. Is it possible to be both motivated and nervous at the same time? :thumbsup2 :scared: The training started today, and the guys are in better shape than I am right now, but this is something I feel I really have to do (mentally). Not sure which hotel we'll be staying at right now. We LOVE the Candy Cane Inn, but we have Hilton points (Hilton Convention Center is nice)...of course this might be the time to try out Grand CA. Just don't know yet... :confused3

Oh, forgot to mention, my younger two DSs will be doing the 5K.

Tracy and Wendy - I've got you added to our ever growing list! :thumbsup2

Tracy - I could have sworn I read somewhere on this thread that someone was looking for a possible roomate for that time but now I can't find it. Of course, I could have just been seeing things that aren't there! :rolleyes1

Wendy - congrats on signing up for your first half. I can't think of a better place to do it - DISNEYLAND! :cool1: Just use that nervous energy for fuel. You'll do fine!

signed up for the 1/2 yesterday...it is my first! I must be insane...

:scared1: :scared: :scared1:

Oh my gosh! I actually just paid for our nonrefundable airline tickets. I guess this means we are REALLY going to California this year!!!! The whole family!!!! For just one ridiculously short 3/4-day weekend (DSon and I will be there 4 days, DH and my DDs will be there for 3). Oh my gosh! I'm almost scared to believe it! It is really going to happen!!!

I'd better go home today and start training!

Glad you are ging to be able to come out here. We look forward to seeing you in 4 1/2 months:banana:

Denny & M'Lisse - gotcha down. :thumbsup2

cryssi - You can do it! There are several folks doing there first evers there. :cool1:

Wendy - you had to go - I already had you down. :rotfl:

This list is really growing! Woohoo!! The DIS WISHers are going to be well represented!

I was just reading through the posts in this thread again and noting the discussions about folks doing the 5k... I'm telling you, when I did the inaugural races a couple of years ago, the 5K at Disneyland was by far my favorite -- and not just because it was shorter! :rotfl2: It spent so much time in the parks that it went by very quickly. There was so much I'd (as an East Coast ressie) never seen before. I was just so excited the entire time. I also have one of my best castle shots from that race -- it even has my oldest brother in it.

Now if it had been 102 or whatever it was last year, I'd probably not have liked it quite as much. :rotfl:

Wendy, that IS an awesome picture!! I never gave the 5K a thought for Jim and I. We arrive Friday, hmmm. I'll have to check it out!
